If they were brown, Shady lose, Shady sits on the shelf" - just the sheer creativity and rhyme scheme of stating something so simple. I love how every part of the composition of this song is such an “in your face” vibe. And Eminem’s lyrics drive it home so much.
My father was a musician. He gave me my voice, and my passion for writing and performing. But he always hated rap. Couldn’t stand it.
When I was a kid we’d go back and forth repeating tongue twisters. And I think that’s the reason I fell in love with rap music today. Ironically it makes me feel so much closer to my dad. And I eventually convinced him to listen to at least some artists.

Em has always been aware. Its why he’s so much more political and willing to stand up for the culture and community it gave him a new life just like anyone else who survived. his rhymes are so much more meaningful than 75% of guys minimum
It’s everyone else who’s black and not as good as him who are salty and you’re one of the reactors willing to call that out. So much respect to you that even discovering the depth of Eminem later than everyone else can see that. When I was young I knew rap was there and I acknowledged that it sounded good when I would hear it in passing but I just rarely heard it around so I never got into it. Back then it wasnt as easy to find music unless you went to the store to buy it, and rap wasnt in the stores where I'm from. But then em came along and at first he was just another rapper and it didnt really registere. But then he started appearing on tv and radio shows were talking about him. Magazines and news papers. I remember my mom hated him. Didnt like us seeing him and never let us listen. But he was everywhere all of my friends had his CDs and through that I feel in love with his music. He started my rebellious stage. I would sneak of to get his newest cds and have headphones so she couldnt hear what I was jamming to. And he opened me up to rap as a whole. I started listening to NWA snoop dr dre. I started following different beefs and listening to disses. It was wild watching it unfold then to hear it now takes me back

i can personally say as a 28 year old white female this is a very true song. i remember how we never listened to rap. pop, rock and country was it. 2000s was when alot more black artists became popular in the pop/hip hop that we heard on the radios all the time but when eminem came out he influenced my generation so much to flaunt being different. be accepting of others. it stopped the old stereotype that my parents and grandparents expected of us as behavior and goals and morals of life and society. its crazy how an artist can switch so much up without being some bigwig in an office telling us who to be.
