    China cheapies are definitely not the quality of something you could get on Esty . However they will get you off the ground to your journey into the cloth pad world and you will definitely appreciate when you have a proper stash . I think these pads are great for when your in a bind and it’s better then the chemicals that in the store bought pads . So I would never put down anyone who starts off with these in fact I would praise the for making a healthier choice . Cloth pad buying can be addictive since there are some many choices and cute prints which could easily get costly. I wholly intend to gift some my cloth pads as a starter kit to some one or donate them to a women’s shelter so that they may have a substantial way to deal with their cycle and then I will cut myself off from buying for a while .

    I actually bought a few of these from AliExpress before I started buying pads that were made in the UK. I still have them and use them along with others and I have to say that they have never leaked and have never given me any irritation. I think this all depends on the seller and what materials they use. Saying that it all depends on the individuals personal income. I would love to make my own but I am totally useless with a sewing machine.

    May I request a video, miss? Can you do a video where you cut the cloth pads to see the insides and compare the China ones to the non-China ones? Then you could do as you wish, eg, pull out the material and compare, etc... . You could even do a video where you do an absorbency test with China vs non-China, or even do a test of your own where you wear one of each and tell us if it leaks off the side onto the PUL material . Not telling you what to do, just some ideas for informational videos. I don't see any videos like this and it would be extremely helpful. Thank you so very much and God Bless you!

    I bought those from Amazon when I started switching to cloth pads and although I've learned now how to sew my own, I still use them. They never leaked and are a good start if you are not 100% sure whether you really want to switch from disposable to cloth pads or just want to try them out :)

    I bought a pad similar to the one in the video a while back because I'm new to cloth pads, I just wanted to try it without spending lots of money. I quickly discovered I didn't like the pad AT ALL, it's ridiculously wide when snapped and because it's made of polyester/PUL it was really hot and made me sweat. Needless to say I no longer use it and bought some better quality ones from sellers in the UK and I love them.

    as a fashion design graduate: unless you buy from a CERTIFIED source (with a certified chain of production) there is no guarantee that the factory you make a deal and order from? is the place your items are made.
    in many cases a "show" factory has been set up with shiny new safety features and nice equipment, and that is the one they show the buyer, but there is no guarantee your products are made there.
    this is why it is critical to buy from a country with STRONG protections for labor.
    for items that touch... uh... sensitive parts, especially (or food) i would also not buy directly from some of these countries as their labeling laws are non existent, and when these items are imported the inner material is never tested.
    in fact the outer material is rarely tested, so all sorts of chemicals and so on could be present.
    since a pad is not INSERTED or INGESTED it falls under a lesser testing program, as well.

    I bought one set of the cheap ones on Amazon to try cloth pads and I was very please with the absorbency and how soft they are but I find the shapes off so I only use them when I was at home . Then I decided to try charlie banana pads they only came in sets of 3 for 22 euros but the quality and the shapes are superior and gave me the confidence to use them when I'm outside my house. Honestly I don't recommend the cheaper ones even if you are starting to use cloth pads it can put you off to use them I regret not buying the more expensive ones the first time i decided to use reusable pads

    Such an investigation, sister! Thanks! This subject is so important to me. I came down to comment this and thought mine would in between other appreciation comments but a I'm surprised that's not! Everybody here seems to be commenting just from the customer perspective! No one thinks (and this apllys to all of our consume) on the conditions things are made/sourced. "we want cheap pads no matter what". Then the world's not gonna change, people. Each of us is the maker of the world each day. Can't afford fair trade priced cloth pads, then make your own! And see if you wanna work cheap. "I can't afford..."? Or "I don't want to"? Many of us wasted much more money buying disposables for eternity, so let's measure our words and see what is really about, be honest "I don't wanna loose the comfort of buying cheap no matter what world I am creating with this behavior". To think about...

    • @ugusmik
      @ugusmik 4 года назад

      Let's not justify with the simplification "anyway, is better than using disposable". Is not about condemning others for buying cheap pads, but asking oneself about it.

  • @mishi144
    @mishi144 5 лет назад +1

    I find them quite warm and a little itchy, though I have certainly found them to be more breathable than disposable pads. I haven't tried other kinds of cloth pads yet. I'm looking into trying cotton top pads to see if they are more breathable and now that I know there's no guarantee about where those cheap eBay pads are coming from I won't be purchasing anymore.

    I bought one of these because I saw an ad and wanted to try cloth pads. The website says they’re hand made in Vancouver, BC but when it came to me, it was shipped from China. I reached out to the company to ask about this and their contact info said they were based in England. When they replied, they said most of their stuff is made and shipped either in the US (bull) or China. So basically they tricked me (and probably many other people). There were other issues and lies on their website (like only publishing 5 star reviews that may or may not have been fake) but they had absolutely no other reviews. So frustrating.

    I LOVE this video! My first set of RUMPS (not counting my cup) were these cheaper Chinese pads and I have REALLY liked them. I am on a very tight budget and don't have a sewing machine. I work two jobs and don't have time to sew my own so I needed the less expensive pads. I wish I had heard about the destash groups before I bought mine. The ones I found are thin and very absorbent, don't smell, they wick wetness away, don't leak, etc. I've had no trouble with them and would highly recommend them. I do hope the workers are being treated well though. That is important to me. I am very "green" and try to buy organic and fair trade products and compost/recycle 90% of my waste. The company I got mine from is Hibaby. Is that one of the companies you mentioned? Thank you. I appreciate very much all the research you did!

    • @FlowOfTheGoddessClothPads
      @FlowOfTheGoddessClothPads  7 лет назад

      Hi, I am glad they are working for you. Like i said in the video i have no judgement on those who do use them and like them it was simply a video to let people know the facts about them as many don't know. I can't speak about individual companies as i chose to keep that information private (like i said this was not an attack video on any one person). Your best option would be to email the company and ask if they were purchased from China and if they have any information on the exact factory and welfare issues surrounding their supplier.

  • @Apairoffluffysocks

    Excellent video. Very clear and concise. My main concern with these pads has always been the ethics regarding the working conditions/pay of the people who make them. Clearly, as you discovered, it is very hard to find out about this. I wonder if it is a case that a factory owner will undercut another factory owner in order to get the work, and they balance that cost by reducing the workers wages. Thank you for posting this video and all your hard work with the research.

    • @FlowOfTheGoddessClothPads
      @FlowOfTheGoddessClothPads  8 лет назад +1

      Glad you liked it Louise! judging by the price retail, the tiny wholesale price which they still profit from by the time the factory pays it's material and business costs and turns a profit for most of these pads I don't see how there is anything left to be paying staff fairly :-(

  • @bilboinlancashire
    @bilboinlancashire 4 года назад

    Thank you for this video, and yes we don't know where they are coming from. I have been searching their origins but companies only stand as a brand but nothing else. Most of them come from the same factories and we don't know their working conditions. There is an extremely huge gap between made in China and made in EU ones which makes you think it can't be only due to the fabric quality. Meanwhile all these rumours and news keep appearing on media about cheap labor, or labour slavery of ethnic minorities in China... Whilst trying to protect the environment we might unwillingly support another harm. If EU ones are not affordable their quantity might be kept less and washed more often. I recently found some shops in Turkey which also produce from %100 organic cotton and at a very affordable price. Hopefully more manufacturers will increase therefore we can start supporting our local businesses and know where our products are coming from.

      I've tried to contact Bree many times about the ethics of her pads and received no answer at all, as have many others I know - I wouldn't get your hopes up! Her pads are definitely China cheapies, and she seems oddly proud of that. She's currently selling a new 'organic' range but as said in the video, it's not like there's any certification of that. Also, since you can buy the exact same pads she sells on eBay or AliExpress for a fraction of the price, she must be turning a huge profit and it seems very much that she doesn't want to ruin that.
