- I am ranking all of Ash's companions he traveled with in the pokemon anime. This is probably the best traveling champions list of pokemon out there. There are no better Pokemon characters in the anime than these pokemon companions that Ash is friends with. Ok maybe, but still. I hope we see Ash reunite with his friends and companions in pokemon journeys the series.

Before I started the video, I told myself that it is almost impossible not to put Brock at number 1. Yes, his gags with beautiful women was sometimes annoying but he was there for Ash from the get-go - cooked him food, protected him, took care of his Pokemon, and supported Ash all the way.

May is my favorite one. Her battle style was like ash and I loved it. I hope she appears on Journeys before it ends.

Chloe's biggest weakness was eevee. First of all, another female companion owning an eevee. But secondly, her struggle of finding her path while others pressured her to be something she didn't want to be (or more of just hadn't decided) was pretty fine. I get it, Serena also had the same struggle at first with an eevee of her own and a mother that forced her to become a rhyhorn racer; but Chloe had an eevee that couldn't evolve which mirrors Chloe's struggle (speaking of mirror, why is everyone so surprised with eevee using mimic?) compared to Serena who *did* find her dream and her eevee evolving to sylveon.
So, Chloe and eevee get some episodes where they meet the eeveelutions, which were actually pretty fine. But they all focuesd on eevee and never Chloe. It was then in the -Prof. Cerise- Chloe episode where she did decide her path. A pokemon researcher. For fu- why? This was the same career everyone forced her to take and it felt like she just gave in. Like they "developed" her so badly that when Goh and Ash are finally nearing their goals, they remembered Chloe still has crap and just went for the quick escape.
When she got eevee, not only did she NOT have any development, but she left yamper behind. Yamper, Wanpachi, the pokemon that she bonded with first. The one she adorably holds in her arms in the first opening and before she leaves for school. Yamper, the one that only listened to Chloe and no one else when Gengar attacked, was left behind.

It makes so irritated that she just left yamper behind despite their strong bond. And only to introduce another eevee to the series as if we don't already have enough
May and Lana and Chloe Cerise all had eevee
tho the special thing is that her Eevee is also one of the 12.5% female which makes it rarer.

Brock and Dawn will always be the best with Croagunk and Piplup-their humor is just unparalleled. They even brought them both back for the Legends: Arceus special in Journeys. I just wish Brock had more character development outside of the first few episodes he joined.
I'd have to then say that Iris with Emolga & Axew and Misty with Psyduck & Togepi are close for 3rd and 4th with all their entertaining antics and good chemistry with Ash
Then in 5th is Serena with Eevee for their whole oblivious crush dynamic and figuring out her goals
I also like Goh and Kiawe's chemistry with Ash, so they'd have to be in 6th/7th for me as well.
May and Clement are the last two I actually like watching, they're just not as fun to watch than the others I've listed. All the others I'm kind of neutral about.

In fact, I’d say she’s the second most popular (after Serena unfortunately) I thought brock was someone who went under the radar by anyone who isn’t sucking off the original series. Also I’m so glad someone knows that brock peaked in DP instead of the original

This is honeslty pretty accurate. I hated how annoying Iris was in black and white but then bringing her back in journeys made me like her a lil more. But dawn and Brock will always be top companions and Serena is amazing and all. But dawn is just better. Nobody can top Brock he’s a jack of all trades
I don't see it getting talked a lot but one of the reasons Dawn was such a great companion for me was her chemistry with Ash. They're very similar to each other in many ways, one of it is that they are goal driven and it helps that their goals can overlap, throughout the series we constantly see them training and sharing ideas and even perfecting those ideas.
Dawn and Ash's personality are also alike. They're optimistic, kind, and innovative but also reckless and doesn't think too far ahead before doing something. That's why Brock is there to ground them.
The way I would describe it is like if Ash was going on about something "boom shaka laka" Dawn would get it. When Dawn holds her hand up Ash knows it means a high five. Best friends.

I think the absolute apex of Brock character development would be if he somehow manages to marry a Nurse Joy. It's totally intuitive too. He's a Pokemon doctor and most Pokemon Doctors have a Nurse Joy working with him. If Brock can finally overcome being a creep and form a genuine connect with a Nurse Joy to marry her, it would be the ultimate character arc!

18. Tracey - Never got how people like him tbh
17. Sophocles - suffers most from the overfilled roster of SM
16. Lana - Discount Misty
15. Chloe - Is she an actual companion though?
14. Max - Annoying at first but he grew on me... I was also convinced Sawyer was Max until his official introduction. That did upset me
13. Cilian - He's comic relief... he maybe funny but I need more than funny (looking at you SM)
12. Lillie - The hog off the SM cast... unfortunately, she just like any previous Poke Girl. Can't touch pokemon? (May didn't like them). Mother issues (Misty had her sisters and Serena with her own mum). Supportive little sister to Ash? (Oh, hi Dawn). She's just a repeat and uninteresting to me.
11. Goh - He had potential but some stuff I don't like... I feel like this could be personal preferences (like him catching Pokemon) but given he's the only companion in the current anime, I feel like he could do a lot more.
10. Kiawe - He's like Cilian but funnier and just more entertaining.
9. Mallow - Yep... Mallow is my favourite of SM companions... deal with it. Mostly because of the mother episode... only companion I've actually cried over.
8. Misty - She had a lot of potential but never really lived up to it IMO. If she had something like Iris in Journeys, maybe even becoming part of Kanto's E4, I could put her higher. Nostalgia is why she got this high already.
7. Iris - I put her higher than Misty... because of Journeys. I consider Journey's portrayal to confirm her character and strength. If not for Journey's, she would be much lower
6. Clemont - I love this guy, he's funny but strong and a part of one of the best gym matches anywhere. Just sad he didn't do much story-wise after the fifth gym in Kalos
5. Bonnie - Yes. She is in the top 5. Why? Because she had one of the best growth in the series. Is just likeable despite being a kid and she killed someone... deffo top 5 material
4. Dawn - Put the pitchforks down. I like Dawn but a lot of what I like is based on previous companions. The relationship she had with Ash? Grew off his character arc in AG, where he learnt to be a mentor but more supportive. She had a great losing arc... but they repeated in the same series (DP). She is great but I can't put her higher up
3. May - I feel like she is the most underappreciated companion, being the middle child between oldest Misty and fan favourite Dawn. She tugged on the heartstrings during the Manaphy movie and set the groundwork for companions with goals in the future... maybe I just feel like AG was underappreciated in general.
2. Serena - Yes, I like Serena. Can her fan base be annoying? Yes, but I can separate art from art fans. BW is when I was falling out of the series but my friend encouraged me to check out XY. As someone who didn't know what they wanted to do, she gave me a lot of inspiration and I kinda grew up alongside this series. With her having one of the fullest character arcs I've seen in this anime.

My problem with Tracy isnt the character himself. Tracy is actually a pretty chill dude. My problem is WHY he exists. He literally exists because the animators thought Brock was some sort of racial stereotype and needed to be completely replaced because apparently theres something HORRIBLY wrong with being darker skinned and having squinting almond shaped eyes (kinda..?)

Your list is so valid. In my eyes May will always be my favorite companion next to Brock. She's so underrated as a character. I dare say she gets overshadowed by the popularity Misty, Dawn and Serena have even though she is just as great as them.

Serena has to be one of if not the best of Ash’s companions. Yes, I might be an amourshipper, and that might be seen as unfair, but her character development, characteristic, and everything. I absolutely love her character. And another character I’m excited and hope to see

Dawn was the first of Ash's companions that truly felt like a co-lead to me. Some May fans will probably be mad at for saying this but her contests battles never felt as importants as Ash's gym battles to me. With Dawn that changed, her contests got as much focus as Ash's gym battles (I mean unlike May's Ash actually went to see them instead of training.)
And Brock well is Brock. The longest serving companion and IMO Ash's closest human friend, their relationship is like one of two brothers. His exit after Sinnoh was the saddest companion exist to me because at that point I just assumed he will always be part of Ash's crew and I was devestated when I realised that wasn't the case.

I was so confused that Dawn was 2nd until I realised that there are also male companions xddd. So I approve of this list as Brock is the original companion and Ash's best friend while Dawn is the best girl so she deserves to be 2nd of all and 1st of females.

Goh has by far the best chemistry with Ash. They give such genuine best friend vibes which makes him a great companion.
I loved how relatable of a character they made him and how they had Ash help bring him out of his shell and become a happier person.

For someone who was pretty much surrounded by Pokémon Black and white which is also what got me into Pokémon in the first place I honestly think Cilan was better than where he was I wanna say atleast 11 but where you put iris was perfect, from what ive seen of the Pokémon community most people hate iris or just black and white in general so at least they get the love they deserve

@sagalongos anipokegaming A joke is a joke, but, to be serious, Chloe reminded me of myself when she had troubles making decisions so this was a nice character to exhibit character development and real-life mind-consuming thoughts and fears; except that Journeys completely dropped this opportunity by showing her so less.

Oh boy. Brock, the cook, the breeder, the doctor.
Brock is also a very skilled trainer. He has almost perfect strategy and knows what exactly to do in any battles. Be it to surrender or to fight lol. The thing is, he knows his strength and weaknesses.
It’s implied with how powerful his pokemon are in that Arcues special, he is no slouch in training. Or at least maintaining a decent strength of his pokemon just in case they had to battle.
I agree Brock, Dawn and Serena being Top 3. This is a pretty good list, except Go should be lower in my opinion, co-protagonism just doesn't work well with Ash. Brock is just the ultimate homie that everyone needs in their life.
I love how Serena x Ash companions about they are together but most able pokegirls are teasing Serena about loving Ash

I agree Brock and dawn are the best then misty and Serena heck why do you think dawn has the most Appearances out of all of ashs companions in the journeys series i think she has 4 different appearances where as the rest that pop up have 1
Some people would argue Dawn is just there to promote the game releases for Sinnoh and Hisui, but you can't deny she mixes well with all the characters she interacts with when she reappears from Iris and Cilan to Chloe and Goh.
