  • What's up guys in this video I show you 3 useful tips you can do to keep your hands up in a good defensive position! (PLUS I ADD A BONUS TIP)
In boxing you'll see every fighter no matter how great, from the past and present, drop their hands every once in a while. Fundamentally, it is not "CORRECT" to have your hands down however a boxing match can end in any second no matter how fundamentally sound you are. I go over 3 tips to help minimize this mistake.
Tip #1 Use a hand wrap or any small item and place it in between your hand and cheek. The objective here is to not drop the hand wrap. This forces you to keep your hand up. You can shadowbox, hit the bag, hit the mitts, move around and practice keeping that hand up by your face while simultaneously working on the opposite hand.
Tip #2 Tap you cheek with your thumb after or during a combination. Sometimes hearing commands over and over again is not as useful unless you are punished/disciplined for them. You may hear your coach tell you 1000 times to pick your hands up and it may come in one ear and out the other. This tip helps gamify your boxing shifts your focus on to bringing your hand up because you must tap your cheek.
Tip #3 Less for the fighter and more for the coach. Tell your mitt holder to hit you if you drop your hands. Yes, this may sound funny but I promise you it is useful. If you pay for making mistakes, chances are you will make them less. If you don't pay for the mistakes you will never prioritize correcting it. Hit the mitts and if you drop your hands *SHHHHHMACK*
BONUS TIP SPAR! The best way to learn is by paying a price. Drop your hands while sparring and you will get hit (of course, it depends on the level of opposition)
