Dear Ewan, I have always liked the JAP engines, and would love to make a cruiser running a belt drive onto a commando 5 speed gearbox. I love what you are doing, it is great to see someone who has the ability to realize these fabulous engines.
Great job lads. When I was on the Railways as a Shunter, an old Driver told me that some of the track inspection vehicles used J.A.P. V twin engines, but I’ve never been able to find any information.
Hey Ewey, how's things? - first time I've seen this, hope all#s going from strength to strength. Hope you've still got the Halecs! Cheers buddy, Nigel C.
I have to wonder what the cost of an engine like this would be where they only make 11 in one year. the Cost has to be outstanding for a customer. Shame as this would a wonderful engine for all sorts of motorcycles and modern built cyclecars.
It's a rich man's hobby. Poor men can play with other toys. It wouldn't pass pollution limits and is not useful as a modern powerplant. Wonderful job of work reproducing them and the quality is far better than the originals but don't confuse it with a new Honda or Yamaha v-twin.
Not Real JAP engines, more precise and better built, Improved replica JAP engines. My dad told me they were British when I asked him about them, nothing to do with my Mums home country of Japan .... John Alfred Prestwich is their creator, he made aircraft engines for the first all Brit aircraft.... and many British Motorcycle makers. I remember the singles being very popular for Speedway motorcycles ...
Being some 7 years ago....
I presume this brilliant story is still going strong.
What a lovely way to work.
Well done...

Here is our 30 minute film about driving a JAP engine on small Eifel roads near Nürburgring: ruclips.net/video/kQP1vsdFOik/видео.html
It's about £15k

Ewan's work is exemplary. It doesn't get much better from an engineering point of view so yes, probably better than the originals.
