Promising the moon and delivering a turtle sandbox is much more common now in games media but it was new(er) back then and people got really upset. I had made my first ever built PC to run spore and felt a sting when a lot of what I was sold on wasn't in the game.
This is one of the few games I can say that I beat accidentally. At the galactic stage I conquered a huge swath of the galaxy around me, got bored with it, and decided to just head straight to the center of the galaxy with my unbeatable ship. I was completely caught off guard that getting there was the end of the game.

I didn’t even KNOW there was an ending. I hated playing the galaxy state for some reason, I think it might have been a little challenging for my child self who just could not be bothered lol

Not to mention Tribal and Civilization Stages are a total bitch. Space Age is just a game of marketing and trading resources with another empire. Then once you have Interstellar Drive 5, stock up on a shit ton of energy and health packs, a few colony packs, and start moving to the Galactic Core. (The biggest hurtle is setting up a colony as close to the center as possible, because you WILL die several times. Just keep clicking so you're always in motion until you get to the Galactic Core because you're gonna have a shit ton of heat on your tail until you reach it.) Once you get there, boom, you're pretty much done with the story and can do fuck all until you get bored.

The biggest hurtle was Capital worlds if you don't have shield, but once you take then without destroying the cities, then place down a spice storage module... *Sweats profusely* Just look at all that money. Your own Capital world is garbage, but everyone else can get 80 spice stored if you don't destroy any buildings. Say goodbye to your money problems.
Funnily enough the games beta had a lot more systems apparently and was more in depth but EA basically forced them to remake the game because they were afraid it would be too hard for kids to understand

And you have to take out the first town immediately or else you'll be overwhelmed by 4 tribes wanting to kill you whether you're friendly or not. Honestly, my favorite stage is Civilization, even though it's debatably the hardest one depending on what you start as and what you're going for.
Glitches of the screen due to the recording/screen capture program. It manages to capture the sprites that the game uses during loading, which provokes their appearance to us.
Yeah, ive played spore since like 2009, never seen anything like that, maybe he has an unofficial version (aka anything other then physical or origin) but even then, the worse bugs I usually see is objects floating. The worst thing I ever saw was movement being weird, and trees violently swaying when you approach them, but I updated the game and it fixed it. I've never seen anything like he encountered.
Honestly this was one of my first computer games and I’ve loved it every time I go back to it. Haven’t had the graphic glitches that you’re having in the cell stage either.
I’ve had it on my new computer. I looked it up and I guess it’s a problem with newer graphic cards and that also why when you die in creature stage the game crashes unless you press esc to skip the death cutscene. Not sure why

I've never seen it either, but someone said it happens with recording software and someone else said it happens with certain graphic cards. I've recorded spore and never seen the glitch, but I'm gonna go check the videos to make sure.
I've had Spore for a good 11 years at this point, playing it on and off throughout those years in different hardware, recording my gameplay and uploading it on RUclips. Never encountered this glitch either. The only glitch I remember encountering is BAD_DATA which I remember scaring the shit out of me as a kid playing the game.
Honestly I still enjoy this entire game. I think the space stage was my favorite being able to go from planet to planet cataloguing, and vaporizing entire species. Terraforming planets and watching creatures freak out as massive craters randomly from underneath them lol. Simply put, if you have no life and sink an unhealthy amount of time into this game, it actually gets really fun
My best strategy for dealing with enemy’s in that stage is what i call, the spaceballs strategy. Basically i just suck all of their air destroying all but one of their colonies then destroy the last one.
I have definitely done the "kill the low-tech species and take their planet" strategy... it's especially tempting when you find a T3 planet with one of the rare kinds of spice, and those tribes are the only thing standing between you and the sweet, sweet tea money...
What you should do is monolith them and then take over the planet once they are uplifted, and then take the planet over, which is a high teir homework’s instead of just a T3 world

@@littlemonarch2820 I do a more American approach. I uplift species then use them to fight proxy wars on my behalf. Never wiped out The Grox entirely but I did carve out a few safe corridors.

The screen flash you get when changing colours is because it gets glitchy when you record the game itself. If you do screen capture instead of game capture, it works fine.
I remember I would always go omnivore in cell stage, then use the omnivore ability in the creature stage - summon flock - to make easy friends with Rogue species, which are almost always absurdly op. Id get a full pack of comba-focused rogues, max out my offensive skills, and exterminate everything that isn't an epic.
If you happen to see this a year later.... kill the epics. If you lure them back to your nest they get stuck on the terrain and you can spit ball them to death.... massecure all.... none survive
Actually getting to the center of the galaxy can get easire each time you do it ... Rather than making a quick dash to the centre if you build up a really powerful empire and conquer your way through. Expand your own empire until it encompasses the galactic core. Then any new games you play, you can just go to the centre via the captured systems of your saved game, rather than those still held by the Grox ... A definite step forwards if you're into empire building and playing your empries against each other raher than fighting the grox
But why waste your time on all this? There is a teleport that brings you very close to the center, from where you can almost in a straight line get to the center of the galaxy in a very short time. Without figuring out which way to go, because the star density is high.
This was the first game i ever played and was the only game i had for like a year so i played this game to death. In one of my play-through i conquered the entire galaxy. Every Single System I had no life.
Same here XD. First thing I did was go to the center as soon as possible, then got that staff of life and ran the grox out of the center. then it was war with the rest of the galaxy. Planet busters are fun :) I was worse than the grox.

Spore Creatures is obviously the superior game and has so much replayability. I absolutely did not just forget it existed after blasting through its story in a single afternoon, anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
They need to implement the molecular stage where you just sort of drift around as a single carbon atom in a soup of elements until you bind with enough things to form lipids and nucleic acids.
One of my biggest wishes is a spiritual successor to spore, that actually has some love and care put in, someone could make an amazing game out of its skeleton

I played this game so much growing up and I believe it was an amazing game. I’m sad they didn’t have as much stuff they planned in the alpha or whatever but the game was still extremely fun and I hope there could be an actual sequel to the game for modern standards imagine the scale of the creature stage and the variety in environment but with all the creature creating and stuff. And imagine this game but with a modern graphics (not necessarily realistic but like pleasing) and being able have a water stage. Idk I just feel like this game could really evolve ;) into something even better.

The cell stage was my favorite part. I wish this game had put much much more emphasis on growing and evolving as a cell and animal. I never even bothered being a civilization.

Had so many glitches when I played. Once started in the water and kept being killed by the giant creature you normally get killed by if you go into the water when I would go onto land. Had one issue where my chief in civi stage wouldn't let me guys play music :/ Another time I had an epic creature right on my starting nest that kept spawn killing me. Fun.

Spore was the first game I ever got excited for before release, and I followed it closely and obsessed about it for several years. Was a bit disappointed with the end result, but still a charming and unique game
It prove a great point for mods and other gamer based solutions. Just look at what can be created if you give people the tools. A server, some easy to use tools, freedom. Charge for that, get rich and do little work. Everyone will love you for it and beg to give you more money. People spend so much time working for a buck to survive they want something they can enjoy, doubly so if they can create.
I honestly do think the game was ahead of its time. So many of the features they wanted in the game, just couldn't be in it, due to technological limitations. I'd love to see a Spores remastered with all the extra features.

For anyone curious about the flashy texture glitches, that's just the way the video was recorded. Assuming Spiff is using OBS and records using Game Capture, it'll also capture texture loads in the background, as if Spiff were to use Window Capture, it'll get rid of all that flashy texture loading and only record the window itself.
I remember playing spore so much. One thing I remember getting annoyed with is, as a kid, I used only my laptop with no mouse and since I lacked a scroll wheel I couldn't resize parts and I didn't have the awareness to just ask my mom for a mouse to use.
On my game, I made friends with the Grox, then proceeded to do trade routes with them. A year of trading later, I am the new Grox. So I'd say I won the game.
When making friends with the grox, you simultaneously go to war with literally every other species in the galaxy Yeah, I did that too and had to reset my galaxy because there were no more grox

the visual glitch is actually something that only happens when recording. I once recorded some spore and didnt get the glitch, but when i watched back the footage that exact glitch was there. Weird stuff.
11:51 the proboscis is really the only part i like in the cell stage, not only do i get to be omnivorous but its also super op, Ex: with normal mandibles you cant bite something bigger than your size. But when i used to play i could literally kill anything, and the stun made it even more op
There’s something EXTREMELY wrong with your copy. I should know, I have a pirated version that has had no problems whatsoever in the two years I’ve had it. Edit: I dont remember where i got it but it seems right after i made this comment it started having the common spore problem of crashing right after your creature dies

I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I found that the hands down best weapons in the game at space age were the weather terraforming tools. Is the enemy too big for you to fight or would it be too tedious? Easy, just max out the planet's temperature or pressure. They'll be left with a handful of cities for you to steamroll, then you can terraform the planet back after you're done.

Yeah, he's hating on the game way too much given that back when it came out and years after - hell, even now - it's still a great game. It's a timeless classic that people don't appreciate simply because the ending sucked and they don't like the limitations it has.
The five games in Spore vary wildly in quality and fun. Cell and Tribal are okay, mainly because they're short, Creature is the best of the five, Civilisation did _not_ pull off the RTS and grand strategy mix well, and Space... at least No Man's Sky made itself better in due time.

I've played spore so much. I played it recently and it took me a very short amount of time to get to the space age. It used to take me over a month to get to the civilization stage.
Just going for gameplay optimization makes it a lot faster but a lot people who play spore make interesting creatures so depending how young you were when it took you a month that might be why

The epilepsy moments from the menus are the program writing your custom texture to a frame buffer that's supposed to be hidden or buffered in another context. However on modern machines this gets written to the visible buffer which will blind you.

Imo, it's pretty tedious because in order to get the power that'll most definitely help you in the later stages, you need to complete it.
The cell stage is the second best. Now the tribal stage, nobody would weep for that.

There is a DLC of sorts called Galatic Adventures that makes Space Stage like 20,000x better

I have the special edition of spire called galatic edition is slot better than the regular

It's a buggy, broken game but honestly I adore it with all of my being. The devs basically went "go fucking nuts" and it's super fun.

My best strategy for dealing with enemy’s in that stage is what i call, the spaceballs strategy. Basically i just suck all of their air destroying all but one of their colonies then destroy the last one.

I have definitely done the "kill the low-tech species and take their planet" strategy... it's especially tempting when you find a T3 planet with one of the rare kinds of spice, and those tribes are the only thing standing between you and the sweet, sweet tea money...
What you should do is monolith them and then take over the planet once they are uplifted, and then take the planet over, which is a high teir homework’s instead of just a T3 world

@@littlemonarch2820 I do a more American approach. I uplift species then use them to fight proxy wars on my behalf. Never wiped out The Grox entirely but I did carve out a few safe corridors.

The screen flash you get when changing colours is because it gets glitchy when you record the game itself. If you do screen capture instead of game capture, it works fine.

I remember I would always go omnivore in cell stage, then use the omnivore ability in the creature stage - summon flock - to make easy friends with Rogue species, which are almost always absurdly op.
Id get a full pack of comba-focused rogues, max out my offensive skills, and exterminate everything that isn't an epic.
And then u keep them as pets in the tribal stage :)

Actually getting to the center of the galaxy can get easire each time you do it ...
Rather than making a quick dash to the centre if you build up a really powerful empire and conquer your way through. Expand your own empire until it encompasses the galactic core. Then any new games you play, you can just go to the centre via the captured systems of your saved game, rather than those still held by the Grox ...
A definite step forwards if you're into empire building and playing your empries against each other raher than fighting the grox
But why waste your time on all this?
There is a teleport that brings you very close to the center, from where you can almost in a straight line get to the center of the galaxy in a very short time. Without figuring out which way to go, because the star density is high.

I played this game so much growing up and I believe it was an amazing game. I’m sad they didn’t have as much stuff they planned in the alpha or whatever but the game was still extremely fun and I hope there could be an actual sequel to the game for modern standards imagine the scale of the creature stage and the variety in environment but with all the creature creating and stuff. And imagine this game but with a modern graphics (not necessarily realistic but like pleasing) and being able have a water stage. Idk I just feel like this game could really evolve ;) into something even better.
The series has so much potential for an amazing sequel but I’m pretty sure the company that made the game shut down

Fun fact apparently my husband was famous in the creature forums for creating the method to allow body parts to be detached. He has gotten randomly messaged on reddit from someone recognizing his username before.
The cell stage was my favorite part. I wish this game had put much much more emphasis on growing and evolving as a cell and animal. I never even bothered being a civilization.

Had so many glitches when I played. Once started in the water and kept being killed by the giant creature you normally get killed by if you go into the water when I would go onto land. Had one issue where my chief in civi stage wouldn't let me guys play music :/ Another time I had an epic creature right on my starting nest that kept spawn killing me. Fun.

Spore was the first game I ever got excited for before release, and I followed it closely and obsessed about it for several years. Was a bit disappointed with the end result, but still a charming and unique game
It prove a great point for mods and other gamer based solutions. Just look at what can be created if you give people the tools. A server, some easy to use tools, freedom. Charge for that, get rich and do little work. Everyone will love you for it and beg to give you more money. People spend so much time working for a buck to survive they want something they can enjoy, doubly so if they can create.

For anyone curious about the flashy texture glitches, that's just the way the video was recorded.
Assuming Spiff is using OBS and records using Game Capture, it'll also capture texture loads in the background, as if Spiff were to use Window Capture, it'll get rid of all that flashy texture loading and only record the window itself.

the visual glitch is actually something that only happens when recording. I once recorded some spore and didnt get the glitch, but when i watched back the footage that exact glitch was there. Weird stuff.

I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I found that the hands down best weapons in the game at space age were the weather terraforming tools. Is the enemy too big for you to fight or would it be too tedious? Easy, just max out the planet's temperature or pressure. They'll be left with a handful of cities for you to steamroll, then you can terraform the planet back after you're done.
God I loved playing Spore. I don't think I ever finished a full go through though.

Yeah, he's hating on the game way too much given that back when it came out and years after - hell, even now - it's still a great game. It's a timeless classic that people don't appreciate simply because the ending sucked and they don't like the limitations it has.

The five games in Spore vary wildly in quality and fun. Cell and Tribal are okay, mainly because they're short, Creature is the best of the five, Civilisation did _not_ pull off the RTS and grand strategy mix well, and Space... at least No Man's Sky made itself better in due time.

I've played spore so much. I played it recently and it took me a very short amount of time to get to the space age. It used to take me over a month to get to the civilization stage.
Just going for gameplay optimization makes it a lot faster but a lot people who play spore make interesting creatures so depending how young you were when it took you a month that might be why

The epilepsy moments from the menus are the program writing your custom texture to a frame buffer that's supposed to be hidden or buffered in another context. However on modern machines this gets written to the visible buffer which will blind you.
Smart idea to handle loading custom textures but no longer works.

Spore Creatures on the DS has got to be one of the most broken games of my childhood. The sound effects would randomly stop working, the camera would get stuck pointing fully down during a dance, just so many issues. But I loved it
