Hi everyone, just to update you on this project: The parts have now arrived for the engine so I will be starting work on it again soon. Hopefully a video within a month
I fix mowers and I use parts tree and parts zilla I don't know if you have that there but if you do it really helps me there are diagrams of assemblies and subassemblies and parts they don't make anymore most of the time they have them I needed a thrust washer for a (don't remember mower) for the trans no one but parts tree had it in stock
Your restorations are often very stressful because of the poor condition with the machines. But somehow the videos sooth my stress. Thank you and keep up all your good work!
Great video. Can't wait to see part 2. Reminds me of some of the mowers that some people throw out and say they will never run again. 30 minutes after i get them I have them cleaned up and running again
That carb was (as you said) in surprisingly good shape! Nice work on the valves! A little gas in the spark plug hole and I’m sure she would show some life! I know you hate to take on the work to do the deck rebuild, but it would make for interesting viewing.
Arh Victa, the little Aussie battler now owned by Briggs and Stratton. Victa is probably the only high volume lawn mower manufacturer that ever manufactured aircraft.
Those mower were the best! Unlike newer belt drive mowers they don’t takeoff when your going down a hill The variable speed is nice just tend to seize up. I use a newer version with 5 speed trans with a Kawasaki 12.5
At the end of the video it dawned on me the voice sounded REALLY famailiar. Took me a minute or two, and I thought it sounded almost exactly like daggerwin. I then checked the channel to see who the recommended channels were, and my theory was proven correct :)
Some things that may help you... Use a bench grinder with a wire wheel for removing rust / cleaning up parts. It's much faster than a manual wire brush. You just hold the part and move it around against the wire wheel. Use a 1/4" impact driver for removing bolts / screws. It breaks the rusty bolts free easier and turns them out much, much faster than a socket wrench. If a new carburetor is needed, 99% of the time you can find a cheap Chinese knock-off on Amazon for 1/3 the price of the OEM and they work just fine.
I’m curious, when you see something as bad as this do you think: "Shall I bother?" Or "Oh boy! A challenge!"? Or both? I do understand why some people like the silent videos, but I learn so much when you explain what you are doing and why.
So, this was one of Exmarks very first commercial walk behinds, they offered 32, 36 and 48 I think. The motor doesn’t look super original. Very good find though! Fixed deck machines are cool! Good luck on the restoration!
Rust is very powerful! Don’t be fooled. I’ve recently got an old 1969 international 444 tractor and I was trying to replace the steering wheel but I just can’t get it off😂
I don’t know what condition your tractor is in but a couple months ago the ball joint inside the steering column on my 95 Chevy Beretta popped out of the joint that’s on the turn signal lever so I had to take the steering wheel off along with a bunch of other components in order to get back there and I kid you not I did everything to try and get my steering wheel off I hit it I kicked it I yanked on it from outside of the car with the parking brake on I even tried to put a bar through the middle of the steering wheel and tried to push on it to get the steering wheel to pop off and I literally just had to sit there and bang on it for like two hours before it finally popped off and just the other day I sat down in the passenger seat to try and take the center consul out and I noticed there’s actually a crack in the base of the steering wheel near where the metal is on the inside for it to bolt to the steering shaft from me trying to get it off and it’s not like my car has sat years with the doors open or it’s not like it was a flood car or anything all things considered the car relatively has no rust on the actual body
Used to walk behind one of those in my first job. Belt drive was fine if it was dry but if it was raining they were terrible. Squealed and slipped like crazy. Much preferred the hydro. Also three times the money mind you.
Hey brother. I just want to put my two cents in. WD-40 is super out-dated. Their is far better products for penetrating rust and helping lubricate. Love the videos. Randomly found this channel and it definitely makes me smile. God bless 🇺🇸
I love watching restoration, but it purely drags when they talked the entire, the videos where the guys from Indonesia are perfect it's been a long and you just simply get to sit back and relax..
Greetings from across the pond bro. Great video! I love restorations that involve more engine restore than painting the machine! I think a 36 inch walk behind is well worth the effort! I so look forward to the rest of this restore!!180 pounds for a carb is insane, but I think you can save that one, it looked better in the bowl than I thought it would. The good news is it isn't one of these new shitty plastic ones. Looking forward to next great video! Shared on FB for my other American friends to get introduced to your great videos!
In The US.. we have a few different brands of "gel" rust remover..Naval Jelly is the brand I am most familiar with. It paints on like jam and just let it sit for 20 mins. or so and rinse with water and wipe dry. It may damage the seal around the crankshaft... so a new seal would be advised..Try Amazon for part kits. Not sure about shipping to the UK. but a carb rebuild or even a new carb would be money well spent for a reliable engine. Thinking you could get new crank bearings.. seals.. carb kit/new carb..total gasket set ..air filter etc. go ahead and do a total rebuild and you know it will last for some time. Should get all those parts for $150.00/200.00 usd. on Amazon.
Victa, awesome. I live in the states, never seen a Victa before, Australia brand. Would like to get my hands on a Victa 21" 2 stroke mower. Is this mower made by Exmark? Exmark is owned by Toro today, Emark factory is still in Beatrice Nebraska, not far from where I live. Emark just made this for Victa and is branded Victa from the looks of it.
Although the mower looks bad, if the rear wheels can be freed from the axle surely it can be saved as the badly rusted pulleys look like they are flat belt industrial type (try Fenner they specialise in belts & pulleys) used on lots of different applications even if you can't get genuine (it's worth trying turf or garden machinery specialists as many have old broken machines they've taken in part-ex for new equipment they'll sell spares from), also it doesn't look like it had much use as the underside of the deck looks in really good condition and the machines only real problem was it was "parked up" in damp and exposed conditions.
Hi everyone, just to update you on this project: The parts have now arrived for the engine so I will be starting work on it again soon. Hopefully a video within a month
Where do the parts come from that it takes that long to get?
I fix mowers and I use parts tree and parts zilla I don't know if you have that there but if you do it really helps me there are diagrams of assemblies and subassemblies and parts they don't make anymore most of the time they have them
I needed a thrust washer for a (don't remember mower) for the trans no one but parts tree had it in stock
I figured if they sell the piece of equipment there they would sell parts for it there also
You should have used wd40
Cant wait!!!!
I know some people don't like the voice overs, but I love them. i find it more engaging and easier to understand you're thinking.
Your restorations are often very stressful because of the poor condition with the machines. But somehow the videos sooth my stress. Thank you and keep up all your good work!
So satisfying seeing seeing something old and rusty shine again.
I needed about 2 more hours of this nice one buddy 😍🇬🇧
Your narration adds so much to your content, glad to hear it on Machinery Restorer also!!! At least 10x better than subtitles. What a delight! 👏
I,m glad you are the type of person to fix that classic mower great job there mate 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow what a mess that was in! Looking great already! Can't wait for the next episode.
Hi
@@matthewbrown2109 Hello
@@IRTGaming. did yo like the video what daggerwin made today
You Just May Be The Best Small Engine Mechanic I've Ever Seen !
Awesome to see you work on this. I used to mow commercially with it!
Looking forward to the rest of this restore
A good restorer that talks in his video! Subscribed
I enjoy all your videos and channels. This is truly your calling and you are doing an awesome job.
Very well done, like the narration....
Yes a I hope you keep this series running
You do such a great job. Need more of these videos
Great video. Can't wait to see part 2. Reminds me of some of the mowers that some people throw out and say they will never run again. 30 minutes after i get them I have them cleaned up and running again
Love the video, now I want to pick up one of these to restore.

This mower will be awesome to see finished!!!!!
Love the commentary as you go along. Makes a wannabe fixer like me understand what is going on.
Love the live commentary instead of the voiceover, great vid👍
Hi daggerwin what a rusty lawn mower
I can never understand why people leave equipment like this standing outside, such a shame , glad your bringing it back to life
Gotta say I would have left this one go. You Rock man!
Excellent stuff love these vids
Such green grass. My grass is slowly starting to get back to the state it was before we had 3 years of drought.
These videos are so satisfying even though I don’t know much about anything that’s being restored :)
Thank you for narrating.
Yay a machinery restorer video
Thanks daggerwin
Really satisfying. I do small tools at GAP hire. And I love doing 4 stroke engines. My favourite
That carb was (as you said) in surprisingly good shape! Nice work on the valves! A little gas in the spark plug hole and I’m sure she would show some life!
I know you hate to take on the work to do the deck rebuild, but it would make for interesting viewing.
love these videos!
Can’t wait tell the next part of this mower 😎. Maybe I’ll be able to fix my 3 push mowers lol when ur done small engines are not my cup of coffee
I like you talking over the captions
Arh Victa, the little Aussie battler now owned by Briggs and Stratton. Victa is probably the only high volume lawn mower manufacturer that ever manufactured aircraft.
Oh the looks of a classic Victa I love this brand have many in my collection never seen on in Australia where Victa started
Great video. Just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to the next one
very good video. very explanatory.
Good job 👍
Well worth a sub,great videos
Those mower were the best! Unlike newer belt drive mowers they don’t takeoff when your going down a hill The variable speed is nice just tend to seize up. I use a newer version with 5 speed trans with a Kawasaki 12.5
This more is proving that stuff needs built better and older isn't always better
Right as I clicked this I was like I feel like this is daggerwin and sure as shit I was right😂
Can't wait for part 2, and 3 and maybe 4? Good luck
At the end of the video it dawned on me the voice sounded REALLY famailiar. Took me a minute or two, and I thought it sounded almost exactly like daggerwin. I then checked the channel to see who the recommended channels were, and my theory was proven correct :)
Surprised how well all the fasteners came out, was expecting ping ping sheared bolts studs etc, well done, regards, David.
At first glance: "Well, that doesn't look THAT bad", then I saw that first pulley assembly and went "Oh...."
reigninoel it really was bad that mower was
From my part, it was the removal of the cowl. Oh , that coil and the white powdering substance. That's quite the challenge.
It's never a good sign when the pulleys disintegrate at a touch.
good o know i am not the only one insane enough to take these jobs on
i was just thinking only yesterday that we would be due a vid on this channel :p
you are doing a great job mate keep going more of the same please... S C UK.
Really good so far👌🏼👌🏼

Can you link part 2?
It's been a year but I can't see part 2 in your videos tab.
Hey dagger how your feeling better. Love the video could watch this all day :)

Awesome video.. thank you so much for posting.
Was that an ocean salvage item?
£243 is abit strong for me on that one. Hopefully you get the beast to live! 👍
$335 is way too much. I was thinking $25. Marty T. got his for $50.
I thought it was you Dag. I clicked on this and was making a brew in the kitchen. I thought "Hang on I know that voice".
1st job. douse everything in penertrating oil (not WD40) and leave for a few days. Makes life so much easier.
This is some good sh.t D-win! Cant w8 until its finished
Exciting channel, well done! Why not just do you use a Hoover before you blow all the dirt in your garden?
I love these videos can't wait for the next episode! Smart move starting with the engine. Are you working in your own shed/workshop?
Next part! Next part!!!
Whhhooooooo a new restoration and please restore it all, not just get it running and leave it alone
Nice one

I swear Briggs and Stratton engines are damn near indestructible
awesome video :)
I'd hazard a guess that this mower spent some time under water!
That took a surprising amount of persuasion to remove the valve.
An ultrasonic cleaner would have been nice. A big help cleaning little parts especially.
Good mower
9 minutes in.. You need to tell Dennis to take this one back... lol
Take a drink every time he mentions something is seized.
Yes another video of n the ex mark
Kubota 2.0 by the looks of it 😏
lmao
I also mowed places like Walmart and McDonald's with a 60 inch deck zero turn mower.
Very good video, thanks. From the looks of it that poor Workmate could use your talents. 🙄
I hope you finish it, it will be a challenge.
I love watching restoration, but it purely drags when they talked the entire, the videos where the guys from Indonesia are perfect it's been a long and you just simply get to sit back and relax..
Most of my full restoration videos have no talking
Oh and that machine is early to mid 80s!
Nice restoration of an old Australian Victa
Wait is that you Daggerwin? I didn’t know you restored beautiful old machinery.
when something is so bad that it becomes funny :D
I love
Machinery restorer
One rusted mower. I put a ton of dish soap on everything rusted and just let it sit for days, but it doesn't even look like that would work here.
20 minutes and you realise 'He's not going to make it! It's going to be a 'to be continued''

Look at the aftermarket cheap Chinese carburetors on Amazon or Ebay. I have had good results with them overall at really affordable prices.

Hello little black cat!
We have theses victa lawn mowers in Australia we live and we use them for slashing jobs
Hi daggerwin
To get valve retainers off easily, give the stem a wack on the top with a small hammer first.
