All these years playing this song and I never realized or heard that little passing note in the clean part near the end of the first measure until today, but it's there alright. Took me 15 years of playing it wrong to figure it out, go figure.

MysticGuitar77 I also noticed how you played the verse with different strings, like how in your old version of the cover, you played the verse 7-5,6-7, whereas in this one, it's 12-10, 11-10-12. This is likely a dumb question, but the notes are the same octave despite being different strings, so is there a way to differentiate which string the note is being played on?

@@rarityclarity3724 The cadence of the notes is different depending on what string you play it on. It's the same note but it doesn't quite sound the same if that makes sense. It changes the tonality of the note. Especially on the thicker strings, if you play a riff up there it seems to add more low-end and bass to the tone whereas on the thinner strings, it adds more mids and high end. It's very hard to tell by ear though and it basically boils down to preference and where you're more comfortable playing. I switched how I play this riff because of that one little passing note I picked up on and missed in my old cover. In the old finger position it created an awkward stretch in order to get that note in there so I moved the position up higher on the neck and on the lower strings to make it easier to play. I'm pretty sure this is where they actually play it and not down on around the 5th fret like I used to do it.

MysticGuitar77 Thank you. That makes sense because I myself had that awkward stretch playing it the old way. I’m also pretty sure this is how it’s played since in the music video, you can see Goldman playing it this way too

That's one of my biggest pet peeves with a lot of other RUclips guitarists. They just stand there completely still, looking as bored as possible and playing the song. Drives me crazy watching it lol.

I did a playthrough of it on my Facebook page. I was planning to do a full cover of it for RUclips but I sorta lost interest in it and wasn't really motivated to spend the time to actually record it for real after that. It happens lol.

You got any interest in covering their songs on Separate Yourself or Struggle? It’d be quite interesting, given that their style was so different and the original compositions of songs on those albums that got re-recorded for Statement have a different, but just as fitting vibe as their Statement counterparts
