I had a R22 in 1981. Flew 5 years and 1000 hours and no problems Then a Bell 206 for a year then back back to the R22. I still love the R22 May, Frank rest in peace.
So much better when you narrate in a studio and not within the cockpit. Great video editing. Well done! :D
This video has been great to watch before beginning my flight training. Great job
Glad it's of value to you! :)
Thank you, this is by far best r22 startup informational video on youtube.
Excellent clear instruction. I learnt all this doing lessons in the R22 years ago but it’s now easier to learn first here than in a noisy cockpit.... and you can play it again without shouting “What??!!...”
Thank you. Great video which actually shows each item as you go through it. Now things make much more sense to me.
I’m hoping to take my first lesson at the end of the year and videos like this are extremely helpful.
Absolutely great video !! I have been looking for a concise way to study start up in between flights, so I can progress in my training. Although I'm just getting started, I'm loving every minute of training. Thank You NSHT !!
Our pleasure, CD! We're all about training efficiently and effectively, so we're glad to hear this will help you with your studies. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the simplicity and HD footage. Very clear, precise, and to the point.
best r22 startup video! nice and calm as you should do it every time. well done!!!
Thanks a lot for your feedback! :)
Well done, was just looking other vids and was looking for this “ zoom” views. Very well done. Clear, professional. Thank you.
Great video! For those of us flying in the US, your transponder is tuned to 1200 instead of 1500. :)
Really appreciate this video. Nice work.
Thanks! We aim to provide useful content so it's good to know it's of value to other flyers!
How much is hire rate with instructor?i have 25hours dual but have not flown for awhile.
Very good Detailed and Instructor very clear!
Well said.,. Me from india...thanks for gave us the basic tutorials....
I’m going to go steal one of these now
James Uphill Best of luck.
That is a pretty stupid thing to say post 911
I I learned to fly these in Bristow Academy in New Iberia Louisiana a few years ago. I admit, they are sensitive with the controls but its also the most reliable bird in its size. they are not bad once you get the hang of it. if you can fly these then you can fly any of them
@@davidmichaelc stop being so sensitve. There's more to the world than the US and not everyone are snowflakes.
@@bEEBO178 AGREE 100%
I got it working thanks to you
Great Video, Just started my R44 training, Excellent Start up video.
Thank you!!!! Needed it!
Best video Ive seen
Thanks Johnny! Glad it was helpful
I can fly R22 now
Well done! We have great instructors here at NSHT if you're looking to further your training
Noth Shore Helicopter Training thank you so much for these instructions. They are very good instructions which I haven ‘t find on any other you tube video
This was excellent
Thanks, Saud!
great video , who on earth ever thought that the throttle on a helicopter should work backwards , be tricky if you rode a bike to work as a pilot.
Seems to me like it's the same, actually. If you were able to turn in the seat and face the collective, you would roll the throttle forward to increase rpm just like you would on a bike. In both cases if you roll the throttle towards your knuckles you are gaining rpm, and if you roll the throttle towards your thumb you are losing rpm. Or maybe I'm missing something here?
@@rovers141 i think of it as towards you or away from you ,,, then again I think the foot pedals should work like a go cart and not like a tractor fiddle brake too ,, horses for courses I guess
Thanks for the video.
A Very complete video, Another about the R44 would be great
Great video
Wouldn't go up in an R22 if you paid me. Last time it ditched into a reservoir and I ended up swimming out.
Chickenshit!
Nice video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
best introduction vid to rotor wing. Thanks very much. I did my PPL in Hawkes Bay and East Coast back in 1988/89. Where are you guys based?
Question: how do the rotors turn immediately on engine start if the clutch is disengaged?
Really very interesting, i would like fly helicopter

Good vid
Wow great
Just read the buttons turn on,off accordingly start the engine and the helicopter will fly
this will work
10000000000000000000000%
very interesting check the abandoned Robinson r22 i saved. goal is to fire the engine and make it a Decor. still waiting for the court to finish so i can get the dashboard back from the thief
Who else came here just in case a zombie apocalypse happen and you wanna escape in a heli?
When you say D’s and P’s, I’m assuming the P stands for pressure, but what about the D?
P's and T's. Pressures and Temperatures.
Good...Congratuletion
2 hours later...
I have been flying the R22 for 34 years all the time without a Governor its no problem to me
I would love to know why you do many of those things.. Not just what you need to do.. That would help alot
Try to fly an helicopter with one of those controls wrong and you’ll get why
nice.
Why does the engine run at 104%?
I see that since the R22 uses a piston engine it requires a clutch to disengage the engine from the rotor while starting. Does a turbine engine need a clutch or is it always connected to the rotor?
ninemilliondollars Always start a turbine with the rotor brake on
Quanto é a hora de voo de instrução desse helicóptero r22
In game it starts less than 10 seconds
Thanks👌👌👍👍🙏🙏
Aah now I can use the helicopter sitting in my backyard
test low rpm at 104% with locked cyclics and governor off ... bravo
With all these technicalities, how fast can you possibly start it up?
The R22 is classed as a 'Light helicopter' - but even so, it is still a complex flying machine. As with all aircraft, pre startup checks, and engine start should always be completed methodically and carefully. You don't need a 'fast' startup.
Nice
Sir, this helicopter civilians can be play without pilot?
Not sure if play is the right word at the beginning, but you can take classes and be up in the sky right from day one
Great
we start with seatbelts. its hard to try to learn on my own when everyone on youtube skips steps.
like, your process doesn't align with my study material at all.
Instructions unclear, I am now in the sky and I don't know how to fly, please send help
NICE
Cheers Anjaya!
Thankyou!so much.I am just trying to learn Flying principles & mechanisms of Helicopter.
Great! Good luck with that! We're available at North Shore Airport in NZ if you ever want to enroll in any of our courses
Let me try.
Spray clutch check at 75% !
Me asking ma dad a new helicopter after watching this video
Flight-for-Life pilot failed to check hydraulics when 2 feet above surface. Continued ascent, then discovered something was not working properly. Helicopter crashed. Pilot died. Flight nurse severely burned.
I would forget things or perform in wrong order. Would need check list.
Always use a check list in my opinion
Yeah, you are supposed to use a check list for preflight and starting. They probably use them at their school, just didn't show it. If the FAA ramp checks you and sees you are not using a checklist, you get in trouble.
I want to fly I'm so poor
Hawke and Dom would have been to Russia and back
This is auto start hai
unclear im an astronaut now
Hey Hey...you totally forgot the most important thing! You didn’t even check your light fluid! C’mon
Hindi language me
I don't know anything about helicopters but why is there a diesel engine in yours lol
Probably to keep down cost or weight or both since this is a small helicopter. Regarding the diesel engine on Robinson helicopters the engine runs around 2,500 rpm. It develops 200-300 HP at that low rpm because of such high torque (like a large truck that pulls a heavy load). And that HP is enough to fly the craft. :D
It's cheaper to fly. It's very common to fly R22s and R44s in flight school because it saves you money. And R44s are common to use post school because they cost less than a turbine and still seat 3 people plus the pilot.
Its not a diesel engine. They make 128 horse power, and 132 horse power for 5 minute maximum performance. The engine run on 100 octane low lead.
Crikey, I'll stick to my car. I'd rather crash than fall out the sky
Robinson 🙄☠️
And nz accent is no better than aussei and british
THAT IS WAY TOO MUCH THERE ARE EASIER VIDEOS OUT THERE
Sorry but, I will never fly in something that will kill me just because I moved to control wrong.
How to honk the horn helicopter mister?
Sad they use the same engine as my grandad used and still have carbs. What a joke!
😋 .. thank you for sharing.
