    When the doorbell rang and the dogs went nuts, I was thinking “oh they will definitely edit this out” and then you didn’t! 🤣 I was mortified for a second and then I realized after how awesome it kinda was. Like that’s life… doorbells ring and dogs freak. We can still prioritize yarn over it. Love it!

    Carmen, I ❤ your sweater too, I think the low contrast is super classy, and looks great on you, you have almost sold me on it, where as looking at the Sample, I was not inspired! So , I can’t wait to see the green and mauve one,as those are colours that have been calling me this spring!take care both of you, Melissa.

    I’ve never seen you before Carmen, and thought the soft green and grey colourwork was your natural colour home. You looked very beautiful and harmonious in it. Bringing out a vibe of a gentle, lively, playful Irish lass, to me. When I saw you in the strong colours I found it very jarring! I also thought the green and grey top did not suit Jackie nearly as well, it made her disappear a bit, though she looked amazing in everything else she wore! However - once Jackie put on that Woolfolk design, which she popped in & was incredible on her, your colourful yoke sweater suddenly looked a lot more right on you. You both told a harmonious colour story. And at the beginning, she in her natural colours yoke and you in the green and grey colourwork, were also perfectly gorgeous in tandem and told a unified colour/fibre tale. It is very interesting seeing how people perceive what suits them, as I have similar strict limits for myself (strong jewel colours) as Carmen does. My safe colour is red - always get compliments in it & feel I look my best - and I have bought a lot of red yarn, but I’m in a phase where I don’t feel like knitting it or wearing it. I’m drawn to colours that don’t flatter me. Hmmm after watching this maybe I should go with that a little more 🤔
    Anyway I rarely find anyone who considers colour as deeply as I do and I LOVED the deep yet free form exploration!
    Also I know Sweet Paprika from virtual knitting together but don’t know her yarn (I’m Australian) so I loved seeing this! I shared it with her with the timestamp and it made her really happy! 🥰

    What a great podcast again! Loved every minute of it and of course the ending! Thank you so much for the KAL and I am so incredibly happy, stunned and humbled for winning when there sooo many incredibly beautiful projects by so many beautiful knitters! This was hands down my best KAL ever! There were so many fantastic aspects to it: the creativity, the inspiration, the getting together on Zoom, and last but not least, really feeling part of a community, a family even…
    I love that you have evolved your podcasts to talking about all things knitting beyond the KAL! I appreciate every minute of your sharing. I am too much of an introvert to ever think of making a podcast and I think there is a magic happening when two passionate knitters like yourselves get together to discuss and challenge one another. And the fact that you approach knitting differently makes it all the more interesting.
    Jackie you are so analytical and thoughtful! What a great conversation you gals had about colours around us, on finding them in nature vs on screen, and getting out of our comfort zones to find what fits us rather than what we think fits us better in our mind. Carmen, I think the Clair de Lune looks amazing but if you feel unsure, I would pair it with colourful earrings and a bright colour dress or skirt. And welcome to the Saturday Shrug Club - how amazing that Jackie knit you one! You asked so I actually think the one you knit for Carmen looks better on you Jackie and the other one on Carmen…
    Ahhhh, the Eurus sweater is just absolutely fabulous and Jackie, your sample in OMGE is perfect; your sweater will be out of this world! I have note decided what yarn to make it with so will wait to see your experience with it is, and anyway it will probably be a late summer, early Fall knit…
    And Spring! Yes, I am finishing up a couple of colder weather garments (a second and third Fridags Vest for my daughters that I will be visiting in Europe in a couple of weeks, and my pressed flowers shawl in Nutiden). But starting April 1st it is all about spring and summer! I have a bit of a list ready to go! A summer version of the Ranunculus in linen and silk, also waiting patiently for Moonstruck’s release of the Joni Top, and I will try a dress!! Probably a sleeveless version of the Lunch at Tiffany dress by Ann-Kathrin Bush.
    As for Fiber festivals, we have an awesome one right next door here in St André Avelin - Festival Twist - and I can’t wait for it again this year around mid-August. I think Carmen mentioned to me neither of you can make it but if things change, please, please let me know!!!

      Monik!!! Where do I start? We are so happy you enjoyed the KAL so much and it was just so sweet to find out you were the winner as you have been such a wonderful and supportive and lovely part of our community! And we can't wait to see what you make (haha no pressure to get going on that though)! Also thank you for the always kind words about our podcast and conversations! I agree, Jackie is one of the most contemplative people I've ever met and I feel so lucky she's in my life! She really gets me thinking! Btw, I think you would be amazing if you ever decided to start a podcast! Jackie and I both have introvert tendencies and we still have so much fun. Way more fun than we thought we would have before we tried it! And thank you for all your wonderful summer knit suggestions! I love them all but I've had that lunch and tiffany's dress on the docket for so long and your comment is making me want to finally pull the trigger and get it cast on! And I wish I could go to festival twist but it's literally a couple days before we leave for the Netherlands so I know I won't be able to get away! I'll have to live vicariously through you!

    The discussion on colour is so interesting. I recently had a colour analysis done and she identified a lot of colours that I naturally gravitated to but there are other colours I wear that are just me even if they don’t fall in my palette.

    • @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765
      @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765  Год назад +1

      I could not agree more Crystal! When I first got my analysis done, I felt I had to only wear colours in my palette but that didn’t include a bunch of colours that I really love! So now I wear what I want, even if I know some don’t work as well on me. But, as we’ve been musing on, what we think looks good and doesn’t is really affected by a lot of things so it’s very complicated!!!

    Carmen, both sweaters are gorgeous. The difference, for me, is that when you wear the green one, I notice the sweater and thought IT looked gorgeous on YOU (beautiful knitting, fab colour choice, great patterning, superb fit). With the quilting sweater, I notice YOU as a whole picture and I think YOU look great in IT. I absolutely understand your hesitation, if you're not used to wearing those colours; I'm always surprised when (on the rare occasion I wear it) people tell me I look good in brown, because (as Jackie says) brown is not part of my residual self-image (to get all Matrix-y).
    I'm just swatching for a Pressed Flowers Cardigan. Unlike you, Jackie, I want All The Colour, and my contrast colour for the cardigan is Zauberball Starke 6 in 2334. :D

      Wendy! First, I had to look up your contrast colour for your pressed floaters and that is amazing and I can’t wait to see it!! Second, thank you so much for your thoughts on the two sweaters! It is absolutely fascinating to me how different colours look on different people and how with some the person is wearing the colour and with others, the colour is wearing the person! But even more intriguing is how different we all can feel about which way around it is! Also, I love the idea of a residual self-image!! Thank you so much for contributing your wise and important ideas!!

    Oh, I loved your entire discussion on how we assess “our colours”. For a (quite long) time in my life I have struggled with colours because I was constantly trying to control painstakingly how outfits and objects in my life matched. It was a coping mechanism for something else and for preventing other things from unraveling, but it was really stressful. Mismatching colours made me feel dizzy and unable to even leave the house. Embracing crafting (first with jewellery and then with knitting) opened a new world to me, where I could control colours in a different, personal process. Now I am doing a bit better. I don’t think I will ever be able to wear a rainbow but I use colour more freely. Sorry for the deep comment, but I just agree that we overlook the values we attach to colour.
    And by the way, Carmen, you looked fabulous in your Claire de Lune!
    For spring I am also going to knit wit mohair as I plan to cast on “Dusking” very soon. Thanks for another great episode!

    • @jillybeandean
      @jillybeandean Год назад +1

      Carmen, your Yokelore is amazing! It looks wonderful on you. Regarding the Clair de Lune sweater, I agree with you on the colour thing, I’m a pale skinned blonde person and I’ve always been told and agreed with that I should wear darker and more saturated colours to suit my skin tone. But I really like lighter colours sometimes and I feel like I can’t wear them. I am kind of leaving that behind because I don’t care as much as I used to (it’s an age advantage ) 😂 I agree with Jackie, it is like a different version of you. It’s a quiet, beautiful sweater. It looks really good on you.
      I like the confusion and chaos that ensued when the doorbell rang and the dogs barked because that’s life, right? 🤪 I do enjoy you not editing. I think that putting out the perfect everything to the world isn’t always the best thing. It makes some of us think that we have to be perfect all the time and of course none of us are perfect and then we have a secret imperfection that we must hide.
      Love your podcast! I tend not to be a neutral user but you’re inspiring me! 😂❤🎉

    • @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765
      @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765  Год назад

      Oh Jill, I enjoyed reading every word of your lovely comment. Thank you so much! And I love the description of the Clair de Lune being a "quiet, beautiful sweater". It really is that! All of this really has me thinking about colour and wondering if while we each probably have colours that pretty much always look good on us, there may be others that are not "supposed" to look good but do because of other factors. And I also used to stick solely to the palette that was "good" for me but over the past couple of years have decided that sometimes I want to wear a colour just because I like it, even if (I think) it makes me look sickly!
      And thank you also for your supportive feedback about the realness of our podcast! Honestly, it's so nice to hear that others appreciate this kind of authenticity, even if it means their eardrums are blown out suddenly by dogs freaking out!!

    I always get excited when there's a new episode from you two! So, Carmen, with the question of "do I look healthier in Sweater 2 (Yokelore) vs 1 (Clairedilune?)" - I think both look awesome on you and you look healthy in both :), you certainly don't look "sickly" in Sweater 1 haha. When I saw it on you, I immediately thought those are great colors on her and really flattering. But when you put on Sweater 2, the Yokelore, I was instantly Wowed - like Damn those are her colors and she looks amazing - I think that might be because the dark tones and high contrast really are striking against your hair? I wouldn't say the first sweater washes you out at all, I think it actually works really well with your eyes and skin, it just is a softer look, whereas the Yokelore is very bold/striking and I can see why you feel especially "you" in it. But both are fantastic looks on you. I have a similar situation where I knit two Alpenglows (Andrea Mowry pattern). The one color combo was very naturally "me" (cream main color with blue and rust contrast colors) and the other is a bit out of my comfort zone (dark plum main color and golds/oranges and pink contrast colors). I think I look slightly better in the cream combo - it just feels very me - but the other sweater gets a lot more compliments because it's a more striking color combo. I wear and love them both, but feel especially "me" in the cream one. I don't regret knitting the plum one tho! I kind of enjoy stretching myself by wearing that color palette as well, and the more I wear it the more it feels a bit more like me! One thing also that can help a lot is accessories, which connects with the conversation about "backdrops" - if you love the softness of a certain color but wish your face was framed by something a bit more striking, try seeing what happens when you add a cowl or headband or the perfect earrings; with the right accessory combo, you can sometimes get the best of both worlds! (This was a long comment!)

I'm feeling inspired to knit more colours I don't wear often and see how that changes how I feel about how I look in them. It will be an experiment! And if it doesn't change, I like the accessories idea. Also, I NEED to see both of your alpenglows!! They BOTH sound amazing! I tried to find you on Ravelry but there were too many "Monica"s! I think the warm red colour looks fantastic on you. I think if you had the warm red near your face that would look fantastic. That being said, I love the grey/green low contrast and I don't think you look washed out in it, I do feel like it might be just outside of your usual comfort zone and that's why you feel off about it.

    For the red sweater, could you try Jaquard float knitting?
    I've found it very helpful for both, long floats & non-stretchy yarn. I've even used it w 70%Merino 30%silk yarn on a colorwork yoke sweater. Merino bloomed & kept yarn in place & the netting formed by jaquard knitting/float management gave it the stretch needed .

    I’m planning on making the eurus sweater in grey! my plan is to use knit picks simply wool worsted - I worked with it for another cable sweater (in the aran weight) and it’s super bouncy, and surprisingly soft for being 100% non-super wash wool!

    Felt great to share this time with you. ❤ your closing reflection on the concept of “should” my sense of your sharing comes to me as a sense of being in the world with my fiber. It’s an embodied opening - of the union among mind, hands, eyes, and even sheepy scents (not so much taste 😂) - but this full opening that brings new perspectives and helps me to grow by considering new adventures in making that I may not have envisioned. So love this about engaging with you both! Ok, two other comments…. First, agree completely on the grey variability and the eyes-on, hands-on experience of being with fiber. I would add it’s also a “lights-on” need - all sorts of light - sun, clouds, indoor light - make a difference. I take skeins and plates all over to get a deep sense of what happens with colors. Finally, the Clairdelune discussion brought me to a place where I thought about “design forward” knits vs a knit that forms a union with the wearer when in combination becomes something new and elevates both.

      Julie, I literally had to seek out the 🤯🤯🤯 emoji after reading your comment!! Your words are just so beautiful and evocative and thought-provoking. Thank you! And you are so right about lighting and all the other factors that play a role in the colour that we actually see. I am always especially amazed when I see the way nutiden looks in different countries. Like there is actually a different colour of daylight that different places have and that influences what we see! I'm going to have to bring some of my nutiden with me when I go to sweden in may (haha I mean, of course I always was going to anyway) so I can see if I can perceive a difference in real life! And your last comment was like an amuse bouche that set in motion my whole appetite to think about this more! Isn't it wonderful how complex life on Earth can be if we actually look for the complexity and don't just believe that things are arranged with linear rules?

    yay lopi! icelandic wool really is amazing (although pronunciation tip, the Þ letter is a soft-th sound, not a p-sound -- so it sounds like Thingborg). and yes, because léttlopi is spun, it's much scratchier than any of the icelandic unspun -- it's really best for outerwear. and FYI there is a knitting festival here in Iceland in June, in case Jackie's travel plans coincide -- i'm planning on going, myself, and very excited about it.
    and re: colors, i'm a green-blue-silver-brown-black fan (Carmen's Clairedelune is heaven for me -- and looks fabulous on you, by the way! you look perfectly healthy in both), although i also love a good red but only rarely wear red -- and while i think objectively purples look good on me, they have too strong of associations with the hippie scene in Berkeley from my college days & i simply can. not. wear. (edit: oh, and just started making a second Versal pullover, in Omge held with a strand of black alpaca-silk to darken the color down even more...)

Second, yes, my Clair de Lune sounds like it's your perfect knit colour wise! And that is very kind that you think the colours suit me! I'm still getting used to it but hearing comments like this from people I trust really does help! Third, I laughed out loud about the purple association! Haha I love that even though you know it objectively looks good, you're still like, "not worth it!" That is so fantastic. Actually my mother was dressed in red all the time as a child and now she refuses to wear it, despite the fact that it looks amazing on her. Finally, I MUST see this Versal in a darkened Omge!!!! I just started on my first spring knit - it is the Rota Jumper by Irene Lin. And I just looked up the Rota Jumper and WOWZA!! It's so beautiful but also feels like it would be so versatile too. Like you could make it warmer or cooler by changing what you wear underneath it. In answer to your question about colour, I’d never really considered if something was “my colour” until I started knitting and watching knitting podcasts. As an artist I’ve always seen colour as part of the equation and the reason for this is because adding another colour to a painting (or even a different tone of the same colour) can change the balance of the picture. So for clothing, certain types of colours suit me rather than a particular colour. I’m probably not making any sense at all but hopefully this offers a different perspective.

    • @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765
      @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765  Год назад

    1000% your coloring is healthier in the vibrant jewel colors, Carmen! Granted, the video format affects our perception, but the low volume greens/browns made your complexion look more sallow in my eyes. I am SUPER late to the party, but I just discovered the whole 'season color palette' and it has really opened my eyes and added a lens on how I look at color, especially ON people. I've always loved the colbalt blues and orangey-reds and hot pinks and I used to wear them a lot (and have kept some of my favorite pieces in those colors), but I didn't necessarily feel *beautiful* in them, which was confusing to me because I *love* them (so how could I not love them on me?). I also have a lot of greens and dusty colors in my wardrobe, and subconsciously prefer small-scale/low-volume patterns to large-scale/high-contrast ones.... turns out this all aligns with the "fact" that I'm a 'soft autumn'! once I had that realization, I reassessed/Konmaried my wardrobe and now and am more careful with curating it through a 'soft autumn' lens and it really has changed how I feel in my clothes. Even though I "can't" wear many of my favorite colors, I have found a whole new appreciation for other colors (i've always really 'liked', but maybe not 'loved') because of their transformative powers: they make me look better/more beautiful, so in turn I feel better/more beautiful.

    • @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765
      @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765  Год назад

      Aw Kaitlin thank you! haha yes, that is EXACTLY how I feel! Although I have been so intrigued by the other opinions I have been receiving and it's really making me question whether the colour can be good or not so good depending on many other factors, including context and my own belief systems. Haha but it is definitely validating to read your comment say exactly the things I think! I had my colours assessed four or five years ago and I'm a True Winter and it was a game changer with my wardrobe as well. But I also have sometimes still worn colours I love even though they aren't ideal for me and this sweater was one of those times. And now that I hear that some people really like it, it's made me wonder if colours can really be as simple as particular seasonal palettes or whether there's more to it? Basically, we all may have colours that look great on us no matter what (our seasons), but maybe there are others that "shouldn't" look good, but do in the right context? I'm kind of thinking as I go here so not sure how clear it is but I'm really really intrigued! Thank you!

      Thank you so much Joyce and it's so amazing to hear that some people (like us) have one reaction, and then others have a completely different take! It's just got the wheels turning in my head about so many things: colour, colour balance, factors like background/other colours in the outfit, our own feelings about the colour possibly projected through the energy we emit while wearing it...the list is endless! But at this point, I have exactly the same reaction: when I watch myself with the green sweater I don't think I look brutally sickly but it's kind of "meh". Then when I see myself with the colourful sweater on, I just think it changes my skin tone and I look healthier! I'm not even sure what healthier means but that's the best word I can use! Anyway, it really feels nice to hear that others see things the same as I do! Thank you!!!

    I keep hearing knitting podcasters talk about test knits... where do you find out about test knits? How do designers choose test knitters?

    • @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765
      @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765  Год назад +1

      Hi Carol! Haha I can definitely answer this question as I do so many! There are actually a bunch of ways to find out about upcoming test knits. If you have a designer you really like, you can follow them on instagram as test knits are often advertised there. Or they might have a Ravelry group as well, or a newsletter that you can sign up for. You also can follow a hashtag on instagram like #testknitterswanted or #testknittersneeded. There is also a group on Ravelry called The Testing Pool where designers advertise tests that are coming up. And then when you test, sometimes designers will contact their previous testers about upcoming designs in case they're interested in doing another. In terms of how people are chosen, I'm sure that really depends on the designer but it's almost never about knitting mastery. Designers usually want a range of knitters, from beginners to experts to make sure their patterns are understandable to all knitters. I think what is most important is your ability to get the test completed on time and to offer your feedback and suggestions about the pattern. I think a public instagram account is also important to most, so that others can see what your sample looks like. And finally, this isn't a requirement, but I think many appreciate pictures that actually have the design being modelled on a person (rather than it laying flat) so that potential knitters can see what it might look like. Hope this helps!
