It is a belief like the belief in God. All it takes is one sample within infinity to prove existence of x, while searching for x within infinity is not a computationally / mathematically feasible task. Having said that, "paguthharivu" is only one of the many types of intelligence. Consider this: We are miniscule specs roaming on India which is a small piece of land on earth, which is a small planet in the solar system. Our Sun is just a middle size star in a milky way that is in a corner of an even bigger system of galaxies. Please look up at the heavens to give yourselves a reality check. Even if he has cursorily read these, the books themselves do not open up their inner meaning unless one has practiced long meditation. He has not meditated (as far as I am aware) which rules out his chances of empirical evidence in matters of spirit either. So what are the grounds based on which Mr. Kamal Hassan makes these tall claims?

My question is what is Mr. Kamal Hassan's personal capacity in either Science or the Spirit to justify his comments? There is a famous mosque of "Kamar Ali Darvesh" in Pune. Go vist that place and explain the paranormal you see there if you can using modern science.

What would you rather have as an explanation:'Law of physics suspended in favor of the paranormal' or that 'the place has been subject to scientific ignorance'. As for the mosquito analogy, if mosquito's observable space is indeed limited to a swamp with no other living being around itself, then indeed he is correct in assuming that no one is alive except him. But this assumption can only apply to its own observable space. Also he can believe all he wants that there is life outside the swamp, but its an unverifiable information and it will be wrong for the mosquito to assume without verification. You can debate as long as you want on the questions of existence. But also it would require a little bit of humility to accept that you might be wrong if facts do not end up your side. The debate is outsourced to scientists because its their job as academics to answer these questions in a proper analytical way.

I adore Kamal Haasan. Both his acting and his progressive thinking. However, he is misleading people through his "Naasthikan" comment. Nasthikan has nothing to do with nasama pogubavan, nor does aasthi mean wealth. "Asthi" in Sanskrit means -is there or to be there. Naasthi is Na+Asthi, which means "-is not there". I am pretty sure Mr. Haasan knows the etymology and the meaning. But for some reason he is behaving like a common politician - misleading people.
Nasthikaha, male for non-believer, Nasthikaa- feminine. I understand that a lot of people are easily influenced by strong words. I do not believe that Sanskrit has a word for believer. Life is sophisticated to form new words in the current age. Looks like it wasn't as sophisticated back then. People believed in God, a few came along who said that they didn't and were branded with a new name. Just like Pakistanis were Indians till 1947, and are now called Pakistanis.

Kamal Hassan is one of the 5 best actors India has produced since Independence. However, being an expert actor in front of the camera and the ability to write poetry in Tamil and a feeble grasp (listen to his speeches in these languages) over Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam does NOT make him a "Know it all". Let us get down to basics. He lacks formal education. While this is no barrier in itself to knowledge, it limits his understanding of Science or the Scientific method. For every 2 scientists who deny the existence of God, there are 4 who believe in a creative power ex: BIG NAMES: Sir Isaac Newton, Einstein, Tesla to name a few. The first subject in logic that any so called rationalist should face is the paradox of "negative proof". A negative can never be proven. Therefore the absence of God, can never be formally proven. It is a belief like the belief in God. All it takes is one sample within infinity to prove existence of x, while searching for x within infinity is not a computationally / mathematically feasible task. Having said that, "paguthharivu" is only one of the many types of intelligence. Consider this: We are miniscule specs roaming on India which is a small piece of land on earth, which is a small planet in the solar system. Our Sun is just a middle size star in a milky way that is in a corner of an even bigger system of galaxies. Please look up at the heavens to give yourselves a reality check. Any one who ventures to say "God does NOT exist" implies 2 things 1. I know everything worth knowing in this Universe 2. I have searched for God and He/She does NOT exist. Let us analyse 1. As far as I am aware, Mr. Kamal Hassan is a human being with above average intelligence who can read and write. He has not studied Science or Mathematics (which deals with methods of proof). And his credentials in Science and Math are definitely LOWER than Newton, Tesla or Einstein. Now let us look at his theistic training: He has not studied the Koran, the Bhagavat Gita or the Upanishads, or Brahma Sutra Bhashyas or the Bible. He lacks the theistic philosophical grounding of even Zakir Naik (I will NOT drag Adi Shankara / Madhvacharya into a comparison with Mr. KH). Even if he has cursorily read these, the books themselves do not open up their inner meaning unless one has practiced long meditation. So Mr. Kamal Hassan has neither Scientific training nor expertise achieved through self study in Math, Physics or Theistic philosophies. He has not meditated (as far as I am aware) which rules out his chances of empirical evidence in matters of spirit either. So what are the grounds based on which Mr. Kamal Hassan makes these tall claims?

While you are correct, your argument is of no value. Negative proof has inherently of less value than the positive proof. The scientific method relies on negative proof to isolate the positive proof. Someone who proclaims the existence of a higher creative power is making an assertion. Therefore, the onus of providing tangible evidence about the same lies on the believer, not on the rationalist.
From a rational point of view, if existence of God hasn't been proven in an 'obervable' universe, then he/she/it doesn't exist. The rationale cannot be extended to metaphysical, imaginary, unobservable parts of the uni/multi verse(s) sustained by belief to make a positive assertion. That is what has been done in the past by beilievers in flat earth or geocentricity. As Neil de Grasse Tyson (Scientist, Director, Hayden Planetarium, NY, USA) says about your argument, " If that's how you want to invoke your evidence for God, then God is an ever-receding pocket of scientific ignorance that's getting smaller and smaller and smaller as time moves on. Add to this mix black holes where all theories of physics break into pieces and which cannot be "observed". Add into this mix the fact that the "observable universe" is being observed in totality by inanimate telescopes and analysed by human written programs. This data is then analysed by another human. It took 20 years of scanning the night sky- a limited arc(With the most advanced telescopes and super computers) for an astronomer to isolate 2 planets in a nearby galaxy where life "may" be tenable. Please understand that these scientists are the cream of humanity and consequently represent 1% of 1% of 1% and even less of total human population. So also great Yogis have existed in all places. Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, Shams Al Tabrizi Francis of Assisi to name a few have existed. It has been documented that Tesla and Vivekananda met in the US and Tesla got his idea for Zero point fields from conversations with Vivekananda. I am not trying to prop up God here nor am I trying to put down rationalists. There is no theory yet to satisfactorily explain many of the phenomena at the cosmic and the atomic level. Heck even electrons have only been recognised by their effects and waveforms. Not been "seen" with an instrument. A lion in the open field does not need your support or mine. If God exists I am very sure He/ She does not need your belief or mine to justify His/Her existence. Tell me something there are millions of bacteria that live and die inside our gut. Are we bothered about them? A mosquito that comes at night and bites people lives for a few hours. Based on it's limited experience, is it fair for the mosquito to conclude that there is nothing alive except itself? Just as we listen to scientists when they talk about the universe and their theories, we listen to people like Vivekananda and Rumi when it comes to "journeys of the spirit". The idea is that subject matter expertise is essential to take someone's argument seriously. My question is what is Mr. Kamal Hassan's personal capacity in either Science or the Spirit to justify his comments? There is a famous mosque of "Kamar Ali Darvesh" in Pune. Go vist that place and explain the paranormal you see there if you can using modern science.
My answer is to the very point you are raising on Kamal Hasan's credibility. An observable universe need not be necessarily defined by what telescopes can see or not. You observe your surroundings as well as I do. So did Tesla, Vivekanadnda, and all the others.
Within this observable universe, for example, Kamar Ali Darvesh, Pune, you say something paranormal manifests itself that hasn't been explained by Science till now. The next question is that are you going to assign the paranormal to metaphysics? Meta which means 'beyond' in greek implies that something which is beyond physics. Can one imply that our universe, which otherwise is mathematically calibrated and 'fine-tuned' with all the physical constants, is infact taking an exception in Pune to go beyond physics? As it is your assertion, the onus of proof lies on you to prove infact that it is 'paranormal', and not on Kamal Hasan who is not asserting in the first place.
One example: You may have studied Snell's law of refraction. Light bends towards perpendicular axis in a denser medium. The refractive index of vacuum is 1. No naturally occurring material has a refractive index less than one. If I show you a material that bends light away from normal while still being denser than air, will you consider it paranormal?

I am not throwing back Pune example,at you. I am just offerring you the most sincerest logic that I can offer. What would you rather have as an explanation:'Law of physics suspended in favor of the paranormal' or that 'the place has been subject to scientific ignorance'.
As for the mosquito analogy, if mosquito's observable space is indeed limited to a swamp with no other living being around itself, then indeed he is correct in assuming that no one is alive except him. But this assumption can only apply to its own observable space. Also he can believe all he wants that there is life outside the swamp, but its an unverifiable information and it will be wrong for the mosquito to assume without verification.
You can debate as long as you want on the questions of existence. But also it would require a little bit of humility to accept that you might be wrong if facts do not end up your side. The debate is outsourced to scientists because its their job as academics to answer these questions in a proper analytical way.
