This is a first for me to see this type of mower. As someone commented it’s almost like a 1990’s version of a zero turn radius mower. Very interesting.
Being from the U.S. and being a big fan of vintage mowers, it is a thrill to see vintage British brands because some are so different than what you would have seen here in the 60s 70s and 80s. Just a few brands that are now defunct or have gone modern are...Wizard....White's.....Western Auto... Sears....Snapper....Simplicity and a dozen other brands that have awesome vintage machinery. Thanks for your vids and keep'em coming.
I love this mower. Older machines have an aura that is completely missing in newer models. My 1954 Yazoo 60" mower was the first to be able to turn around its own front tyre axis with a single steering rear wheel and a transaxle with two wheels in front. It is a real beast and I love to use it once a week in our English-style park.
Discovered your channel on a RUclips recommendation. I ended up subscribing after watching 1 video. Since then, I've watched about 10 of your videos and enjoyed each one of them this one Stood out due to the uniqueness of the mower. I really enjoy your channel. Thank you for making videos. 🙂
This has made me really want to buy a Westwood lawnmower now and only last Tuesday I had a great opportunity when one came up in my local auction. It only sold for £30 and was working with grass box and key. A lovely mower indeed.
Amazing always enjoy your videos and personally I enjoy working on Westwood mowers as well it's always nice to see a good quality mower and to work on them is an experience all on its own
Way ahead of its time. A zero turn a long time before the now trend of having a zero turn. In Oz now despite the cost most new mowers seem to be of the zero turn variety. I must admit I was still living in the UK back in the 90's and never saw one of those. Given the price I expect they resided in the stock broker belt away from the common proletariats such as myself. I enjoy your presentations which have that refined English style to them not found elsewhere. Most others I watch are American. Enjoyable but just different in presentation. Class little mower. I wouldn't mind owning one of them. Chance of finding one here somewhere between zero and nil.
It looks like a very good design I'm just surprised that someone hasn't copied this. Also there's no better feeling from taking something that's not working and be able to fix it with your own two hands. That's why I like watching a lot of different repair videos on different things. There's not much that I cannot fix myself I like learning new techniques from people. It's been said that if you put four people in a room with a pencil you will have four different ways to sharpen the same pencil. This is what I have learned about repairs. Everyone has their unique way of doing things. I don't work on things professionally or for money. Most lawn equipment I can normally fix for no money and if I have to buy parts I only charge for what the parts cost me. I definitely enjoyed this video. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
I have never seen anything quite like the Westwood Clipper here in the states. I hope Mustie1 sees this video. He really enjoys the unique machines from all around the world. Keep up the great videos.
My Dad worked at a lawnmower dealership back in the 80s/90s and sold one of these to a gentleman with a fairly hilly garden. I clearly remember going with Dad one evening to the guy’s house as he had complained the mower couldn’t get traction and just sat there spinning it’s wheels so he returned it for a conventional ride-on mower. These are really only for flat or near flat gardens. Great job on this one by the way, loving your vids!
Someone I know has bought a piece of land and they had a couple of old mowers on. A clipper was one of them and it has been untouched for 15 years can't wait to start restoring it
Here in the states we had a mower called a swisher ride king that had a similar design. It had one wheel in the front that turned 360 degree instead of 2 and was quite smaller
What a fantastic little machine. You really had fun riding that didn't you?, can't blame you, it looks like fun. Was genuinely shocked the carb stripped down that easily, was expecting that main nozzle to be stuck fast.
That is a pretty clever design…I had a 2 wheel drive Motorcycle that had a “miter Box” to change the direction of the power to the front wheel, it also has a Albion 3 speed gear box…leaked fluid everywhere.
First, glad to see that you uploaded a video; I was wondering just yesterday where you've been. Second, it seems to have an issue re: its ability to pick up the clippings; it left a lot behind. Anyway, well done; glad to see you back.
They look like a funny little machine that takes time to get use to. I'll just stuck with my t series and diesel version Westwood's just a small collection of about 8 Westwood's .
Wow~ I have never seen one of those.I have had some Westwoods and I have a Honda powered Laser and a very very old Wheel horse.Exce;;ent film thoroughly enjoy your stuff .Thank you
What a cool little machine. Never seen one. That's $3000USD. (today) WOW! I remember selling 30 inch cut Murray rear engine riders about that time for about $750USD (a little over $1500 today). BUT>>> They didn't have that neat FWD/ZT set-up either!
If anyone wants to watch an in depth video series on how Carbs work, Destin from Smarter Every Day has a really in depth video series! He even builds a clear one so you can see how the choke and throttle work. Thoroughly recommend it.
Great job Daggerwin. I have never seen this type of Westwood ride on mower with zero turn capabilities, really interesting.Have you considered doing a Hayter ride on mower before?
Great video. They are a good mower I have one they are just a little hard to get used to the steering. I also have a wheelhorse R26 that needs restored but can't find any info on them and I can't get it to reverse so it is just parked up in my collection.
Definitely a unique machine, and only for 100GBP at that! One of the few things where electrification would make sense, as well. Plenty of room for a battery up front and wheels can be replaced with hub motors when those drive gears get too worn out. Being small and even more quiet it would fit its original purpose rather well.
very fortunate that you found a clean 'survivor' (unmolested) machine ..maybe in the future we can expect to see you treat the carbonator bits to a better treatment , such as a replating/electroplating/anodizing treatment ..I'd even try cold bluing that carb bowl to resist rust .. not sure how gasoline would make a difference but it'd be interesting to find out .. Epic Thumbs Up
There's one forsale just up the road from me. It looks like it's been stored as its beautiful. I however went for an old Stiga. Now I can't find any info or diagrams on the stiga 4 speed gearbox since I need to make a whole new selector.
Over here in America we haven't ever had any mower with such a design. Be cool if we did though, what an interesting setup. I don't think I've ever seen a riding mower with the front wheels being the drive wheels!
This mower is awesome, reminds me of the early US "swisher zero turn: mower. And those bevel gears seem to be the weak point in a lot of early equipment, they last long enough so 30 years later when we get em, they're just about shot
I went back a bit to check out some older videos and this was a fun and unique video thanks 😊

watch out for the Bevel Gear Boxes (bgb) on the simplicitys

I’ve never seen this 1990s British mower like this before EVER!
Thank you very much this video. This is the first time seeing the clipper. What an awesome mower. 😀👍🇨🇦

what a great design , thanks for showing
That is quite a neat mower. Has a nice cut quality. Seems very maneuverable and lots of fun.
Very interesting machine can't say I've ever seen one but now I have hope to see more of it on the channel
That's a neat looking mower. I love seeing the differences in mowers from England versus mowers made in the US. 😁👍
Really love the narrated videos!
Amazing always enjoy your videos and personally I enjoy working on Westwood mowers as well it's always nice to see a good quality mower and to work on them is an experience all on its own
I have a westwood t1200 that my grandad restored some time ago, was parked for 7 years needed a new carb and started right up, great machines
I really enjoyed u restoring the Westwood mower it is my first time seeing it
Looks a nice machine to operate. Thanks for showing us 👍
Great video! Great machine, the forerunner of the modern zero turn mower.
First time seeing that mower - amazing little machine
That thing is cool I've never seen anything like that. When I first saw it I thought the roller drove it. Was impressed how it actually is driven!
Looks like it did a fine job of cutting, and the fun factor only adds to it!

That’s super cool. Wish we had something similar across the big pond in America!
Great video of a fantastic ole machine!

I love these videos daggerwin
That's a cool little mower I like it. great video
Yes a new episode keep it up
Great job sir, thank you for sharing! So cool to see.
that looks like a great zero turn mower, nice roller on the back too for stripes
Great video daggerwin!
Wow, what a kooky design. It looks mostly like a rear-engine rider, but with the wild card of that steering system. Pretty cool!
I have never seen anything quite like the Westwood Clipper here in the states. I hope Mustie1 sees this video. He really enjoys the unique machines from all around the world. Keep up the great videos.

Awesome job restoration carburetors

Looks like it'd be a nice mower thank you for the video
Top quality work as always! Another great video 👍
That is a cool mower for sure.
Here in the states we had a mower called a swisher ride king that had a similar design. It had one wheel in the front that turned 360 degree instead of 2 and was quite smaller
I love this channel. Why did I not find it sooner!
Europe definitely built a lot of interesting mowers, I wish we would have got some of them here in North America.
Not going to lie … you going around in circles was hilarious 😆
Hello from the US. Awesome mower with so many unique features.. a30 year old ZTR! Never seen the likes of it, cool content! Liked & sub'd.
Thank you for your video.
Being state side it's definitely the first time I've seen this machine. Nice bit of kit if you ask me.
What a fantastic little machine. You really had fun riding that didn't you?, can't blame you, it looks like fun.
Was genuinely shocked the carb stripped down that easily, was expecting that main nozzle to be stuck fast.
So interesting video! Thanks :)
...good one, nice job, stay safe and have a great week..
Where does the fascination of the Brits with lawnmowers come from? I swear, everytime i see a lawnmower restoration video, it's a Brit :D
Yeah we love mowing lol
love your vids! keep up the work!
Wow what a great find there. I'd love to have one myself but for now I'll stick with my old Rover Ranger.
That is a pretty clever design…I had a 2 wheel drive Motorcycle that had a “miter Box” to change the direction of the power to the front wheel, it also has a Albion 3 speed gear box…leaked fluid everywhere.
Sounds like a nightmare
That’s so cool, it’s a two wheeled big mow
You know you owe it to yourself and the all of us to rototill that yard and put in a million-dollar lawn!!! you've got all the equipment now 😃
Amazing how you fix them mowers thinking I’ve watched all off them
I want one now, lovely content as always!
Omg ive never seen or heard of one but i want one
I like this mower very much. The steering wheel may belong to a racing Morris Mini.
Thanks and cheers from Germany
Thats a cool design 😀
Not bad 4th time and she’s running like a dream
That thing is awesome and hilarious.
Unique riding mower!
I'm overtaken by the strange urge to try and find one of these mowers for myself 🤣😁
First, glad to see that you uploaded a video; I was wondering just yesterday where you've been.

Beautiful mower. Will you consider doing a restoration on it. Won’t need too much compared to some you’ve done.
It's like an AMC Gremlin, it's so odd it's cool 😂
Swear I was subscribed, not sure what happened, but glad to be back. Cool mower man
That’s an awesome machine
What a Kool machine.

5:02 my taid had that same problem. What a pain, hahaha
Well done ☺️
If Benny Hill was mowing, it would look like that. Of course while being chased around in circles 🏃💃⛹🚴💃🤸🏇🤷
Hey it gets the job done and with some style and flash!
Great video!😀
Good work
very unique mower
Never seen anything remotely like this. A truly bizarre little mower. I like it though.

Epic Thumbs Up
Good machine 😀
Have you ever considered doing a custom job with off the wall paint, big wheels etc? Thought it might be fun.
That said I still enjoy the videos.
I've never seen one of those before! Cool machine.
Ever seen a Mid-engine Honda HTR 3009 Riding Mower?
That's interesting, those are similar in nature to portal axles. Seems awfully complex for a lawn mower.
Very unusual design. No transmission or reverse gear. Extremely tight turning radius.
Dagger great video
There's one forsale just up the road from me. It looks like it's been stored as its beautiful. I however went for an old Stiga. Now I can't find any info or diagrams on the stiga 4 speed gearbox since I need to make a whole new selector.
Any idea of what price the mower is near you is ?
@@butchergonemad6520 £250 but I'm in Aberdeenshire.
Thanks for reply Ian. Interested if its good shape and running . I have to go to Glasgow next week so on the road . What town or village ?
Weird unit, but , very cool. Would be great for small yards
Over here in America we haven't ever had any mower with such a design. Be cool if we did though, what an interesting setup. I don't think I've ever seen a riding mower with the front wheels being the drive wheels!
Check out the Swisher Ride King
@@kylebryant7979 yup
Reminds me of my Swisher Big Mow except this has 2 wheels in the front.
Amazing
This mower is awesome, reminds me of the early US "swisher zero turn: mower. And those bevel gears seem to be the weak point in a lot of early equipment, they last long enough so 30 years later when we get em, they're just about shot
It’s like the rostamash mower with the castor steering
So cool👍👍👍
