The latest craze in classical music is called "Yunchanism"! Absolutely Limarkable!
I'd normally feel jealous hearing someone close to my age perform in a major orchestra. But Lim is so great it sucked the jealousy out of me. I can't help but feel proud of him. He's a leading icon.
I’m listening to this spellbinding performance at 30,000ft, thanks to Malaysia Airlines’ free WiFi. What an absolutely amazing way to pass some of my 13 hour journey from Malaysia to London. Thank you all so much for this wonderful recording and a special thanks to Yunchan for his brilliant performance.

저희 부부는 기회가 닿아 17일 토요일 이 공연을 보며 즐길수 있었 습니다. 몇년만의 라이브 음악인지 무척 좋았습니다. 제작년 11월경 아리조나 스캇데일에서의 연주를 보려고 예약하고 4월의 연주를 기대하고 있었는데 갑자기 임윤찬 연주자가 귀가 아파서 취소되어 정말로 서운하고 아프다니 안타까웠 습니다. 이번엔 기필코 보리라 마음먹고 우리는 California, Los Angeles에서 출발하여 기어코 보고 왔는데 이렇게 저희가 본 공연을 올려주어서 뭐라고 감사드려야 할지 모르겠습니다. 진심으로 감사드리며 그날의 연주를 깊이 간직하겠 습니다.
The CASTA DIVA encore sent chills down my spine. I didn't even know the aria has been transcribed to piano...but it was just as lyrical and touching as the vocal rendition, especially that of Monserrat Caballe's.
The Chopin encore is exquisite.
I went to see him on Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th. His performance on the last day was out of this world. Everything seemed to just fall perfectly into place. You could feel Yunchan’s passion in the atmosphere of the hall, as I’m sure it must’ve been a great emotional moment and relief for Yunchan, as it was his final day with the BSO - having performed three Rach3’s the previous three days. The last movement was just breathtaking and in that moment listening to it, I could sense that I was witnessing something special.
I want to see him so badly at Carnegie in NYC. So hard to get a seat. One can buy a subscription of 4 of which he is one concerts. Doing the Rach 3 with London Philharmonic. Being a pianist I want to see his hands. If not buying a subscription, and I have to wait till Aug 5 to do that, one can also become a "friend" of Carnegie for $100 and get early access to tickets but still pay the going rate for the ticket. How did you get your ticket? Where did you sit? It sounds wonderful. Ive been listening to him playing this recording since I discovered it here on You Tube 35 minutes ago! :)❤
@@bryonsom Sounds like you’ve been bitten by the Yunchan bug as well! It was truly incredible and so worth it. I bought the tickets almost a year in advance from the BSO venue website itself, so I’m not really familiar with any ticket reseller websites, but there’s always a ticket out there somewhere. The tickets themselves were around $140, depending on where you sat. On the first night we sat on the 2nd balcony section, center view. It was a bit far away but you could see the whole orchestra and the full scale of the grandiose Boston Symphony Hall. On the last night we sat up close in the orchestra section, center row, center view. I much more preferred sitting here, as I could see Yunchan’s expression, his hands, and I felt way more connected to the orchestra as a whole. Whereas on the balcony it felt more like I was spectating, and a bit disconnected. This is of course only my personal opinion, however if you especially want to see his hands I can highly recommend getting seats close to him, preferably in the center of the hall (for sound quality, although if never been to Carnegie hall, so I’m not sure how it sounds). I found the sound quality also to be much better up close, as you could hear the color of the piano better. Hope this helps and good luck! The wait no matter how long, is so so worth it.
I heard many many people in the stalls area in front of the piano cried on the last day. Everyone said that performance was phenomenal and was even better than the competition version with Marin Alsop. I can’t fathom what it must have been like to see that performance in person - you are so lucky!

The encore on Sunday 2/18 was also unique: Yunchan started with the second of Chopin’s Trois Nouvelles Etudes but, in place of its last measure, segued directly to Chopin’s Aeolian Harp etude (Op. 25, No. 1).

I was fortunate enough to attend this performance last Thursday, his first with the BSO. It is perhaps the most wonderful live concert I’ve ever experienced. Unforgettable. Bravo, Yunchan!

지난주 뉴욕에서 보스턴으로 날라가서 17, 18일 직관 했어요.. 정말 칼 바람부는 날씨에 이게 왠 고생이냐 싶었는데 직관 하고 정말 그 마음이 싹 사러졌어요. 저 뿐만 아니라 뉴욕, 뉴저지에서 많은 사람들이 오셨더라고요. 정말 그 많은 관객들이 숨죽이고 모두 임윤찬에게 초집중 하는걸 보며 정말 특별한 음악의 매력을 가진 사람이구나 하고 현장에서 느꼈습니다. 그날 중계된 라디오가 정말 좋은 추억으로 남아지겠네요. 감사합니다!
뉴욕서 한시간정도 걸리니까 많이 가셨겠네요..완전 부럽습니다... 왜 영상으로 제공되지않는지 아쉬운 점은 있지만은 레코딩이라도 전해지니 넘 좋습니다. 공연으로 끝내기엔 윤찬님 연주가 아깝죠...모든 공연이 다 영상화됐음 싶긴합니다.. 전 가끔 보면 다른 피아니스트와 다르게 오케스트라를 리드하는 모습도보니까 그 장면도 신나고 재밌습니다...
정말 많은 콩쿠르 우승자들을 봐왔지만 임윤차군은 특별해요... 제 생애 한번도 협주곡 3악장까지 가는게 이렇게 빨리 끝나서 돌려보고 또 돌려보고하는것도 처음였고요. 보니까 악보그대로 치지않는것도 있다해서놀랐습니다. 악보그대로 치지않아도 더 좋은 소리가 나면 한다는 그 열정

Y en cuanto a la miniatura de regalo que nos ha compartido, opino que algo tan bellamente interpretado solo podía salir de la inspiración, las manos y el alma de este prodigio musical llamado Yunchan Lim. Fue una verdadera delicia escucharlo.
This was a more assertive Rach 3 than Cliburn and very exciting to hear Yunchan's further development with it too. He still remains unselfish and very with the orchestra even so. The cadenza was incredibly brilliant. Thanks for the download.
This piano was far better suited to Yunchan's touch than any other I have heard him use to date. Thank you ? Steinway,.
@Catherinejones since I am a novice to this music , could I ask why YCL changed his tempo for this performance? I discovered Im Yun Chan in September 2023 by accident and he has changed my life. I absolutely love his interpretation of Rachminanov #3 with Marin Alsop and The Fort Worth symphony. Other than speed and tempo what else should I try to listen for? Personally I love the speed at which he performed his final performance in Ft. Worth winning the CLIBURN.
I love hearing each note and not being drowned out by the accompanying orchestra.
Should I listen to every recording to note the changes or choose to like only one version. This reminds me of which Rhapsody in Blue I like best.

@@marybegue5800Yunchan reinterprets the music he plays each time he plays it, which is why it is never boring, always fresh and exciting. The tempo is different in many of the other great pianists' recordings of this work and Rachmaninoff, himself a pianist, played the work at breakneck speeds at times, But he would have anticipated other interpretations too. I guess if your personal taste is for the Cliburn tempi then stay with what gives you joy. > have listened to every recording of this work by Yunchan that is available on RUclips and I really appreciate the present version enormously- he gives new meaning and possibilities to the wonderful opus. Truely scary what he is capable of doing at such a young age. I hope he continues to perform and maintain a stable career like Argerich or Zimmerman. It would be unfortunate if he disappears like some other competition winners
He has said that the attention makes him uneasy, but unless he stops touring, I don’t think he’s going anywhere soon. If I recall, his album with DG is coming out soon, and if all goes well he will be recording for quite some time. Past winners like Haochen Zhang or Yekwon Sunwoo just didnt see the same immediate success

17일 조지아에서 보스턴까지 날아가 직관하였습니다. 제 인생에 몇 안되는 아름답고 임윤찬 연주자와 함께 aging 하는 50분이라 한 음 한 음이 지나가는게 벅차면서도 아쉬웠는데 이렇게 녹음본으로 복기할 수 있다니 좋네요! 현장에서는 자리때문인지 몰라도 현악기 소리가 공중에 떠다닌다는 느낌이 강했는데 오히려 녹음본에서 밸런스가 훨씬 더 잡힌 느낌입니다. 감사합니다!

He's such a solid, yet subtle musician. Everything flows naturally, is grounded, but not plain nor predictable. He really FEELS Russian music.

헐. 반클라이번때보다 훨씬 더 좋은데요. 너무 감사합니다. 공연장음향도 좋다고 들었는데 공연장도 다른거같고(한국공연장 음향들은 언제나 개선될런지..경헌상 보스턴공연장처럼 내부에 장식이 많으면 소리가 더 잘 울리긴하더군요.;;;;)금관악기가 다르네요. 영상으로도 보고픈데 너무 아쉬워요. 임윤찬씬 지휘자같은 포즈도 넘 좋아하는데 ㅋㅋ

반클라이번때보다확실히 좋은거같아요. 보스턴은 금관이 좀 강한가?라흐마니노프가 이렇게 장대하고 아름답고 격정적인 곡인지 ...뭐라고 말하기 힘들지만 다른 연주자들과는 달리 고양감을 일으키는 그런 타고난 능력도 있는거같아요. 가끔 리스트의 환생인가싶기도하고요ㅋㅋㅋ

정말 직관가보고싶어서 예매 해보려 했는데... 타국으로 공연보러 간적이 없어서 시간만 쓰고 예매 도전도 제대로 못해봤네요 ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ 성공하면 한국에서 미국 관광도 하고 공연보고 와야지 했던 꿈이 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 쉽게 떠나가버렸고 너무나 아쉬워서 매일을 검색해서 혹시나 영상으로 뜬거없나 찾으며... 콩쿨 영상만 무한 재생하다가 며칠전부터 2개의 라흐 음악영상이 업로드되어(같은 공연) 콩쿨과 또다른 맛을 느끼네요
한국 예매는 고인물들의 속도를 도저히 잡을수가 없고. 해외예매... 방법도 기간도 접근성이 처참... 하... 가르쳐주실분 계시다면 팁좀 배우고 싶습니다... 올해 9월엔가 라흐공연 있던데ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

모든 순간이 좋은 연주네요! 반클라이번 때보다 업그레이드가 된 느낌입니다. 특히 3악장 시작부분...! 이 부분을 이렇게 밀당하며 연주하다니요! 정말 날이 갈수록 깊어지고 있음을 느끼게 됩니다!

1.Bellini 가 1831년 작곡한 Norma 라는 오페라가 있습니다. 그 오페라에 포함된 아리아중
Casta Diva 라는 아리아 입니다(Casta Diva = "정결한 여신",또는 " 정결한 여신이여").
이 아리아를 성악으로 들어도 아름다운데,피아노용으로 편곡된 것을,P니스트 임윤찬이
목소리 못지않게, 아름답게 연주 해 내었습니다.
성악가 마리아 칼라스를 아시죠? 마리아 칼라스가 이 곡을 구성지게 불러서 많은 팬들이
기억합니다.
2.여담으로,작곡당시 이 곡을 제대로 소화 해 내는 소프라노가 없었다고 합니다.
- 마리아 칼라스가 이 아리아를 그리고 부른 성악가로 알려져 있으며,
- 우리나라 S 조 수미도 이 곡을 소화 해 내는 소프라노이죠?

속도는 느린 선율부분은 좀더 시간을 할애해서 더 자유롭고 우아한 느낌이 들어요!

처절하다
흠 다 개인 취향이겠지만 전 반클라이번 때가 더 좋네요ㅜ 임윤찬만 했던 특정 표현들되게 좋아했는데... 이 연주는 구냥 다른 연주자들이 하던 느낌 그대로 같아서 아쉬운 맴이네요 ㅎ
피아노전공자 입장에서 보면, 이번 오시아버전 라흐3이 반클보다는 훨씬 자유롭고 웅장한 연주로 들립니다. 반클은 콩쿨이다 보니 악보대로 미스터치없이 치는데 집중.

윤찬은 매번 다르케 치는걸 좋아해요. 반클 연주는 다시는 라이브로 못 들어요.
반클버전을 너무나 사랑하는 사람으로써 뭐가 더 낫다고 평가하는건 의미가 없는거 같아요 기계가 아니기 때문에 그때와 똑같이 칠수도 없을뿐더러 음악적으로 잘은 모르지만 점점더 성숙해지는 연주라는 생각이 듭니다. 유튜브에 반클버전과 보스턴버전 비교분석 하는게 있던데 한번 보시면 도움 되실꺼에요~
Wild tempo changes were very distracting. Phrasing could have been better. More coherence.
열정을 느끼겠으나 음악의 강약이나 빠름과 느림의 조절 등 빠진듯 해서 뭔가 마음의 울림을 못 느끼는데 …😅 다들 너무들 좋아하니 뭔가 내가 놓치는 것이 있나 싶어요. 😂
반클라이번 때 보여줬던 임윤찬님만의 interpretation과 articulation이 더 좋았던 1인입니다…😅

예전 연주하고 좀 바뀐듯.
그리고 녹음 때문인지 아니면 홀 영향인지 음색이 고음부는 강조되고 저음부는 많이 약하게 들리네요.
그리고 중간 중간 소리가 뭉게지는 것 같아서 들으면서 뭔가 억울.
오케스트라는 탄탄해서 좋았는데 이런저런 이유로 직관해서 들은 사람들이 마냥 부러웠던 연주
전공자입장에서 보면, 왼손저음부가 상당히 강조된 연주인데 악보를 보면서 자세히 한번 들어보시길~ (아마 라디오방송때문인지) 속도는 늦추고 악보대로 뭉개지는 음없이 쳤어요.
Ending was rushed and fell apart ☹️
