It's true folks. This gun is fantastic and it prefers pellets to BBs. It's super-fun to shoot, reliable and authentic. It's economical on the gas and it's a MUST HAVE!

Got mine in sept. just gone 20, aint she a darling ? and your right about the pellets rich, she loves em, our american friends agree too.
I've gone out there Rich and bought one and it is so amazing and addictive. It takes me back to my childhood days when I used to play cowboys and indians. Fantastic thumb's up for Umarex... ! By the way, Great review my friend. :)
Thanks for watching and the positive comments! Enjoy shooting (I need to do more!)
I tested the width of the golden bb cartridges with a pellet, if you push a bb through yhe gasket, it falls out, but when you push the pellet through, it gets stuck inside the cartridge and scrapes the inside. pellets are a little tiny bit wider than BBs, which is why you should use the silver saa45 umarex cartridges. youd probably get even better power and accuracy/or more shots per tank setup
I've just ordered one , looking Forward to it 👌
I used to have the daisy bb gun in my youth than got a 30-30 Winchester a 9422 Winchester LR now a marlin 39A a Barra golden boy 177 pump and just ordered the umarex legends co2 can't wait
I just purchased one myself. I only shoot pellets and that will do for me. Good review.
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Thanks for another good & entertaining review, glad you decided to try the pellets. I'm apparently going to have to wait another few months for Umarex to release the Canadian standard rifle.
Yjanks for wstching and commentimg! It's DEFINITELY worth the wait. I've been waiting since I first heard about it in Q1 2018. So glad I didn't give in and buy a Sig MPX.
Great review. Great tip re the pellets!
Thanks for watching!
Great informative video thanks, must go out and get one now!
put some tennis racket tape on the but plate ...and carefully cut out around the turn screw mate
Great informative vid, only thing id like to hear how it fires without background music. Apart from that good info!
just got this and the umarex saa both in the weathered look both stunning guns great vid by the way
Thanks, mate!
Dale Lewis enjoyed the video very complete video leaving nothing to be asked top marks.
Thanks, Dale!
Nice video I just ordered one of those rifles
Ahh my one female viewer! (Analytics has me as 100% male audience lol) Welcome. Thanks for commenting. I need to do some more shooting with mine - waiting for better weather! Have fun, shoot safe!
Good review the side ring on your rifle is to tie it to a saddle using a leather strap you will see this ring on the red rider BB rifle aswell
Thanks for the info!
Got old DAISEY spitten image BB Winchester 40 yr old now
Those guns have much love, much nostalgia. For many, their first gun.
Maybe you should add a leather end on the stock just as they used to do in the old west.
yeah good point, you can actually buy them to fit certain winchester rifles and i think that they would fit this also
Might need a bit of fettling but worth it.
idk if mine is not wokring properly or what buit the loading is really difficult like i have to put a lot of force to put the shells in, but other than that everything else is fine and i like it
I’ve Got the same trouble with my eyes as you but I really want one lol
Great review 👍
You'll love it, it's so cool to handle. Get a Colt SAA to go with it. They use the same shells!!
@@richwhilecooper I’ve just bought the cowboy rifle 👍😂👍
AWESOME. I hope you enjoy it as much as me!
@@maffosweetyify ps I got varifocals now so I can see!
Best plinker ever 😊
Great review(s). Nobody seems to have mentioned a second 'safety' on the rifle. On mine, between the action lever and under the main body there is a small 'pin'. If this is not depressed the trigger will not operate. In effect the cocking lever must be pulled, and kept upward, hard against the underside for the gun to fire. I 'think' this is a deliberate 'extra' safety. I am just concerned that my cocking lever is not closing enough to depress the pin, unless it is squeezed. Have you noticed this?
I had not. Must have a closer look! Thanks for watching and the info!
Cheers for the info, friend!
You were shooting so close to the fence I feared you would have to go round to your neighbours to ask for your shell cases back!
The shell-pickup routine can be a drag but it's worth it.
I wish Umarex made a gold version that was speced out exactly the way the USA .177 is made
Maybe they will!
@Rich While-Cooper, you’re right they probably will. I’m ordering the USA version anyway, but I’m going to kick myself if a gold version comes out anytime soon after I order mine. Lol. What I plan on doing though is dressing mine up with a black leather butt jacket that holds the shells as well as a black leather lever lanyard. I saw a Winchester with the same color combo as this and it looks sharp. Covers up most of the fake wood
Mabie I will go out and buy one someday ain't got the money
Coolest grandpa!!! Nice choice of music!!@
Less of the Grandpa lol! Cheers, it's free music with the Filmora video editing software. Thanks for watching!
Can it break glass or go through hard tin cans
Yes. Regular glass. Tin cans easily. This is the perfect gun for blasting bottles and cans. It's a blast.
It looks like the video was made from a film printed backwards. The loading port appears to be on the left side of the rifle and your wedding ring was on your right (divorsed) hand.
Can you really get accuracy that good from a smooth bore made for BBs?
Yes I accidentally flipped the video. Yes it's that good with pellets in a smooth bore.
Did you flip the vid loading was other side when loading shells but is other side now
Probably recorded it in that mode by accident. Well spotted.
Would I need pellet shells then to shoot pellets?
The shells ate included but I bought extra ones. The also fit in my Colt SAA pistol.
@@richwhilecooper what I mean is do the bb shells included take pellets or do I need pellet shells
Oh sorry... no, you don't need different shells. The standard bb shells work fine with no issues.
@@richwhilecooper ah I wouldn't have thought the bb shells work with pellets...thanks you just saved me money lol
I agree those style sights aren't the best. The way i was taught is to focus mainly on the front sight. The target and rear sight are out of focus but still visible. I had a 22LR winchester and it had the worst rear sight. The tiniest groove ever to line up with the front sight. The old 303 smle has a fairly tiny rear sight as well. On the winchester i ended up swapping it for a marble arms bullseye rear sight which is a peep sight and was so much better! Not sure if the cowboy rifle is designed to easily swap sights?
You can get rear tang aperture sights.
@@JohnAllen-gg1oz thought about it but my current 2 underleavers are used rossi's which i got at a good price. I go on brownells and the tang sights seem way overpriced for what they are. If i want even better accuracy i've got an old swedish mauser with an aperture which is very good. NOt sure if stuff is cheaper abroad but i'm in the UK and gun related accessories always seem very overpriced
@@robertsully9351 In the U.S. we just call them leverguns or leveractions.
I think it can be done but I don't know what to replace it with yet.
Good review. Thanks
Honest review,.I appreciate ( and always search for the truth in these ) It's a pity that we can't mount a scope or red dot sight on the rifle,...or can we?
Where there's a will... i' like a reflex sight... or a retro diopter.
@@richwhilecooper yes,.so have at it, and then,....show us how it's done. How about it?
If you do I'll subscribe.........oh that's OK I've subscribed anyway.
@@richwhilecooper Due to the placement of the safety, a tang sight would probably be impossible. Finding anything that looks like an antique scope would be difficult at any reasonable cost. Not to mention the mounting hassle and costs, if at all possible, considering the shell ejecting actions direction.
Agreed.
Hi there! For shooting peletts you need shells from a colt saa pellet revolver, or you can just use the shells that came with it?
They are totally interchangeable. I cover this in part 1 of the review

Loved the video! Do you mind telling me the name of that song at 3:33 I need one of these!
Hi Brad the music is noted in the end credits (about 18:55). They are free to use in the Filmora video editor library. Thanks for watching and commenting! Happy shooting!
@@richwhilecooper Thanks Rich! A buddy of mine has that as his channel intro music and wanted to spoof him a little in some upcoming vids......its a catchy tune! I subscribed to you as well. Good stuff! I just very recently got into some BB guns.....very cool little plinkers.
@@MrBrad777c Great stuff thanks. Appreciate the kind words amd support!
@@richwhilecooper You bet
Iam in the process of buying one of theses fantastic rifles. When you say it can use 177 pellets do you mean 177 airgun pellets
Yes they work great.
@@richwhilecooper thank you
Nice video. I have the same rifle. Mine shots a bit to the right but gives thight groups. Best pellet for my gun seems to be the JSB Exact Express. I have made a video of it if you like to se how it performs. Cheers :)
I will watch it now.
Thanks. Hope you like it :) @@richwhilecooper
I often watch your vids. They are pretty detailed.
Thank you. I watch your videos to :) @@richwhilecooper
Rich....did you use the gold shells that come with the gun, with the 177 pellets ...or did you have to use the silver ones that come with the other Umarex guns? Nice review sir.
The shells are the standard ones meant for bbs. Pellets work better in my opinion!
Nice video! I just bought one and am having issues opening the butt plate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Use a coin. Push in.. rotate counter-clockwise. Done.
A Danish 1 Krone coin has optimum radius and thickness. Helpful? It's absolutely true, but after opening it three times with my thumb alone, it's smooth, and i never got to use the Danish coin. Witch you can't get anymore anyway, since they use Euros these days. ;-)
Just thought I'd let you know it will shoot pellets like the pistol
Yep that is pretty much the title and conclusion of the video...
How come your rifle loads from the left...mine loads from the right. I shoot left handed and the cartridges load and eject on the right. Proper weird.
I reversed the image by accident.
Does that rifle have a rifled barrel? Also, with bb's, a cheap daisy 880 can hit soda cans at 30 yards, quite easily. I would hope that the expensive Umarex replica could at least do that well.
It's fussy about bbs. Some are pretty accurate. Not rifled. I don't think this is meant for accuracy (luckily). The sights are hard for me to use so I'm not the best judge on accuracy!
In the beginning the loading gate is in the right hand of the frame then it is on the left side. What's happening there?
I probably flipped the video for some reason.
I found the rifle to be fairly accurate with Daisy zinc-plated BB's, but very accurate with H&N green (non-lead as I'm shooting indoor range) pellets. However, you MUST use the actual silver pellet cartidges as the BB carttidges have a narrower opening at the mouth where the projecticle comes out.
Mine works fine with the gold bb shells... I need to try more types of pellet.
@@richwhilecooper If you check the diameter of the BB shells, the opening where the projectile fires out of (not the end with the rubber piece) is smaller than the pellet shells. You can try sticking a pellet in that end of the BB shell and see it is way too tight. The pellets out of BB shells are likely getting smashed/deformed upon leaving the shell.
I shall check... but everything seems to be working very well. Fired pellets seem perfectly round with no deformity.
Are shells ok falling on the floor? Are they likely to get damaged? Cheers
The shells are very solid. The only issues would be a) the rubbery bit at the bottom might get scuffed - i keep mine coated with silicone grease or b) detritus getting in side the shell and hamming the gun. Light maintenance will likely mitigate these potential problems. The shells dropping onto concrete is unlikely to damage them... at least, not in a short space of time.
Could you put pellets in the bb shells?
Yes. This is literally in the title of the video.
Rich While-Cooper
Not really but ok
Very interesting! Is the bore rifled or smooth?
Smooth, to the best of my knowledge.
@@richwhilecooper That explains the inaccuracy. A rifled barrel makes a BIG difference!
It's smooth, but with pellets, expect 3/4 groups at 10m.
Ye sorry I maid the comet at the start of the video should of waghted till the end I didn't mean eny offence and was just trying to answer the things you said
No worries mate I was just pulling your leg.
Just put an order in for one of these, just wondering what it's like for noise, is it a window shaker or is it quite neighbour friendly??
Pretty quiet!
@@richwhilecooper ah thats great news! Also great reviews buddy keep up the good work
do you use pellets in the BB shells? Or do you buy the optional pellet shells that are usually used with umarex Revolvers?
Pellets work fine in the standard shells but my DAN Wesson only shoots bbs. COLT SAA pellets work great.
@@richwhilecooper OK thank you, great review by the way!
How yo load the pellets ? Inside the shells? correct? you gotta make them smaller or what
No need to make them smaller, load them into the rear. They will fit snugly.
@@richwhilecooper oh ok I thought into the shells
Do you know if the Colt pistol also shoots the pellets well?
Maybe you said, and I missed it...
I have not tried but I will. I was sure it didn't but recall I tested a different gun (2.5" revolver) NOT the Colt SAA. I now think it WILL work.
Hi!
Im planning on buying a colt saa 7.5inch barrel bb version, but i want to shoot pellets, should i buyy shells from the pellet version or i can use the bb shells with pellets?
I found the shells are interchangeable!!
Yes, the SAA Version can fire perfectly fine...even better as BBs !
The Colt SAA shoots pellets better (IMO) than BBs and you use the same cartridges for both
hi sir, Joe again, do you prefer electric springer or gas airguns?
I am unable to interact with students on social media, Joe so cannot respond to your comments, sorry!
Are the pellets preforming in your Colt also or would you recommend bb:s for that one?
Yes I would say it does!
How is your fake wood stock holding up, any issues? Very nice rifle👍🏻
None as yet. A regular wipe with some silicone oil should prevent it drying out and cracking. Thanks for watching and commenting.
hey man lit video, cam f
hey friend, did you used the bb shells and insert the pellet inside? or did you got "pellet shells" specially for pellets?
These are the regular bb shells that I pushed pellets into. Works a treat! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@richwhilecooper So if I was going to buy extra shells... Should I buy them for BB or for pellet?
@@richwhilecooper aprettiate amigo, thanks for the help, blessings from ciudad obregon, sonora, mexico, today i ordered mine. with extra shells, but i bought pellet shells.
Rich quick question did you use the bb shells with the pellets or did you have umarex saa pistol pellet shells cheers
They are interchangeable. The shells are the same. I have found pellets work better in both guns.
What CO2 12 gram tanks would be recomended for this air rifle?
I'm not picky to be honest... usually I use Umarex or Crossman.
I love her videos man get some f****** new glasses you can shoot right I love your videos I'm a subscriber I'm not being mean get some f****** new glasses so you can enjoy it
I have bifocals now. Also I use the force.
@@richwhilecooperlol 😂
Sir please tell me can i use pellets in the shells of cowboy bb rifle ????
Yes you can as explained in the second video of this rifle I made.
Sir can you ship this rifle to india , i will pay you extra , and it would be really grateful if you ship it for me , i need this bery badly
I don't sell anything.
what pellets you used in this gun?
See time index 0:24.
It is easy to clean the barrel after using pellets?
I should think it would be but I have not tried.
@@richwhilecooper just tried, easy!! The lack of rear sight adjustment for windage is an issue, mine shoot to the right. I just made a 3d drawing of a new rear sight with windage adjustment, just send it to the machine shop.
Sounds great... send me a picture when it's done.
@@richwhilecooper sure!! Even the drawing if it work!
Thanks bud really appreciate it!
Doesn't Umarex recommend not using pellets in this BB rifle?
I wouldn't know but I can think of no reason not to. I've put about 250 pellets through it and it is functioning reliably and the shots are accurate.
Häh ? Is this from your Editing, have you turned the Picture ? The Loading Port is on the other Side ?
Busted! You got me. I edited it. I forget why though...
Is the barrel rifled?
No.
