Are you insane??? It seems that you were far above the inclination limit of the Prado. In a situation like that there is no way to step back! Amazing Car, insane driver! Congratulations!
That is fantasic. I Might be getting a land cruiser my self soon. Looked liek you had the diff locks on. But that was insanely step loking. score 100/100 that was just great to watch
more popular than Land Cruiser in Dominican Republic, nevertheless is clear that the Land Cruiser has more power over the PRADO... in this country there is everything you can think of to test an off road vehicle (sand, mud, swamp, etc) ... and it certainly does the job... I own a 4.0 V6 Prado and could not be happier and I have owned many many heavy duty vehicles...
generaly your right about the lockers, but on very steep rock hills(not alot in usa) tration control seems to work the best, because its very simlar to the type of surface as a road(which tc is designed for),but for rock crawling locker are the best, ps. i know the prado and land cruisers are completely different suvs, the prado and 4runner are pretty much the same thing, and i live in canada so we don't even have land cruisers, just lx 470/570.I do have alot of us magazines though.
I love Land Rovers and wish they were reliable as I would buy one it it was, but in Australia where a breakdown can mean death we have a saying- " If you want to go into the outback buy a Land Rover or a Landcruiser, if you want to come back again buy the Landcruiser." There is a reason why when you get deep in the outback the only cars you see are either Landcruisers or Patrols... May not be the harshest terrain in the world but it is deadly when you have a breakdown.
on hard rock surfaces like this the tration control will do better then diff lock, all diff locks do is keep the axles locked togther,it doesn't pervent the whole axle from sliping, tration control makes sure no weels slip.the range rover sport and the lr3 that made it up this hill both had tration control, plus the land cruiser lr3 and rrs all where dieseils which helps alot on steep hills. ps not all land cruisers have front or rear diff locks, some of them do but most of them don't!!
First of all, Land Cruiser 70 series, with 3 factory locking is the most capable LC for off road use. Secondly Prado and FJ are built almost on the same basics, so there should not be much difference at all between them. Both have IFS, but have live rear and separate frame. Biggest difference is the outlook-
Of course it could. True locking differentials offer more traction than TC at the moment. Many manufacturers will be moving in active type diffs in future. Toyota does not yet use these, but possibly in future.
funny thing is that the first guy/girl found that really steap rock in the bush and thought yeah i could drive up that lets give it a go what a great idea :D now thats balls :D
my point is that tc does have its adavatages, epeascaly when a wheel leaves the ground,it maintains traction while keeping manuaverablity, plus land cruisers tc isn't all that great, and works best with diff locks, the traction control you would find on european off roaders such as the porsche cayenne and lr3/discovery 3
@kuiper1996 Yea thats true actually, didn't hear it at first. But I didn't realise it, if you look, there are two different cars doing it, the first is the petrol with roof rack and rails, and the second is the diesel without the roof rack, only rails. at at 0.33 it is definitely a diesel 3.0 KZ-TE engine. no doubt.
Cont. What I mean with the last sentence is that if you buy a Toyota from australia and take it to the north pole. It won't start after a night on north pole. It needs bigger battery, and more powerful start. Car manufactures put different kind of parts on cars sold on cold areas than used on warm. Example Mitsubishi puts 2 batteries on all new Pajeros sold here. That's why they start even on -40 like nothing. It has nothing to do with brand.
Mate, diff-locks maintain traction much more then TC when a wheel leave the ground... TC is only a cheaper option to front and back diff locks... Thats why The worlds bext offroad capable 4x4 (Jeep Rubicon and LC70,76 come with diff-locks or have factory diff-lock options!!). I hope you are not getting confused by trans-axle diff lock!!!
That's your top5. Mine is a bit different, but same many brands yes.:) Body on chassis isn't necessarily any better. In LR's and Mitsubishi Pajero 4Gen, the monocoque body is actually better. And chassis is not better in terms of safety, it is actually worse because crumble zones aren't controlled as well and the body doesn't need to be strong in car with chassis. So in terms of safety, monocoque is much better. ;) You can see that, look new Mitsubishi's or Land Rover's crash tests.
I believe this car is the Lexus GX470 in the US, which people think is not a real off road car. Next time I hit Oceano Dunes I'm taking a video of mine.
@Simmo1973 Not upset at all. First, 43 degrees isn't all that steep, especially on flat rock. Hell we have a 30 degree hill here on pavement headed to the highway on ramp.
if only there was a way to retrofit the traction control to earlier models.... agree on the pushing limits comment above - a wheel lift and bounce would have been enough to push it over tipping limits and a long roll down hill. backing down that hill would have been difficult - stall stop and keystart plus need a spotter or two.
Good vid, but when you compare this to the d3 the d3 goes up with no prob, even stops and pulls away with now wheel spin, here the toyota is spining quite a bit. Still impressive though
very interesting fact.... I have seen pictures of the Hilux (which I also have) in its polar version... very nice you should take a look at it if you havent .... anyway where did u read this... i mean you are practically sayign that toyota its the only maker with vehicles capable enough to drive in the north pole
I thought the Range Rover sport doing this rock was good, but the Prado does it quite a bit quicker and easier! Lots of power with that V6. Not so sure the KZ-TE engine could do that though....
The Prado is landcruiser 120!! Funny, are you an engineer and have conduct strength test on the frames , and what are the numbers for defining light duty and heavy duty?!!
It did the climb with a lot of throutle....with difficult. The Disco 3 did it stopping and going again, made it easy....there is no way, Disco 3 rules :-)
top 5 i think now is land rover toyota merc g class mitsh, and jeep, for off roading. Someone will say thet hummer is but all american ambassys are driving toyotas soo. And prado is body on shasy (dont know how to spell) like land rover so it must be strong and safe. we all know what systems it has so no need to say. regards
@juanchojaimes87 most AWD Cars has at least a Reardifferential-lock. Even Rav 4, Tacoma, Tundra and Hilux have got them. I think i should know this well, because I work at Toyota in Germany.
I ment to say i hope you are not confusing Toyota fortuner with Toyota Prado?? Because Toyota Fortuner is not a landcruiser as it only comes in AWD, or 2wd. Just Like Klugger and RAV4.
toyota won dakar 5 times in the 70 tis and 80 and they dont wont to do offroad competitions becose they dont need to prove any more. Now they are more in the F1 not offroad any more. still they made one of the top 5 offroader. Sorry about spelling.
What a gorgeous clip. I've come searching for this clip many times over the years. So beautiful.
That's Nuts. Thumbs to the driver. Balls of steel.
Brillaint stuff.....only as Toyata can.....love it when the wheels spin mid air and you u can see that electronics kicking in..
This is pure beauty of old school locking front diff. They work, everything, all the time.
Are you insane??? It seems that you were far above the inclination limit of the Prado. In a situation like that there is no way to step back!

Increadible.. I whant one !
Although I`m not sure if i would have the courage to try that.. Scary !
The short transmition is this case is the key

Ok, so tell me, what is a Land Cruiser? The HDJ100 is a Land Cruiser? The new LC200 is a LC? The KZJ70 is a LC?
I shitted in my pants just watching. I thought I was good..
very interesting fact.... I have seen pictures of the Hilux (which I also have) in its polar version... very nice you should take a look at it if you havent .... anyway where did u read this...

@we5leyz it is steep but i believe the angle of the camera is making it look steeper than it is
TOYOTA ROCK !!
The Prado is landcruiser 120!!
Funny, are you an engineer and have conduct strength test on the frames , and what are the numbers for defining light duty and heavy duty?!!
As steep as it may be and it is, I think the 2 camera is exaggerating the angle a bit too much
nice vid btw
sounds like the turbo diesel
это настоящая, горная магия! ))
それはすばらしかった
It did the climb with a lot of throutle....with difficult. The Disco 3 did it stopping and going again, made it easy....there is no way, Disco 3 rules :-)
Nice
Only prodo!!!!!
Is this the diesel engine or the 4.0 petrol?
We do these kinda climbs in India on almost everything except cars :p
the first one is gasoline and the second one diesel right?
