Good! Those of us that like to drive something unique will LOVE it and be very happy that not everyone else likes it. It shouldn't even be compared to a truck, because it isn't one.
@@Yul-Uhlu He usually gets things right although he was wrong about this car, and honestly when he said that i probably wouldn't sell I got skeptical about that.
I'm definitely planning on getting this. It actually fits just the set of features I need, for I live in the city and I do a good amount of camping and outdoor activities. The towing capacity is a plus for bringing a trailer. The built in cooler is perfect for tailgating sports games! With hot summers and cold winters where I live the extra temp controls are a big plus.
now on you are consumer of child labor. PEDo NEW YORK, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor Co said it is in talks with the U.S. Department of Labor to resolve concerns about child workers in its U.S. supply chain, and the company is taking corrective actions after a Reuters investigation found children as young as 12 working in hazard-laden Alabama factories linked to the automotive giant.
I just realized something: these small Pick-ups like the Santa Cruz and the Maverick could very well come to Europe too. They're just as large and capable as Europeans need a truck to be when they don't want a straight up BOF Pick-up truck. They're smaller than the small Pick-up trucks we have here in Europe (the Toyota Hilux, the Isuzu D-Max, the Nissan Navara and the Ford Ranger, all of which are about 5.3m or 208.67in. in length) and they are more versatile than the cars on which they're based (the Tucson and the Escape/Kuga, that is - mind you, the Tucson and the Kuga come to Europe too) in the sense that the cargo room is larger and it can accept larger cargo or it can accept more forms of cargo! They're brilliant! Please Hyundai and Ford, bring these cars in Europe, they're the perfect inbetweeners to normal cars, crossovers and BOF Pick-ups!
I love the headlights because they are nice and low. As SUVs and Crossovers get bigger and bigger, their lights are higher and higher. On top of that, more companies are making their lights brighter and it can be pretty blinding.
@@lolsmol I dont like this trend. Main headlights always were at the top and at the bottom there were always fog lights or something. Now you cant recognise which headlights are the main ones.
Honestly, the design overhaul Hyundai is coming out with is really friggin cool. I thing it's futuristic without being extra. Very cool and distinctive.
This honestly might be the perfect next car for me. While the Maverick is definitely more appealing from a financial perspective, nearly everything the Santa Cruz has is what I want; the standard lane keep features are personally the biggest draw. Hopefully these are reliable enough to be worthy used cars in the near future
I'm in the same boat a year later. I like the Maverick on paper but can't bring myself to buy a ford as every single person I know with a ford has problems
@@jackbits6397 Same here. I just saw the Maverick today finally where I live, and ngl, it caught my attention. Then I realized Ford makes it; in Mexico no less. Patiently waiting for the rumored Toyota Stout.
@@cowboyga1 I don't think so. It's a bit weird, and probably won't age as gracefully as a simpler design would, but it's distintictive and futuristic. But I'm happy someone is doing something different, at least.
I just picked my Santa Cruz Saturday night! Love this vehicle! I ordered it two months ago and every dealership I went to said they can't keep them in. The minute they come in, they are sold out. Love, love, love this vehicle! Fun to drive, lots of gadgets to play with and great mileage!

Doug you missed an important feature. The tailgate can be raised about 6 in and locked. The same height as the squares over the rear tires. This allows you to slide a full sheet of plywood into the bed.
Hyundai was brilliant by saying isn’t a truck. Now everyone says is a truck. When Honda said their ridgeline was a truck everyone step forward and said isn’t a truck. Well played Hyundai.
@@felmin809 you say that, but there are PLENTY of people that have crossovers for daily transport, but would appreciate a bed to throw something big in that wouldn't fit inside the cargo area of a small SUV

I currently drive a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport, which I’ll love but cannot wait to get a Santa Cruz. Love the open bed concept that you don’t have to worry about folding the rear seat down to put a bike in the back nor do you have to worry about getting the interior dirty. Business in the front, party in the back .❤️❤️❤️
I appreciate Hyundai’s boldness and willingness to experiment, a quality most modern automakers sorely lack. But I feel like the Santa Cruz is a textbook “jack-of-all-trades, master of none” and won’t convince many buyers. Some of Doug’s words might seem harsh, but I for one agree and it got a laugh out of me.
I do agree, most truck owners would be totally fine with a truck this size. I would be happy with this. I would only need it to commute and maybe pick up larger items a couple times a year. I like the styling a lot, but you know most truck owners are going to bash it and tell anyone who drives this to get a real truck because that’s what real “men” or some women do. The gas mileage could be a bit better. If it got 30 mpg on the high way, I think it would be just fine. My wife has a 2020 Tucson and it gets about the same mpg as this.
I dig it. Looks like a cool idea for people who hit the the camping spots or head to the lake with kayaks and bicycles, or have jetskis or a small boat. This will get garbage or yard waste to the dump and pick up stuff like your new washer from Lowes. The in-be beer cooler is cool, so this would be a neat beach vehicle with the grill in the back, and you don't have to worry about the hatch plastic or carpet getting damaged, just wash it out when you're done. Then again, I'd LOVE to have a Subaru Baha. Perhaps I'm eclectic.
I agree it is cool looking, a good idea in theory if you prioritize it’s tiny size above everything else. But most if not all kayaks are going to stick out 4+ feet out the back of this truck-let. Better off tying it to the roof. You can only fit one bike with the cover installed. It’s just too small to be practical. Too expensive also, once you consider the base engine option sucks (according to every review out there) you basically have to spend Ridgeline money. So it really is just all about the size and coolness factor
@@dropusertable For me I want to carry my kayaks on the roof. That’s why I’m excited about the “smaller” trucks coming to market. What’s the issue with the base engine in these? I personally don’t want a turbo on a 4 banger.
I'm fine if it sells poorly. It will just make mine unique is a sea of sames. I think it looks great and an open bed vs closed hatch is a lifestyle decision, neither is better than the other for everyone.
@@embeaston The issue with the base engine is that auto journalists are stupid, spoiled, and cry when 0-60 is over 7 seconds. I have a Santa Fe with the base engine. It's not fast, but it's just fine. I've never had problems getting up to speed because I'm not a moron and can plan ahead when needed.
Man I remember Hyundai was like a car brand people bought because they couldn't afford a Toyota, Mazda or Ford but now they're making some big moves. Amazing!
Squished Honda (Hyundai) still is. I was in the market for a car recently and test drove one after seeing/hearing so many people say they are good. They are not, unless you are comparing against Corolla's, Civics, Sentras etc....You get on the highway and as soon as you go over 65mph they feel really unstable, a little crosswind and you really feel it on the steering wheel and need to compensate. I think they've caught up with the low end of other car brands. Their Genesis brand on the other hand is legitimately nice, not as nice as the cars (Merc S class and the like) many people including Doug compare them to. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" holds true. Hyundai's are cheap (as in price) for a reason.
That in-bed trunk is the BEST feature of My Father's Ridgeline. I wish my Tacoma, or other pick ups had this! You would NEVER need a bed tool box! My pops has all his tools and more in that in-bed trunk, and still has his FULL OPEN BED!
You might be able to add one if you got the skill (or the money) for a custom one. Depends on what kind of space you got under the bed between the frame
Yeahh, my father in law had one Ridgeline once and it was awsome , with all that cargo spaces on the bed and the interior , i wish i could afford one of those...
Yes I can confirm that this was designed in California. I know the guy who designed the Santa Cruz logo on the tailgate. He's actually pretty stoked Hyundai chose his art. He was also integral to getting this into production.
Doug's height varies but he's on average 6'3" so of course he can reach into the bed with no problem! He can reach into the bed of a full size truck with no problem as well lol.
I’m 65 and had suvs my whole life and they were handy .. but at this age and still mountain bike furniture restorer the Santa Cruz gives me a nice modern feel of a car plus a rugged usefulness of a truck and storage in the back .. it’s amazing and fun and it’s going to be a home run .. like I heard my father say to me many of times growing up and did t want to hear …you will find out when you get older Doug lol
I like how they didn’t just blindly copy Ford or vice versa. As much as it pains me to say it, it is always nice seeing foreign car makers really “explore” the American car market rather than fill it with mass production cars.
@@omaralkayal7598 No kidding. Back in the 80s a friend of mine bought a brand new Hyundai, one of the very first ones sold in the US. What a complete POS that car was.
Well obviously two cars displayed within a few months of each other aren't going to be copies of each other. It takes at least a year to get to the point of a prototype like this and usually much longer
There's a company in Oregon that converts old Z cars, MR2s, etc. to electric power. I want to send them a Subaru Brat. (or as Doug calls it, a BDRATT.) Or, possibly, a Lada Niva.
I like how Doug always blames the backseat being “too small” or saying “There’s not a lot of room back here” when in reality he’s just too tall to fit inside the majority of backseats in cars like you can’t just move one of the front seats up further when you need more room

Too bad it’s Korean and a copy and pasted Aztec without any of the uniqueness. I’ll wait for Ford or Gm to come out with something that can role over a speed bump without breaking the emissions systems like most Hyundai’s
The little easter eggs over the wheel wells are mounts for GoPros. I really like it. I live in the city and this is perfect. You can use the cooler for tailgating but if want to go hunting or fishing, you keep small game or fishes in there on ice.
Kind of like when he reviewed the Fiat and said the cup holder was too far back and out of reach but there is one right by the gear shift and can even be seen in the video.
A LOT of people have big pickup trucks for no reason at all. Not this one cuz I think it’s ugly, but smaller sized trucks are way more suited to what people actually need when they want a truck
That is what fits most people. A truck would be useful for just about everyone, but not that many people have a 40' boat or a big ass horse trailer that requires a diesel F350 to tow. Most owners of those big ass trucks don't actually need it, they just own it because they wouldn't feel like a man without it. These smaller trucks are a practical option
I got my 2023 SE AWD in black for 29k in October 2022. Love it. Turns heads on the road and the bed does what you could expect/need as a suburban homeowner. I can park it in a crowded parking lot easily. Cabin front seats are really nice for a Hyundai, a truck, and for a lower trim.
I just bought one 3 hours ago. I got the limited trim in white. This car is so sick I can’t even explain why lol. The more I look at it, the more I fall in love with it.
I think this might be a good choice for handymen in more dense city environments where it's hard to get into some of the undersized garages. My handymen use converted minivan for this reason, flat-rainproof load floor for the work day, then seats back in for hauling kids on the weekend. For this to be more practical/economical for handymen it should be some sort of EV/erEV/PHEV with a smaller backseat to make room for a longer bed, maybe some more flat surfaces for paperwork.
Has anything ever scored a 10 in a Doug score? Reviewing a Veyron: "It's quick but not as quick as a top fuel dragster" For acceleration it gets a 4/10
While I'm personally more interested in the Maverick, I really like the Santa Cruz! With modern trucks being so huge, I disagree with Doug about these being non-viable. The more little trucks, the better! (especially cheap ones. I'm broke!)
I’m loving it. I was selected to do a 3 week trial with it and just got it delivered on Monday. I’m in Southern California and it’s the perfect vehicle for such a place. I plan on taking it out to Yosemite this weekend. Also the model I have comes equipped with GoPro mounts on those tabs that you pointed out above the wheel wells. I will attach my GoPro to it and share the footage on my channel. Also it has a bed extender which allows you to add another foot or so to the cargo area with the tailgate down.
All I want to know is how the actual turbo engine feels when wound up??? Doug mentioned absolutely nothing about it. I was so disappointed he didn’t get on the throttle at all. Isn’t that what turbo engines are for???
I think these will likely flop after 5-10 years and then eventually will be very desirable like the Subaru Baja’s are today. I hope this truck succeeds!
This kind os SUVish Truck has been selling like hot cakes for the past 5 years here in Brazil and only now other manufacturers are waking up. Huuuge market. They make a lot of sense really for people that live in urban areas and need some cargo space to move slightly bigger things that would not fit in a regular SUV trunk. Check the "Fiat Toro" which was the one responsible for making it popular and boosting FCA's sales like crazy. They sell more than Civics and Corollas combined.
Design is awesome until you reach the front grill. It is absolutely hideous! Yeah the lights blending in is neat but the overall style is gross. The concept was lit!
I’m buying this one instead of the Maverick because of the styling, I don’t need a little tiny F-150 I want something that looks good it’s fun AND it’s practical, the Maverick is just blhaaaagh. I’m sure a lot of people gonna like it but I want this exact thing!!
Yeah I had to laugh at that "why do you need a step when you can just reach in"? Says the guy who is 6'4" and uses that as a metric to show how small back seats are. For us 5'8" those steps will come in handy.
I was looking to see if someone'd commented something along those lines, even he seemed only just tall enough to reach the floor of the bed without the step. Plus it's not like a step is a very expensive addition for someone that doesn't actually use it.
I came here for more information on this . I always had a big pickup in my working years and now I’m winding down in my 60s and don’t need that construction truck ( game over ) I want a easy driving so called pickup so I can put the trash in the back for Saturday morning dump runs and things I don’t want inside a vehicle. I think this will work for my life now in a nice way ,
It’s just a smaller ridgline. Hope it sells well, most people who buy 1/2 ton trucks don’t use em to their full potential and a truck like this would fit their needs just fine.
I’d buy this just for the suv luxury interior and the quirky bed with storage cubbies for my bag since I travel out of state often and can hide extra clothes down there instead on the back seat like a regular pick up truck. It’s small enough to navigate around town. The size means the mpg would be great and I can haul small stuff while doing home renovations etc instead of a giant pick up truck that I’ll never use since I’m not in construction. This is perfect for my lifestyle! I don’t know why Doug thinks it won’t sell. Of course the limited will be a tough sell for the price of $40k but anything in the high $20’s and low $30’s is a quick sell. I want one.
@@dragospahontu have you even seen the santa cruz or tucson in person? the korean brands have stepped up their game immensely over the past few years and everything about their new interiors is comparable to their competitors, i’d even say it’s a step above when you actually experience them but that’s personal preference.

Just bought one of these on the 15th and it's awesome. Got the SEL model because the base model (SE) doesn't have a lot of the safety features I want and the Limited model is too expensive. I think it's cool but like a lot of these trucks, the bed is too small to really be useful for "a truck guy" but if you won't miss having a trunk, it's really a solid vehicle that sits up high but rides and manuevers like a car. Doug apparently doesn't know any "commuting dads who wish they could get a truck but if we're being honest with ourselves we really only need a bed like twice a year and the mpg on my sonata is so good I don't know if I wanna give it up" kind of guys. I'd probably get the Maverick Lariat over this, due to price and the longer bed. Although my Sonata Limited is pretty sick.
That'll dry up once the first few "commuting dads" get this and get clowned by their friends. They only want a truck to show off. This isn't a truck you can show off.
********* I'll be 1000% honest! The Ridgeline, Maverick, Santa Cruz etc are the only trucks that really appeal to me! Not everyone wants a massive truck, on big tires, with terrible mpg. I live in a suburb, and I just recently picked up a Honda Ridgeline. For me??? It's the perfect truck! It hauls the family, AWD for snow, reliable, and I can carry projects, trash, help friends move etc. I really like the new Maverick, and I plan on looking more into them next year! (My local lot can't keep them in stock)
Still can't believe Fnord suits f!cked up (again) and designed the Mav around an entirely new powertrain instead of just putting a proven FWD package from one of the commuter boxes in the front for the base model, and added electric drive at the rear for an AWD hybrid. If they had, they'd have halved the development cycle and I'd probably be driving one today instead of my 2 y.o. Colorado which was my best available option when looking for a compact truck a couple years ago. No, wait: who am I kidding? It's a Ford, so the ergonomics are still almost certainly for our alien squid overlords, instead of us mere humans... 🙄
Currently trying to convince my wife that we should buy one of these instead of a regular crossover. She actually seems on board with the idea so far! I think for what we want, this is almost a perfect vehicle. We won't have to worry about getting the bed dirty since it's plastic instead of the carpet a cargo area in a crossover would have, so hauling soil and plants, dirty yard sale stuff, a d whatever other junk we tend to buy isn't going to do any harm, plus we can fit some larger stuff back there as long as we tie it down. Pretty cool that these truck-cars are coming back in style. I really wanted to buy a Subaru Baja but didn't really want to buy a vehicle that old.
honestly i would wait till the ford Maverick is out. Even if you dont want the ford it will probably make Hyundai lower the price on this to better compete with ford.
I guess that makes sense. I was wondering why you'd need a bed that small but if you haul mostly outdoor stuff.. I just put an old wool army blanket down in the back of my CMAX.
It’s “weird” and Doug and also says it’ll fail before it ever gets revised. Hyundai revises as quick as two years so I don’t think they’ll fail like a traditional cycled vehicle. This one is going to make it. 💯
Also Doug keeps referring to the truck market and then mentioned the Baja. The Baja is the market. Light sand, easy trails. Folks who camp, bike, surf, or gardening. Not folks who haul stuff like pipes.
@@el_covfefe He actually did mention that exact point though. He said it would be exactly like the Baja which is why it'll fail. The Baja was a great vehicle but the world wasn't looking for a ute.
Exactly and Hyundai thought to themselves that their is a market for these things you want a bit of storage to carry stuff but you don’t want a full sized behemoth setting in your driveway like a RAM or F-150
I think the top end should have a sticker price about $30K. If they had given it a 4 foot wide bed, and made the bed extend into the cabin with rear seats folded down, it would sell massively more.

Maybe the bumper steps are for people who aren't "6-3, 6-4." Is anyone else tired of "Easter eggs"? Someone comes out with a feature, and it is cool. Someone copies it quickly, and it is still interesting. This instance feels like your 70 year-old mom/grandma saying, "I know, right?"
"Easter eggs" actually have a purpose, by stamping parts with logos or hidden designs one can tell at a glance if the part is oem or a non-oem replacement. For example if I got a cheaper, non-oem, replacement for my windshield on my Jeep people would know because the little jeep in the corner is gone.
I actually think this niche vehicle is something actually needed. With so many medium or compact crossovers available worldwide that aren't any more practical in reality to their hatchback counterparts, This fills a void left by many funky vehicles of the past. Fair play Hyundai, I like it 👍🏻
But we call the Toyota Hilux/Tacoma and Ford Ranger, utes in Australia and as Doug said they are real "trucks". And if the general public wants tall hatchbacks, then that is what they will deliver. Maybe one day everyone will want sedans or estates again...
This is perfect for the bumpy on/off-roads in the Philippines, where you sometimes need to transport an additional 5 people in the truck bed, or have to go pickup a broken down scooter somewhere.
I work for Hyundai. I like it. It looks good. It's somewhat useful. It drives like a car though. I'm a truck guy so it ain't for me. But a lot of people are not truck people. They want an easy drive but they also like the option of a truck bed for weekend gardening projects. It's not the vehicle for me. I won't buy it. But it is nice and I see it doing very well. Hell, on my lot we got three in on Tuesday and they were all gone by Wednesday with a huge markup.
I agree. I bought one because I wanted the extra versatility of a small bed, but didn't want it to drive like a truck. I have the limited and it has incredible tech, very comfortable seats, plenty of room, and it just drives so smooth. Highway mileage is actually very good. Even with the turbo engine, with a light foot you can get 30+mpg's straight highway. Oh and this thing is QUICK, even more so from a roll. It's really fun to drive, but quiet and luxurious inside.
I would buy one if I had the money. I'm single, live in city and work an office job, and currently drive a Civic. But I need to transport stuff once in a while, that doesn't fit into the Civic, and I wish I had some kind of small truck but without the whole truck thing. Kind of modern iteration of the El Camino.
Honestly if your space needs are like less than 1x per month, I think it makes sense to rent a U-Haul truck. You don't want all the accumulated maintainance/cost of a larger vehicle if you can avoid
"Limited" edition... This might be the one time in history when the auto industry can actually claim that there will be limited production of any given model.
I bought one of these a couple months ago and love it. It gets compliments everywhere I go. I have to disagree that it is a niche vehicle.. I think the timing is just right for it.
I personally see this as Hyundai’s attempt to tip their toes into trying to revive the subcompact segment of pickup trucks here in the US. I think it’s less similar to the Ford Maverick than it is to similar-classed pickups and city trucks you see in other international markets like the Ram 700 and Mitsubishi L200/Triton. I like it, and I think Hyundai did a pretty good job with the design, quality, and features they included. But I just don’t think it’ll be a success considering unlike in other international markets, there isn’t as much of a need for small, subcompact trucks here with our roads being larger and wider, and was as Americans more often tow and haul larger-capacity loads with our trucks.

Bro aren't you in LC rn?
@Life as we know it and in brazil too. But in my opinion, this is way better. And way more capable too

Pick up trucks have an image problem in Europe. However smart pick-ups like this could start turning minds.
I love the headlights because they are nice and low. As SUVs and Crossovers get bigger and bigger, their lights are higher and higher. On top of that, more companies are making their lights brighter and it can be pretty blinding.

Business in the front, party in the back .❤️❤️❤️
Same ! Would trade my Santa Fe sport for the Santa cruz any day !

That 80% of current truck owners actually just need a crossover or a normal car.

I love this vehicle. Reserved mine the very first time I saw it announced. The small size was its #1 selling point for me.
How long did you have to wait to get yours?
The Baja is awesome. My favorite vehicle ever

I really was only looking for a vehicle that didn't hurt my back getting in and out of and for the price, this was perfect.
I bet your wife's boyfriend drives a real truck
Burn.
How do you like it now?
@@Pickle_Riiiick, still love it. Holding up well. No issues.
@@3rddegreeburns494 that’s awesome! Debating on this or a Ford Maverick. Still not sure which I want but I’m leaning towards the Cruz because it has better technology features
More pickup manufacturers should adopt the lower headlight design. Nothing more annoying that pickup headlight in your rear view mirror at night.
I drive a lifted truck and even I am blinded by truck headlights.
Clearly what Hyundai should do is deliver “Made in Alabama” to red states and “Designed in California” to blue states.
@James Smith Man you got the whole crew laughin
Libs don't buy anything that is called or looks, like a truck. Design origin plays no part for them. Red meat folks are gonna look at the measly 660lbs bed capacity and not even deem it a truck.
@@billwhiteathome2080 eh, I see plenty of Honda Ridgelines in Alabama. People overestimate the cultural signifiers w/r/t ideological affiliation. I don't think of myself as conservative minded but the first thing I'm going after getting I get a bit of property out in the county is go buy a mid-tier trim F150 or Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I'm going to need something that can get out on the acreage. It's just a matter of practicality not me trying to send out some kind of vibe to those who see it.
@James Smith LOL 😂 we are a corporatist state yet they call us Commiefornia oh the irony
21/26 MPG is terrible for what this is, honestly.
@@silentspring222 *laughs in 8 mpg*
@@silentspring222 better than my focus rs
*Laughs and also cries a little in Skoda Rapid 1.4 TDI with 66kw and 67 MPG*
In terms of looks and appearance, I love this over the Maverick.
Maverick is much bigger and better fuel efficiency and better looking.
and cheaper.
I beg to differ. I think the Maverick looks better.
@@tocreatee3585 the Maverick looks like it was developed and designed in a third world country for transporting chickens and illegal arms.
It's EXACTLY what I'd expect from a Hyundai truck. Weird, fun, unique, and a lil ugly but in a cool kinda way. I like it.
Why not get a Honda Ridgeline?
honestly i would wait till the ford Maverick is out. Even if you dont want the ford it will probably make Hyundai lower the price on this to better compete with ford.
@@Brian-vd4mg because it starts at a Santa Cruz top trip price
@@lamoona4269 100% this is smart. Competition either increases value, or decreases prices.
@@xfiringsquadx he mentioned the Baja in reference to what the car resembles but he didn't say that's why it will fail
@@el_covfefe 23:53 Did you even watch the video? 🤦♂️
Exactly and Hyundai thought to themselves that their is a market for these things you want a bit of storage to carry stuff but you don’t want a full sized behemoth setting in your driveway like a RAM or F-150
This is a sign that Subaru needs to release a new Baja
halo car
Yooo boffy watches Doug?
because it kinda looks like a warthog?
Hey bro sup?
LMAOO it does look like it
I think the top end should have a sticker price about $30K. If they had given it a 4 foot wide bed, and made the bed extend into the cabin with rear seats folded down, it would sell massively more.
I like the way u explain
I agree
Like a 2011 and older ford ranger. This isn't a pickup. It's an SUV with a shopping cart for a bed.
Hyundai exec: Well we can't beat the maverick in price but at least we have everything they offer & more
Hyundai worker: Sir, they have orange interior
Hyundai Exec: Put orange in the interior without spending any more money
Hyundai worker: @13:32
Actually they took it from Tucson N Line :-)
This is the coolest looking truck out there.
I really wonder what agenda the haters are pushing.
This isn't the coolest truck, the coolest is definitely the Mercedes G63 6X6
@@jc_so_riyl yet this is selling way more hmmmm

Is anyone else tired of "Easter eggs"? Someone comes out with a feature, and it is cool. Someone copies it quickly, and it is still interesting. This instance feels like your 70 year-old mom/grandma saying, "I know, right?"
"Easter eggs" actually have a purpose, by stamping parts with logos or hidden designs one can tell at a glance if the part is oem or a non-oem replacement. For example if I got a cheaper, non-oem, replacement for my windshield on my Jeep people would know because the little jeep in the corner is gone.
I think Hyundai nailed this! The styling is cool and they didn’t overdo it on the inside. I’d buy one if I were in the market
I actually think this niche vehicle is something actually needed. With so many medium or compact crossovers available worldwide that aren't any more practical in reality to their hatchback counterparts, This fills a void left by many funky vehicles of the past. Fair play Hyundai, I like it 👍🏻
Actually?
Agreed. Also, the stench of Doug's bias towards the Ford just reeks.
The Baja and Ridgeline had a baby
I wonder if he realizes not everyone is a lanky noodle like him who can reach right into the bed without using the side steps lol.
The first 7.5 minutes of this video are Doug just kicking his feet around like an excited kid.
I think this is oddly the perfect daily. A great year-round car for New England. Not an only car but it definitely could be.
Well Doug, I really think you've missed the boat on this one. Everyone else, including myself, seem to love it. Just sayin'.
Apple puts “Designed in California” on their packaging as well.
Because they cant afford to make it in America...
This is a UTE and Hyundai should just call it one. The SUV craze is just silly, most of the new CUVs are just hatchbacks with taller bodies.
But we call the Toyota Hilux/Tacoma and Ford Ranger, utes in Australia and as Doug said they are real "trucks". And if the general public wants tall hatchbacks, then that is what they will deliver. Maybe one day everyone will want sedans or estates again...
I 100%agree with you.
To be honest, I really like this, and could seeing myself driving this.
It's sorta something i could have seen Subaru making if i used my imagination 10+ years ago.
Right… what you need is a small CUV that drives like a car, but has space to fit all the shit once in a while. Like a CRV or something.
civic hatchback or honda crv
I can see this thing selling well in Mexico you see compact pickups everywhere
@@drogerflav6350 Mexico already has a superior option for most people: Volkswagen Saviero. It's cheap (roughly $13K USD), it's basic, easy to fix and very economical with a 1.6L and a 5-speed. Heck, it's so basic that Air Conditioning wasn't even standard equipment prior to model year 2022.
