A good way Bonnie being a child is used is the episode A Keeper for Keeps, which has her realise what it would mean if her running gag of asking women to marry her brother led to a connection with actual possibilities and thus becoming a point of insecurity for her. Nothing does end up coming of this, but taking a running gag and revolving an episode around it was quite fun and a good way to showcase Bonnie as being a younger sister.
I actually hated Bonnie in that episode, her attitude just annoyed and rubbed me the wrong way

Im so glad Clemont made it into the top 5. He is such an underrated companion. His gags never get old, his development is on point, his gym battle was one of the best in the anime, and I love his close brother-bond with Ash.

Yeah for sure, and unlike Brock and Cilan (the other 'responsible' companions), you could actually see Clement's growth as a person.
@@oliverorchard6774 Since Brock stayed in the anime for so long, his character development is very spread out. It isnt until DP and Sun and Moon where you get to see how much he's grown. But I agree how they showed Clements development was a lot better. I personally don't care about Cilan.
for me celemont gag were pretty annoying along with Brock while cilan was has diversity in his gag but those 2 lack any flavour to make them likeable
Brock has always been a beloved character from the #anipoke fandom.
I know a lot of people who dislike Goh which I genuinely understand and I respect everyone’s opinions but I personally like him.
My biggest gripe is not Goh himself but more so how he is written because I really love the idea of catching every Pokémon and I also loved Project Mew but the execution could have been so better and not to mention that I wasn’t the biggest fan of when it was first introduced because I would of preferred it if they had introduced towards the beginning of the series.
Secondly, while I do like Chole overall, I also hated her development and the decision to be a support character like why!?!? 🥶😤

This was a fun list ^^ My favourite companion is Serena ^^ the XY anime will always be my favourite season in the Pokémon franchise is because of her ^^ Her journey of doing Pokémon showcases, doing other activities such as doing the Pokevision videos and especially finding what she wants to do in life is so relatable to me ^^ The episode A Showcase Debut was the episode that made me adore her character and the ending made me cry every time i watch it but how she got back up by changing her look was so inspiring ^^ In fact i reviewed that episode on my channel and hopefully ill do more Pokemon videos someday ^^

@@brianodonnell4496XY art was consistently beautiful and nothing can top it. Funny that Journeys made it more like XY Kalo's vibe by toning back on Sun and Moon art which I found as a downgraded. Journeys is like a hybrid art between Sm and XY. XY still superior imo

The fact that both the companions of xy reached the top 5 and serena being no 1 just shows how good the series was not just in pokemon battles but also in character development .the undoubted king of pokemon series in every way .if ash had won against alain it would have been perfect (yes i am still salty about that lose even after 7 years sue me if you want 😤)
Except it's not good in regards to character development. Clemont and Bonnie were the only characters who developed there.

@@c-a-t-entertinment7075 Serena literally never at any point overcame her most crippling character flaw, her hyper-dependent crush on Ash and how subservient she is to him because of it, on-screen. Which is not in the slightest helped by the narrative treating said flaw as crucial to her character. How is her "development" good, despite that?
My favorites were: Serena, May, Dawn, Misty, Brock, Kiawe, and Clement. I just liked their character and who they want to be in their future.

Iris- I was also disappointed that she didn't stick around to see the end of the Masters' 8 Tournament, like all of those tournaments back in BW.
They also ruined Wallace (off screen battle, not listening to Ash try to say they're on their way to watch a friend in her first coordinator contest), and not having a chance to talk to the other Masters' 8 characters. An interaction with Steven could have been something like, "Oh, the Greninja trainer. We met in Kalos." "Uh, Hoenn. Do you remember the holes in Granite Cave?" "The holes in... Oh, you're one of Max's friends. My dad still keeps in touch with him."
For me my favorites and best characters by far are: Brock, Dawn, May, Clemont and Lillie, in my opinion these 5 are the most well developed and the ones who really have the best personality in my opinion.
Still most of the list you choose really are on my top list! and happy Clemont got recognized too, he is in my opinion the best kalos companion and the one who really got a better development when it come to Gym Leaders Companions.

I love Serena and while I know the amour shipping part of her character is just a cherry on the top of a magnificent sundae that is her, it was what makes me emotionally invested to watch all of the Pokemon XY series, specially at XY&Z, so I just have a higher regard for it and consider as one of the pillars of her strength.

Here is my ranking of Ash’s companions 18, Chloe 17, Sophocles 16, Max 15, Iris 14, Goh 13, Lana 12, Tracey 11, Mallow 10, Cilan 9, Kiawe 8, Misty 7, Bonnie 6, Lillie 5, Clemont 4, May 3, Dawn 2, Brock 1, Serena who is my Favourite Ash companion.
20:08 I could not agree more with this statement. All my reasonings for liking Serena have nothing to do with the shipping and she really has a lot more to offer then just that imo that you explained here
My favorite list is
18:Chole. The weakest written and as a trainer. She has nothing really memorable to me.
17: Sophacles. Really didn't need to be there. Not helped in that he has so much in common with Clemont, but nothing that feels unique when comparing them.
16: Goh. God I hate his goal. His pokemon never feel like characters, or even a part of his development.
15: Tracey. Fine. I mean I don't hate him.
14: Cilan. A funny and charming man, but dosen’t add as much to the group dinamic for me compared to others
13: Max. Now I go back and forth between him and Cilan a lot. While I do think Max at his best is better, at his worst Max is much worse. So for now I'm gonna put everyone at their best.
12: Mallow. That episode with her mom just shoots her above everyone else, but not much else I can say.
11: Lana. Has cute scary moments and funny goal. That's about it.
10: Clemont. I love him. Maybe gets a bit side lined later on, but that final scene with clembot makes up for it.
9:Iris. I think she was a unique format on a rival, and having a girl who they never really ship tease with Ash really helped with her backstop of not fitting in and feeling the world was againster. Seeing that girl would become the Unova champion is just inspiring.
8:Kiawe. I love his freak outs and rivalries with Ash and Gladion. A character who is both a great source of comedy and emotion hooks. Impressive.
7:Lillie. I loved her in seasons 1 and 2, and while she also gets a bit side lined in season 3, I always love watching her and snowy. A fun and cute, but always developing person.
6: Bonnie. Too pure to put any lower. And squishy.
5: Misty. A great first companion, that while maybe not the most developed I always felt had the most impact on Ash. I just really can't put her any lower.
4: Serena. A well developed character with some great flaws and obstacles. Only reason she's not higher is I like the other 3 more.
3: Dawn. I liked her story of her trying to live up to her mom, but finding her own love of contest. A great team, to the point to where I associate her with Piplup more than I do Pikachu with Ash. Would actually be higher, if her returns didn't always fall flat.
2: May. Nailed it in this video I have nothing more to add.
1: Brock. He's Brock. May also not be the most developed, but if Misty had the biggest impact on Ash out of all his companions, then Brock had the most impact on the other companions of them all.
Also Rotom dex is above all. Not just companions, but everything ever made by humans he is better than.

I always knew that Serena is the #1 companion for Ash and I'm glad! What you forget is that Serena has a secret crush on Ash since their childhood she started to fall in love with him and then years later in the XY Saga, Serena and Ash reunited and she's still in love with him. I know that all of you think that Ash is obvious to Serena's love for him, but don't jump to conclusions because I think that even though that Ash didn't know that Serena is in love with him, but deep down inside of him, he is because of his heart. I am sure that both of them are in love deep inside of them (Ash and Serena).
Ash only sees Serena in the same way he sees Clemont and Cilan.
Clemont is my favourite character ever.
Second is probably Max and Lillie. Tied. They're both hilarious.

Who missed the old Pokemon anime, before Gen. 9 comes?
Hit the nail on the coffin with Iris; she is my all-time favorite champion (I am so happy she won in the anime :O ) and one of my favorite companions that Ash had (I started watching anime in best wishes and played the games in black and black 2 later rewatched the series) but they did her so dirty in journeys.
Like having her lose to ash in a DRAGON BATTLE is so annoying, man, like she is a DRAGON CHAMPION! At least you should have let them tie so that neither of them is a setback.
Her loss with Cynthia should meant something, but we knew that Cynthia wasn't going to lose to anyone but Ash (let's be real) so we had no hope for Iris.
People bitch and moan about Alan but not speak about iris?!?! She was brought back to be a stepping stone for Ash!
I personally very much agree about her losing to Ash when the 2 battled again in Journeys: sure, it proved how strong Ash had become, but given that Iris was now officially a champion, giving her the win would have been not only a great way to show how much she's improved and validate her status as a champion, but it also would've been a great way to push Ash to become even stronger. I think that having him lose to a former companion of his that's also competing in the tournament like Iris instead of a new character like Bea would've been far more impactful because of their dynamic they had. But then again, Journeys writing as a whole was a bit sloppy, and giving Ash a bit more focus would've been much more satisfying since we often don't get to see him train with his Pokemon in the series, and it's a big part of the reason why I feel less enthusiastic about his Journeys team than any other that he had during the series to date. I also wasn't really fond of the way Ash beat Iris: after she encouraged his Dragonite to learn to have fun while battling, Dragonite suddenly learned Draco Meteor by turning Haxorus's attack against it out of nowhere. Not only is there no build up to this moment, but the fact that Dragonite's development in that instance was tied to Iris rather than by undergoing some kind of experience with Ash to get his encouragement made me feel like they just rushed that so that they could do other things with the series rather than putting more attention on focusing on giving the characters better plotlines. Speaking of not giving the characters of Journeys better plotlines, I feel this video did a pretty decent job at covering why Goh and Chloe were both not handled as well as they could've been, but I'm not going to to go into great detail about that right now other than that they could've done more with the 2 of them in the series rather than including so much pointless filler

Here’s a video idea you should do (that Zac keeps ignoring😒) Remake the master 8, your own match ups, Pokemon used, outcomes, gimmicks and etc. Personally, i would replace the drasna battle with alain. a 3v3 with Ash using Greninja. Anyway the master 8: The match ups are Leon vs Diantha, Steven vs Alain, Cynthia vs Iris and Lance vs Ash

Serena truly is a great character but one thing you got to remember, like when you gain a person with kids for more shipping is part of a character so it's a package deal.
Keep in mind I'm saying it's part of a character not her entire character.

Well, interesting ranking of Ash's companions, I'm sure is your opinion but I don't like Serena at Number 1, sure she has some great episodes, but being simp to Ash is not so good for me, Pokemon Showcases was fun to watch but underdeveloped and rushed, so I think Serena is so mid for me (also I don't like the Amourshipping community). I guess I have an unpopular opinion, or not?

Black and White made her terrible and what she did to Ash was no harmless teasing given the frequency of her idiotic phrase, which soke blind stans fail to understand
Journeys made her more tolerable but i was never a fan of her, and i never will be no matter how much respect i have for her. That's something people just have to accept and those iris loving fans should stop projecting themselves onto her and forcing me to worship her. They know who they are so they can get stuffed and deal with it
May is best in fiction, no one can compare to her goddessness in everything, Everything else in fiction is TRASh in front of her, She is BEST.

Serena is a trash character, but is your opinion, easily one of the worst of Ash's companions. Brock, Misty, Dawn and May are best ones in any sense. I like Serena, but honestly she didn't add anything to the show outside of the shipping.

@@blomst1277 yah me too...Serena never stood out to me that much as far as I have watched the series.Her only role was only to have a crush on Ash throughout the series with some performances in between episodes...I have never seen her showing any interest in pokemons that much compared to May,Misty and Dawn....I feel like her performances acted as filler scenes in the series(it's not that I am against such performances since I loved it when May and Dawn had taken part in those things)

the pokemon DP movies pushed Dawn to number 1 for me, and she returned the most out of all of ash's female companions mostly for good moments, and even returned to cheer for Ash in the masters 8 in the final battle. Ash and Dawn learn from each other, without Dawn, counter shields, Ice Aqua jet, and a lot of things Ash learned from Dawn to use in his battles that became extremely useful would've ceased to exist. They are the only pair to have an official duet song performed by their seiyuus Matsumoto Rica and Toyoguchi Megumi, and used as the 2nd opening for the original japanese version of the Pokemon DP anime, the song is called "High Touch".

I consider Dawn to be the best because she had great character development who experienced realistic failures, like not passing 1st round of contest few times, and using those loss to be better coordinator. May somehow passed 1st round of contest all the time and she never really learned new things like Dawn did. Unlike May, Dawn also influenced Ash to try new strategies. Ash was able to develop spinning and counter shields thanks to Dawn. Furthermore Dawn was the one who personally saw Ash become the very best like no one ever was
