I know I'm the only one, but I was and am a huge Dan Quayle fan...and I love this speech. He seems to predict the 1994 Republican Congressional revolution. Was proud to cast my first vote for Bush-Quayle in 92 as a 19yr old. Just a shame I never had the opportunity to vote for him on the top of a national ticket.
Dan Quayle sounds much more fury and articulate than he was 4 years earlier! Notice he barely reads his speech even though he’s got the draft of it in front of his eyes! The guy even does some self-deprecating humor by saying « _if_ [Gore and Clinton] _are moderates, then I’m a world-class speller_ »
Dan Quayle’s daughter Corrine has to have the best private life of any kid in post political life. Their sons were in politics in Arizona but she must have hated politics and after her dad retired and left office as his term ended she has stayed out of public life for over 30 years. I will give her that credit and I hope she is happy with her family. I will say she was a cute girl then in the 90s.
There is absolutely no doubt that Dan Quayle had always been 'way in over his head,' and his acceptance speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston, TX was proof positive of this. indeed, Quayle's attack on Murphy Brown made him look so profoundly asinine. Thankfully, both George H. W. Bush and Dan Quayle got their asses whipped back in November 1992. Boy was i so glad that the Republicans' rendition of 'family values' backfired spectacularly on them.
@@stevendrumm4957 For Quayle to have evolved into a 'cultural warrior' during the 1992 presidential campaign was more than i was ever willing to stomach. Of course, i voted for then-AR Gov. William J. Clinton after being revulsed over Patrick J. Buchanan's infamous 'An Ode to a Culture War' speech. As a matter of fact, i once tried to be a moderate Republican: (1) fiscally conservative; (2) socially progressive; (3) ecologically conscious; and (4) prudently internationalist. The 'Council of (Economic) Competitiveness' was actually a shadowy 'back-door' that was designed to undermine meaningful health, safety, and envirnomental regulations that have long served the American populace well. Check out the URL to an interesting article on the cultural politics of Quayle and now-VP Pence. Obviously, i strongly disagreed with Quayle's assertion that sexual orientation is a 'choice.' mckinneylaw.iu.edu/ilr/pdf/vol52p69.pdf
@@albertcalleros9489 Um Dan Quayle was right about Murphy Brown. Single Motherhood and the out-of-wedlock birthrate that comes with it has been a scourge on the social fabric of our nation. Normalizing that as something irrelevant or even good is wrong. And for that matter Pat Buchanan was also right about the culture wars. Conservatives didn’t start it, liberals did.

You're not the only one, David. I-too-am a huge Dan Quayle fan! He did an EXCELLENT job as a House member; a Senator; and Vice-President!

"Bill Clinton and Al Gore say they are moderates. Well, if they're moderates, then I'm a world champion speller!"--Best line!

Where is he now?

I thought that Quayle gave a great speech here. But the media was in the Tank for Slick Will in 1992, which contributed to his win.
