"THANKS FOR KEEPING ME ALIVE" - A 'Sixto Rodriguez' TRIBUTE to an amazingly humble man, an amazingly talented musician with 'prophetic poetic lyrics' that still amazingly hold true today and a amazing story to his extraordinary life -
Sixto Rodriguez's first LIVE performance in South Africa, as crowd goes 'HYSTERICAL' for their HERO! ...... A rare, once in a lifetime experience and event, when Sixto Rodriguez finally meets his South African fans who during the tumultuous 60’s and 70’s Apartheid years when black African’s were severely marginalised and segregated with virtually no human-rights, used Rodriguez's anti-disestablishment protest lyrics and music as their voice to oppose the government's disgraceful oppressive behaviour of the day. And furthermore, it had been rumoured and believed for many years that indeed Rodriguez during this time was dead NOT alive when shooting himself live on stage with a gun in the US, which only further heightened their fervour and anticipation when meeting their hero for the very first time, such was the hysterical scenes that had to be seen to be believed on this monumental and unique night.
"Sixto Rodriguez had no success in America, but in Africa he was huge, and he didn't even know it with many believing him to be dead. When he finally found out of his incredible success and popularity, he went on tour in Africa and this ABOVE VIDEO was the reaction of the public" - Harley Derpson & RG
Many big thanks to Harley Derpson who is responsible for putting together this remarkable piece of 5½ min video footage, which originally was cut from the Academy award winning documentary 'Searching For Sugar Man'.
