I lost my dad 2 years ago and I love watching you and your dad! As a Brit I am OBSESSED with US national parks and monuments. Please never stop exploring
Love the channel. My dad passed away suddenly in 2019. He is missed so much. The relationship you have with your dad mirrors the one I had with mine. Your channel brings me comfort and for that I thank you good sir.
You guys did it the right way, start at the south end of Iron Mountain Rd and drive north to Mt. Rushmore. You get the benefit of seeing Mt. Rushmore through the tunnels, which frame it perfectly. Also, visitors make sure they drive the Custer State Park Wildlife Loop and Needles Highway. You can do all 3 in a continuous loop starting on US 385 near Crazy Horse Mountain. After viewing Mt. Rushmore go a mile or so west and you can get a great profile shot of Washinton through a slot between the rocks.
Next time you visit Mt Rushmore go in the snow, it’s a whole different feel. We weren’t planning to see it in the snow it’s just how the weather turned on us. It was amazing. Love the adventures, keeping them rolling in. 🎉
Love your content. Even though Mount Rushmore was the most underwhelming and overhyped attraction I visited in America, its always great to see you and your dad spending quality time together.
This may sound kooky, weird , but watching your videos is very relaxing. Watching the Mtn views , waterfalls is all so relaxing , my favorite video was the Vermont in the fall , since fall is my favorite time of year . The President monument was awesome. So after going to Vermont one day , I hope to visit this place is next . I hope
The fact that they carved that monument with dynamite is crazy. There is a crazy horse memorial that has been in progress for decades. It’s no easy task to make it. It’s pretty crazy to experience the monument. And the drive up to it is beautiful
Hi. Found your channel through seeing this as a recommended video. Very nicely done, both filming, production, and narration. Also nice that you had your dad along. Have subscribed and look forward to more videos. As info, I'm an avid hiker (age 71), and any trails I can see/walk gets my attention. God Bless!
This was awesome guys! I was on a “cross Country” trip in the summer of 1971 (I was 16) with my father, step mother and step brother, they chose to skip Mt Rushmore. Though I did continue my travels around the Country, (and a bit of the world) I never got there. I especially enjoyed that tour, 51 years later 😂.
I was so impressed with Mount Rushmore- just the idea of taking a tram up there everyday so long ago and creating these images with dynamite and jack hammers is mind blowing. The ice cream was good too- I had huckleberry.
I did a park's and canyons tour in 1994. I still have the photos of a younger me sitting with Mt Rushmore in the background. I enjoyed being there so much. Greetings from Melbourne Australia.
The museums that are now part of the Crazy Horse monument are outstanding! I was there in 1973, then came back in 2023 and was shocked at how great it was. I've been to Rushmore several times.
That place is amazing! I have always wanted to go there. Thank you so much, Josh and Pops, for another excellent, FANtastic video. so cool 🏡🙏🏻 🤗👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 YUMMY 🍦
If you're on the fence about going to see this, it's worth it. So much to do in the black hills. My advice for Mt Rushmore, I went right at sunrise early in the morning and was pretty much the only person there. I walked the entire trail and didn't see a single person. If you wanna beat the crowds go early. You'll see everything in an hour or less. Then head out to the rest of what the black hills has to offer
Appreciate it! Can only make the long ones every so often cause they are very time consuming. I shot 5 long road trips this summer and hope to release one a month starting with the full South Dakota one next week
@@ThroughMyLens that makes all the sense! I forgot you also have family and kids. 😂 which are exhausting without running a channel and traveling. I’ll be watching and enjoying either way! I’ll count the next long video as a treat.
For sure but I love making them! I hope you enjoy the ones from this summer. Have a crazy 15 day one from New York to San Francisco but that will take a few months to edit ahah
Wow, that has changed incredibly since I was there as a child. Dad was stationed at the Air Force Base in Rapid City and I remember going to Mount Rushmore a few times. I remember a not very large parking lot, there was no where to get food but I do remember a visitor/gift shop where I talked my Dad into buying me a softball sized pink quartz rock and I wonder to this day whatever happened to my rock from Mountain Rushmore 🧐
Great video! I’m glad you were able to enjoy Thomas Jefferson’s ice cream. 🍨 We opted to go for sunset and the evening show (which were absolutely amazing), but missed out on ice cream because it closed early.
You might be interested to know that Herb Conn, who with his wife Jan, did most of the exploration of Jewel Cave, also used to lead the team that cleaned Mt. Rushmore. (Jan was also one of the first two women who, as a team, climbed Devil's Tower. Quite the couple! I was lucky enough to count them as friends.)
Thank you, Josh & Pops. We were there in July and got some of T. J.s ice cream 🍦 plus the recipe just like you. If pops is over 62 you get into the parking garage for $5 (instead of $10) .and it’s good for a year.
Also in the area is Chief crazy horse which is so huge you can fit all four of Mount rushmore's presidents in crazy horses face. I hope you tour that one also. Really like your videos! 👍
Hey how are you guys doing? I've been at mount Rushmore myself and it was pretty spectacular to see in person. I hope you had fun seeing it yourselves.
I love this channel! Y’all helped me plan some great trips! I just came back from South Dakota yesterday night! Friday I spent at Mount Rushmore! Very awesome!
HELLO JOSH AND POPS OMG ITS BREATHTAKING TO WORK IN THAT SCALE AND GET IT SO PRECISE IS AMAZING .YOU GOT ALOT INTO THIS SHORT VIDEO AND OF COURSE THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF SUGARY FOOD ITEM TO TOP IT OFF THANKS LARRY FROM VALLEY STREAM, NY
On the back side. It was supposed to be a Hall of Records, where government records could be stored (not sure which ones). I believe it is empty though, and I am pretty sure it is not open to the public.
After seeing the magnificent but incomplete Crazy Horse Memorial, Rushmore is a tiny afterthought. IMO, it's a crowded tourist trap. Oh and look up the sculptor of Rushmore. Not a good person, and it's quite ironic.
Sorry, but knowing the racist history behind constructing Mount Rushmore I have absolutely no desire to visit unless it is to flip the bird like my fellow Natives. If you go south of here you can discover just what the American government has done and the most impoverished people not counting Haiti on this side of the planet. The true monument in Paha Sapa is the Crazy Horse Memorial.

Does your dad have his own channel?
I love how positive your channel is. It’s so much appreciated 👍💕🫶🤩
They have a very cool presentation after dark, with the faces lit up and a tribute to veterans.

Best views of Mt Rushmore I’ve seen! Thank you Josh and Pops! Thank you!❤️😀🌏🌏

Awesome & fabulous, Thanks for sharing Josh and Pops
I love your story telling with pops. Tomorrow I will be getting ice cream.
Thanks for the tour, things seemed to have improved a lot this century... The ice cream looked wonderful!

I have been there twice and loved it! It made me feel very patriotic and proud to be an American.

Enjoy your informative videos
I really enjoyed my visit to Mount Rushmore
The visitor centre and cafe was surprisingly good lovely part of the country
Don't miss the Crazy Horse Memorial. Every bit as good as Mt. Rushmore . . . and catch the light show at night there.
nah not as good
I wish I had gone that route when we were there. The views through the tunnels were awesome.
I love your content. The short form bums me out though. 😢 I hope this is short lived. I really enjoy just relaxing & watching the older longer videos.

@@ThroughMyLens oh gosh!!!! 15 days! That’s going to be 15 days of editing. Wow! I’m excited to see. 🎉
Trying the ice cream is a rite of passage when visiting Mt Rushmore.
Hurray for Mt. Rushmore!🎉

Love this place so cool and the museum that told the story . Great place to visit . Highly recommend 😊
If I would have known that cool road 5 years ago, I would have used it to go to the park. Thanks for letting me know.
Very enjoyable!! We went in July! We arrived in the afternoon and it wasn’t too crowded 😊 and we came through the same road with the tunnels.
Great video! I’m glad you were able to enjoy Thomas Jefferson’s ice cream. 🍨 We opted to go for sunset and the evening show (which were absolutely amazing), but missed out on ice cream because it closed early.
We drove Iron mountain road with our 29 foot new fifth wheel. A harrowing experience to say the least!

You must be about 150 years old then
@@LanceBeckman Your history is a bit faulty.
I want to go there. Great video, Josh 🙌🏽

Είναι θεαματικό επάνω στο γκρεμό να λαξευθούν οι μορφές των τεσσάρων προέδρων της Αμεροκανικής ιστορίας ❤❤❤
I completely forgot about the ice cream, but it seems like that was a perk of visiting the heads, I was there around 83.
Also in the area is Chief crazy horse which is so huge you can fit all four of Mount rushmore's presidents in crazy horses face. I hope you tour that one also. Really like your videos! 👍
Your channel inspired me to explore the United States
Hey how are you guys doing? I've been at mount Rushmore myself and it was pretty spectacular to see in person. I hope you had fun seeing it yourselves.
Thank you for this tour, never been there and i'm not disabled and can't walk good so i could never visit and walk all that like i use to do
You should put a link to your dad's page so we can go over there easily. Thanks!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing…
And even having been there as a kid say 30 years ago, I only really think about North by Northwest the movie, when I think of Mount Rushmore.😂
😂 pops has everyone's reaction "I thought it would be bigger". Then you realize that it's carved out of a mountain.
Same thought as your Dad, thought it would be bigger. 😊
I love this channel! Y’all helped me plan some great trips! I just came back from South Dakota yesterday night! Friday I spent at Mount Rushmore! Very awesome!
Hi. What is the best time and ways to visit and ways to Rushmore. Thanks
The scale bro 🤨
1st time I have seen up close 👍

Happy Sunday! TML for life!! Thank you so much 🎉
Isn't there an area inside the heads that was originally supposed to be an area for a museum?
On the back side. It was supposed to be a Hall of Records, where government records could be stored (not sure which ones). I believe it is empty though, and I am pretty sure it is not open to the public.
How was the ice cream?
Monumental kitsch.
WELL worth the stop and the 10$ Fee..
We said the same thing about the White House "Thought it would be bigger".
"Be sure to check out Pops's..."
HOW?
There’s a link that pops up in the top right corner of the video that says pop’s page when he says that.
I enjoy your videos and travel.
So your father has his own channel somewhere as well?🤔
Yea, I forgot to link to it but it is here - www.youtube.com/@popshiking
