Royal Author Slams The Coronation: “It’s A PR Exercise For The Royal Family At Vast Public Expense”

- Royal author Norman Baker has questioned why the UK is hosting a coronation for King Charles, as the final preparations for the event get underway.
Speaking to TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer, Norman says the coronation “is twice as expensive as Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in equivalent money”.
“We’ve got other European monarchies, none of them have coronations anymore. This is a PR exercise for the royal family at vast public expense!”

@@run2cat4run The Queen pays tax. In 1992, The Queen volunteered to pay income tax and capital gains tax, and since 1993 her personal income has been taxable as for any other taxpayer. The Queen has always been subject to Value Added Tax and pays local rates on a voluntary basis.

The Coronation itself doesn't cost much, its the massive security operation, mostly overtime pay for the police. The Army and the Bishops aren't paid extra from their usual duties.

I'm an American and I am very much looking forward to watching the coronation. This guy is full of beans. The money made from spending tourists and locals in various business will outweigh the cost to taxpayers.
I wish people would stop banging on about the cost of the coronation - have you seen the crowds, the tourists ? They bring in so much money to the economy - more than the coronation cost. It doesn't matter what other countries do - we in the UK do this.

I feel sorry for people in the Royal family, there must be so much pressure on your shoulders at all times. Being constantly watched, psychoanalysed, scrutinised and videoed must not be fun. The monarchy works well when the monarch is a more naturally practical and stoic person like the late Queen was or Prince William is. However it appears extremely stressful, especially if you are a more sensitive or introverted type of person like Charles is. Yes, they have immense privilege and wealth but im sure they hardly get to enjoy it most of the time. It seems like a rat race within a goldfish bowl
