Londolf the "all things fire" wizard! I played around with this idea in the past. It works very well indeed. One observation I had was making sure the coil does not exceed the diameter of the bottles mouth. If it is oversized it tapers inward and your little hooks don't get a full purchase inside as it hits the mouth before it can fully open. As usual my friend you teach wonderful skills and Connie shoots wonderful footage. You two inspire me in so many ways! Thank you both for being there to teach us "THE WAY" to be graceful, thankful, and skillful without arrogance or boasts.
Very simple, but useful as always! If you bend the hooks a bit under 90° you get a better grip inside the mouth. Two other ways: most of the bottles are flanged at the mouth - you can put a piece of your chain tightly around the neck underneath the flange and over the top to the opposite side (the first and the last chain link bend to a hook) - or take a 20cm piece of 1mm-Kevlar-twine and make a double-T-fisherman's knot, put the mouth of your bottle between the two knots before pulling them together tightly - Kevlar doesn't melt, it withstands temperatures up to 400°C/750°F, more than enough for a decent camp-fire. Stay safe and keep on with your good work
I like this too for being FREE! Don't want to spend money for something that I just want to have as a backup. Maybe I'll not use much, but I'll have in case.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the video. RUclips has again gone off the deep end and did something that I consider not too bright. They are no longer sending me any notifications of new videos having been uploaded by people I'm subscribed to. In order to get notifications I *HAVE TO* use youtube/"gestapo" uh I mean Google branded app or internet browser. As a result others are not notified of my new videos as well and my video views have dropped in half. Anyway I said all that to say that I am no longer notified when you put up new videos so I guess I will just have to drop by your channel page from time to time to see what's new.
Downright cool! Gonna come in handy. I have two of those bottles. One never sees fire. Ill be able to hang the other one now instead of setting it in the fire. I use them in conjunction with my 40 oz wide mouth Kleen Canteen. Thank you, Lonnie.
Last year I took the kids camping but forgot to bring a grill so I made a Dakota fire pit took two hangers and made a tripod just bent them around the top of tripod and the cast iron handle & made some good chili will definitely try this method
Perfect way for me to use my steel water bottle in camp from now on. I'll have to check the Ironwood trees around here to see when these hangers are in season! (Juuust kidding, my friend ... I saw in "Wildwood Wisdom" that these only grow in very specific areas of the world. Big Box stores, mainly!) Thanks for the great, useful tip, folks :) Stay safe and God Bless
part of being a good prepper and out doors man is being self reliant --- very crafty sir and i too have the same gene. i call it the boy scout reflex... lol great video. i need a bottle like that i must admit . my canteen is a lot but more is better. awesome camera work connie:)
Hey Lonnie. I have not seen those wire coat hangers lately, anywhere up here in PA. Of course, there is no real call for dry cleaners where I live. We are not urbanites and really don`t have any use for them. The wire has so many uses. Thanks.
Good stuff making your own! I knew about fish mouth opener, and then I watched this video. The same day, while browsing local shop for a berry picker (blueberry season here in Sweden) I noticed they sold clamps for jam making, designed to clamp shut a small plastic tube for tapping the jam or lemonade. Long story short, this metal clamp fits PERFECTLY just like a fish mouth opener in a metal bottle. Very similar in design. The one I tried with is the wide mouth 'klean kanteen' model of bottle.
Cool beans on the drinking bottle hanger. I didn't think a coat hanger was that resilient. I am looking for a multi tool but they are darned expensive.
That was a great idea: easy, yet effective. If I can make it, instead of buying it, I try to. I also loved the way you made the tripod with the small chain, that became the hanging point. Always inspiring! Thanks for the video. Stay safe out there, and God bless you and Mrs. Connie!
Great idea. I like those bottles too. They make aluminum ones though that aren't any good. Our water here is somewhat "hard" and the minerals ate holes in them. After finding that, I looked inside the rest and all had some corrosion. The stainless ones are much better.
@@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival Ha! No, the still is separate! We keep those bottles filled all the time in the refrigerator or next to the bed, so the water sits in them a long time. I got rid of all of our aluminum ones.
Hello Lonny hello Conny Thanks for the Video Thats a great idea but i Think it must be also possible with a Woodstick in the Neck of the bottle and a cord bind to the wood stick All the best good to see you again Yours Frank
what I do is get a small stick, wider than the opening of the bottle, but not quite as wide as the full bottle. I tie a piece of twine around the middle of the stick, and then stick it inside the bottle. You can slip it in vertically, but because the twine is tied around the middle, it goes horizontal when you try to pull it out and catches on the mouth of the bottle. Very easy to improvise in the field. I find it doesn't burn as long as you use a small fire just big enough. You could also use paper clips to twist around the stick and then hang a few in a chain before using twine, just to give yourself more clearance from the fire.
One could also use a string around the short stick as you suggest and extend that string up only a short distance but not clearing the top of the bottle. Then secure a chain to the string such as I did here in the video.
RUclips has been really messing up lately with notifying subs of new uploaded vids. You may have missed some of my other videos I recently uploaded if you have not been notified.

Now that's a grand idea with no permanent change to the bottle. Nice.

I love your “hacks”! I’m a big fan and I’m glad you’re back making these videos
I could'nt find a fish mouth spreader in my local stores so I did what you just showed. They work great, And its free. Stay safe.

So simple yet so useful. Thanks, Lonnie!!
Lonny and Conny, thank you very much for your video!
Great idea, I'm going to make this out of 1/8" stainless steel welding wire ,which I have a supply of in work
Great to see you back. Thanks for another wonderful video.

There ya go, a little bush instruction. Thanks.
I've always been curious as to what Lonnie and connie do for a living outside of RUclips. They truly are great people. Very knowledgeable too
Simple and effective. Was planing a video on using water bottles over the fire. I have two different ways from yours I want to share. Thanks Lonnie

Thanks for the video. That's the style that I have too Phresh. That's a nice little length of chain, strong and light weight.
Hello to a wonderful team 😇😇😇
Great Idea. Thank you for showing.

Good clever trick giving you another piece of cooking kit, worked really well, thanks.
I was even amazed by the tripod at the end. Wow!

Yes, I definitely learned something! I have an "official" mouth-spreader, but will be on the look-out for a little chain. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, what a great little trick. Keeping that one stored away in the memory bank, thats for sure!
Thank you for a great presentation of a great idea. 😎💙💛

Great video, sir. Very useful!
Very innovative, Lonnie! Thanks for the demonstration, I'm going to try this out!
Good trick to know. Thank you. Rick.
Great information. Loved it.
pretty fancy boss I use a piece of ceiling hanger from drop ceiling wrap it around
Great idea thanks and God Bless
I use one of those mouth spreader things. I got the big one since it has more tension when open. Works great, but yours seemed to work well too.
Like your chain lashing

Wow you folks have some potent water. Are you sure that the pipe that the "water" comes out of is not attached to a still at the other end? lol

Hey man! Long time no see ! I'm happy to see you are in amazing shape, keep rocking !
Great to heart from you again my friend. Sure miss your videos especially the fire videos. You are a master of firecraft.
Alsome idea I have all the items u used. And had the same problem. Thanks for the answer
I have a couple of fish mouth openers that do the job.
Always interested in more.
Try to use with hay oven/vacuum cooking. Mixed results for quality!
I looked into that sort of cooking a while back as it sounded fascinating. Never did follow up on it however
very good idea
Good to see you again. God bless.
Very very good idea
Very nice !
Amazing tips thanks 😊
Ingenious!
Nicely demonstrated brother! Hope you and Connie are doing well! Best wishes friend 👍🏽👍🏽😎
We are indeed doing well. Hope the same for you and your loved ones.
Thank you sir! Yes we are doing well!! Thank you for your reply!! Have a great weekend brother! Very best wishes 👌🏽👍🏽👍🏽😎
Nice tip
Good stuff.
Excellent
Nice work! Only thing is it's getting harder and harder to find metal hangers nowadays, seems like they're usually plastic.
I have a similar one and I picked up some titanium chain that is super light
thanks
Have used one for years.. I also open up to hang my small pathfinder pot over the fire as it has two holes in the lip already.. pretty dang handy
I have been doing that for a while. But good video .
Great idea, I'll have to make one of those.
Very nice
Thank yall

That such handy
I noticed that 7 people made the effort to down vote this video. I'm at a loss to see what they found so objectionable?
La vie est si belle
GREAT LONNIE! PARABÉNS PELO TRABALHO! ABRAÇOS AQUI DO BRASIL!
Don't get me wrong, it's a neat idea, but I prefer to wrap the wire around the outside of the bottle neck, resulting in an external bail.
رائع 👍👌
Yay!
When dealing with cheap metals and fire always be careful of contaminating the drinking water with tin and nickel.
Lonnie, I just cut the hanger below the twist. The twisted part is useless unless you're making a marshmallow skewer.
Impromptu corkscrew my friend! Happy trails.
