*AWESOME* - Congrats on a fabulous round!! I’m very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play! 💪💪
The key in this regard is to get to - but not go beyond - our body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists have properly set without any forced or contrived action. This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
We don't need to force ourselves to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting our body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If we execute this swing properly we will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that enables us to then harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".
Thanks so much for sharing your success and keep up the great work!!

I'm a 78 year old senior golfer with an eight handicap. I was lifting weights at the gym and I guess I over did it, I have a rotator cuff injury. I'm trying everything to try and golf this season ,, time is running out for me.
Saguto Golf is my go to You-Tube favourite and I have certainly picked up some of the best advice on golf I've ever had. I'm in too much discomfort with my normal golf swing ( back to target ).
If I want to be out there this season I'm thinking I'm almost going to cut my swing in half. I honestly put no importance on score ,, I just want to be able to play whether it's 69 or 99 on the card.
Thanks so much Tom Saguto ,,, the best of the best on You-Tube golf instruction ,,

By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

Tom, you are the only pro I follow. A shorter backswing is right up my alley. I am left handed at everything except swinging a golf club. I even putt left handed. For me I don't feel the punch with my right arm. I know I could with my left. I concentrate more on my left like I am hitting a racquetball back hand. I wish I played left handed because I feel I would be better. I try swinging left handed but it is strange feeling. Any way, I love your videos. You make lessons fun.

I appreciate your kind words, Andy, and I'm glad to know that my instruction content is resonating with you!
It's an interesting scenario, but you're definitely not alone! Just ask Phil... (from the opposite side, of course)
Short of saying that you need to train your trail hand to hit - which I realize may be difficult - I would recommend you work on maintaining your connections and allowing the lower body to bring you into impact. This Hogan video may help to give you a visual in this regard: ruclips.net/video/iejRWhuB7y8/видео.html. Also, even though this impact video lesson focuses on maintaining the angle between your trail arm and the club shaft, it may help you feel impact in a different way that prevents your dominant lead hand from getting out of control: ruclips.net/video/Fe2kQ44azJ4/видео.html
One of the keys in your situation is to not allow that strong arm - which probably seems to have a mind of its own in anxiously wanting to take over when you're trying to bust one - to jump ahead of the lower body and throw the entire downswing out of sequence, because if it does you're likely taking regular trips to Pull-Slice City. If you can train it instead to trail the lower body to the point where the shaft is parallel to the ground on the way down, then you should be in position to hit hard with the dominant hand as if it were a tennis (or racquetball) backhand shot or throwing a frisbee.
Beyond that, here is an excerpt from a members’ forum post by a student in my online school specific to this very issue: “I found a great tip in the Power Distance section. If you are a natural lefty that plays golf right handed this is a breakthrough! Retract your lead shoulder during the downswing as hard as you retract your right shoulder. You will be amazed the speed you generate! It is also a very natural motion for a lefty...” It’s all there waiting for you for just $10 US/month or $99 US/year. Here's a link if you'd like more info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga.
      Thanks again!

Best comment I have gotten was from my golf pro. I told him I was trying to shorten my backswing. He said a shorter back swing doesn't mean a shorter shoulder turn. Its hard to separate the two since for all my life a full shoulder turn has meant a longer swing. Still kind of tough for me. At address I remind myself "full shoulder turn or even bigger shoulder turn and shorter back swing. Better method to prevent casting as well.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад +2

Our Stack & Tilt setup and swing motion facilitates an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, which then allows for another 45 degrees of effortless tilted shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. Because we take the hands on an inward path in this swing - which activates and harnesses the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum" - we may not get the club to "parallel" as one might to attain in a "shift and lift" type of swing, but the depth we've created will repeatedly generate far more clubhead speed properly delivered from the inside than we could ever hope to consistently create through the contrived independent lifting of our hands and arms.
Have a look at S&T cofounder Mike Bennett's swing here: ruclips.net/video/SLjwU_1Cc7o/видео.html
That's 90 degrees of total turn, but because of the deep hands the shaft doesn't get to parallel. And that swing will produce reliable, powerful, body-friendly results day after day with minimal maintenance!
      Cheers!

I may try this over the winter. My brain though doesn't like the right arm against my side on the backswing. It tells me I'm restricted. My right arm folds in against my body on the downswing though and I hit the ball reasonably well. Being connected does concern me as in am I connected on the downswing. I'm 68 and play off 9.2 but am relying on my short game more and more to cover reduced yardage.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  26 дней назад +1

      Hi Alistair,
It is certainly acceptable to have a few inches of space between the trail elbow and the torso at the top, just like I have in my swing. The key is that the arm has not lost its "tucked" condition and the elbow is definitely not flying away, meaning that it is in perfect position to reconnect in the downswing. "Gluing" it in there is a "feel" that is necessary for many amateurs to achieve this desired action - at least until they have properly ingrained it. If you are already good in this regard, then there's no need for you to try to incorporate it into your swing.
In more general terms, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my RUclips content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results.

Tom, so happy I discovered your channel. Easy changes to implement and see immediate results. Question, can you please speak about your head swivel, position during the backswing? I was taught at setup - old school instruction, maybe something from Jack's video - we're supposed to feel like water is dripping out of R ear. Clearly, around the 2:18-2:20 mark your head moves differently than what I learned. I see your head move that way in the other videos too. Can you please clarify? I'll mess with it on the range today too. Look forward to your comments. If you've already addressed/answered this please share a link. Thank you!

@@SagutoGolf thanks fo responding. Not saying an issue, at all. Sorry if I'm confusing. Just looking for your thoughts. When I allow my head to move/tilt the way you do during the swing, everything seems natural. But when I try the water dripping out of R ear at setup and maintain, it feels awkward. Just watched a bunch of slow mo swings of Rory, Tiger, Jack and their heads all move the same as yours. R ear is higher than L on backswing, reverse on downswing. Maybe I misread the instruction long back and it said dripping out of L ear at setup. Thanks for simplifying the swing. I play off 7, only see my scores getting lower now.

Finally, somebody who makes a lot of sense regarding golf swing instruction. The sad truth is, watching the "professional athletes" play on the PGA tour is absolutely the wrong thing to try to emulate for the average muni golfer.
Simplicity in the golf swing is what most of us need to focus on when we play. Common sense tells us, fewer moving parts mean better results. Train wrecks can only result from overswinging during the backswing.
I'm telling you, after what I observed this weekend on the course, most of us would be better served using a putter off the tee! Golf and uncoordinated, inflexible & unfit people do not make an aesthetically pleasing match to say the least. Geeze, Louise!!!!

But when I practice to increase distance, I find when I follow your advice to punch/hammer with my dominant right arm, that I start suffering hooks as my right hand pronates (and no longer is quiet). Is there a magic spot where you stop the backswing and your shoulder turn the correct amount? Trying to incorporate the tilt, turn, extend as well as this. Just don’t want to screw it up…

      Hi Russ,
When our body reaches its natural limits of tilting, turning, and extending in the backswing our arms must stop with it, otherwise we risk the following:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side
      6) we'll lose our swing center
      7) our low point will be a moving target, meaning consistent inconsistency...
      Cheers!
      Tom

I found that out last evening, too. I simply don't need to have my hands back as far as I think they need to be to hit a solid shot.

Does it work with a driver?

Same swing with every club in your bag, Paul (except the putter, perhaps 😆) Just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.
      Cheers!

Doesn't really look particularly short in the example there, just flatter.

Stop the video at :36 and then 1:53. No short backswing there. Identical.

Not sure what you are looking at but the two back swings aren't even close. Quite trying to tarnish someone's reputation with bogus claims.

Look at the shaft. Clearly different.

@@jareroken9127 Seems to me the shaft is close to horizontal at the top in both so the "short" swing isn't that short. The difference seems to be his "short" swing is flatter......with his "old" swing the arms are near vertical at the top.

That is like a Matt Kutcher swing --- not a fan.
