    I am torajan myself and i can say that you explored my home village more than i did. I am glad that you got a nice tour local guide and also grateful that you shared our culture so people can get to know it more. If i may add an information, the reason why we slaughter buffalo at the burial ceremony is because the soul of the deceased will have to ride the soul of the buffalo to go to puya (after life), and thats also the reason why the baby is burried in the tree, as the soul of the baby is so small that it couldn't ride the buffalo yet. Burrying the baby in the tree will make the soul grow bigger also as the tree itself is growing too, and once the soul of the baby become big enough, it will reach its time and ready to ride the soul of the buffalo to the puya. The hole of the baby grave in the tree may not face the direction of his/her home. It should face the opposite direction as they supposed not to return home to be with family, instead go to the puya.
    Maybe you already knew this information, but i hope those who didn't would now do.

    Cara melepaskan bulir padi nya masih tradisionak, kalau di daerah saya di Luwu Timur cara panen padi sudah modern, menggunakan mesin, padi langsung di masukan karung tak perlu memisahkan dengan daun2nya, tidak perlu menjemur, sudah ada yang siap membeli di jalan tani, di angkut menggunakan ojek motor, sangat praktis Proses panen bisa dilakukan dalam beberapa jam saja...

    • @tribertuspayung9489
      @tribertuspayung9489 Год назад +2

      Kebanyakan orang Toraja tdk menjual padi, tapi untuk dikonsumsi pribadi dan kalau panenya banyak akan disimpan di lumbung padi (Alang).
      Biasanya kalau tdk suka turun sawah pemiliknya menyewa orang untuk menggarap sawahnya...
      Saat ini Kebanyakan orang Toraja merantau

    • @om.gembul
      @om.gembul Год назад +3

      di tempat saya ( suatu desa di jawa ) alasannya masih manual dan tidak menggunakan mesin adalah untuk berbagi.
      1. siapapun boleh ikut memanen dengan pembagian hasil yg sudah di tetapkan ketika menjadi gabah, jadi tidak hanya keluarga saja yg memanen..tapi siapapun boleh ikut, hal ini di lakukan agar semua org di desa saat musim panen punya gabah untuk makan..
      2. cara memisahkan bulir padi tidak memakai mesin karena nantinya sisa2 yg masih tertinggal sedikit itu ada org2 tua yg memang sudah gak kuat ikut memanen akan mencari sisa2 bulir padi yg tersisa dan di kumpulkan mereka..biasanya dalam 1 sawah mereka paling banyak dapat beberapa kg saja.. tapi itu cukup buat mereka untuk makan nantinya.
      jadi intinya di tempat saya didesa itu masih tradisional tujuannya untuk berbagi kepada yg gak punya sawah..

    Hi guys, you said that you’d leave your guide’s info in the video description but I couldn’t find it. If I ever go back to Tana Toraja again I’d want to support Natalia because we don’t really see that many female guides around.
    Did you feel weird about visiting a dead person like that? I don’t know if I’d be able to do it. Not because I’m afraid, but because it feels like a taboo somehow. I did go to a funeral back when I was there, and even then I felt guilty because it felt like I was crashing in some stranger’s funeral. Although I’m sure the Torajans themselves don’t mind these things, it’s just me being me as someone from a different culture (still the same country, though).

    • @NataliesPassport
      @NataliesPassport  Год назад

      Both of our guides info is at the top of the description and in a pinned comment! The best way to contact Natalia is on Instagram @toraja_local_guide or on whatsapp at +6282292366937
      Mmmm honestly for me it felt more taboo to go to the funeral than it did to visit one of the dead people! Especially when we were able to talk to her son, they seemed really happy that we came to visit so it felt a lot more welcoming 😊
