As a puff player, There are not many guides on how to play her but instead a lot on how to beat her. Still loved the video and found it useful though. Always happy to see another person pick up puff for the same reason I did.
I strongly agree, its a shame that channels like this often forget about Puff players, despite making tons of videos applicable to the other top 5 characters.
IMO, it’s because there isn’t many tangible improvements that new Puff players can make other than 1/2 hit rest confirms. A lot of the mileage someone is going to get in terms of improvement is in neutral, which is really hard to teach in a way that’s helpful, simple, and concise.
egg spam works if they arent constantly spamming bair but when they do that they become predictable with their airials (cuz theyre spamming them). and also upsmash for catching landings since its invincible on the head and hits some platforms. also djc bair 1 to uair is a killer as well.
If you’re standing over puffs missed tech you can dash sh instant dair and it will cover getup, getup attack, and roll in the direction of your dash. Ginger does it all the time.
As a Marth player edge guarding Puff I think it's super important to remember that each jump gets her less height. If she has already spent her first 2 jumps it's almost impossible for her to approach from below and it's hard for her to go over you.
But Kiraaa 😭 Lmaoo jk there’s not much I despise more than Hbox stagnating the meta and I appreciate videos like this a lot. Personally I love fighting players that get Puff, that win feels so much more earned.
Great video! I think it's good that now the anti-puff meta is actually being developed, as opposed to people just whining about it. I'm kind of curious as to what your opinion on Puff/Peach is? Is it really as bad as people say, or is it just that most Peach players lack experience in the mu?
I'm nowhere close to being an expert in this matchup but I think if Puff focuses on ONLY whiff-punishing Peach then Puff wins easily. However that requires having a lead, and also allows Peach to pull turnips pretty freely (in order to interrupt them you have to be putting pressure and be willing to drift fully towards her). Usually it's not too hard to get that lead but most people don't play that disciplined so if there was a Peach who did then it could be really close. Even if all the Peach did was threaten to pull turnips in order to bait the Puff into approaching the matchup could be a lot closer to even (since Puff can't really risk Peach pulling a stitchface which she will eventually if Puff ONLY whiff punishes). In the end tho Puff has the advantage, even if it's only slight.
Aw I’m glad you’re back on the playing field. Having a hand injury sounds horrible to deal with. I’ve been considering picking up puff so now I know what to avoid lmao. Would you consider using a box controller to get back to tech heavy characters?
Ik this was a few days ago n shit but as a doc main I wanted 2 say fh dair on puff does alot esp if u know when the puff will jump puff has to land eventually and if she lands with a bair theres a little window where you can dash in and sh fair the landing bair, cause of the way docs hurtbox shifts before the fair hitbox comes out, theres also hes dthrow fair, cc is good against moves that arent bair (nair), pill a fuckton, whenever puff is below stage camping at ledge or whever doing a run off nair is really good because of docs uNiQuE nair.

Tips don't help. I've been trying to play competitively for quite a while. First local was about a decade ago. I still suck and go like 1-2. Some people just don't have the skill to improve even with 1000s of hours of focused practice and watching videos. I know what I'm supposed to do but I'm physically too slow with my reactions to be able to execute. Reaction time can only be trained to a certain extent. @@ballertheking1038 it doesn't matter what character I'm using, my reactions are too slow. Physically I can not react quicker. There's way too much info for me to post in a single youtube comment but I don't believe this is true at all. Reaction time is absolutely affected by expectations, priming, training, visual cues, etc. There is also no scientific evidence of reaction time deteriorating up to 30 years old at the very least (so it probably doesn't start deteriorating until much later in life). There's also studies showing that chess masters have better memory retention than low level players, but only for positions that are actually possible in-game. For completely randomized positions, their memory is about the same, meaning that their training and practice was what increased their retention, not their natural born memory.
Kira, maybe you’ve already addressed this and maybe more than once, but what about switching to a B0XX? Seems like they’re kind of meant for cases like yours.

Here's how you win with puff: psychologically wear your opponent down while existing safely in neutral by jumping around and bairing

Sometimes when I play against a Puff on Slippi, I just go straight Roy just to get that CC reverse Blazer to KO Puff (not on Dreamland though)
