Only downside is the main character has his time running out. That's why the original was so intriguing. He was young with a full runway ahead.

I actually found this a boring, formulaic film that was quite unbelievable in terms of Maverick's personality or development.

leap of controlling a situation: in base-jumping there are those who like to jump the eyes directed to the wall of the drop-off they are leaping off and there are those who won't do so... ...they are comfortable with leaping the eyes directed to the open space but they are left being at unease with the face - to - the - wall - thing... ..the physics eventually won't move them neither so overcoming this fear isn't an option to 'em... ...the first axiom according to Newton states that the direction of you leaping never ever changes ( provided there ain't any winds, but there are jumping points, where you can exclude this factor, as with others you can of course not... ) and so department physics jumping face to wall remains the same as the other direction and it turns out to be a mere psychological issue to go for it... ...those who do so are awarded with a very very special feeling as they are on their trajectory, as no matter how close you choose your distance off the wall to be... ...if you do everything right you won't end up in the wall...
