    My thoughts exactly when I first saw the Moon range, so refreshing to see a maker produce something a little more special/individual for a signature range. For me as much as I like the five-string I do prefer the blue without all the electrics. Great review as always Thank you 🙂👍🤟

    Wasn’t sure how good it would sound acoustically with it being so thin but it seems decent. You have to hand it to Enya. They keep innovating, making us all want another Uke. Am hoping they bring out an affordable 8 string like the Klos carbon model and some baritones. Great review Baz.

    “Taimane” means “diamond” in Samoan (Taimane’s ethnicity), so the name has double meaning. I wish it was available without pickup so I could add my own Mi-Si Acoustic Trio to it. The pickup provided seems too gimmicky to me.

    Cracker! Other than the on-board tuner🧐, looks awesome. I suppose it can be strung high & low G to give that 8-string, more homogenised sound (or provide you with a high G for picking patterns too🤔). Ended up buying the Tanglewood concert Banjolele for my Xmas (I suspect this is the same Banjolele (different headstock pattern) that Kala have stopped selling). The back can be removed to give a less punchy sound. Factory strings were hideous! They couldn’t even carry ‘hammer-ons’😵‍💫😬, plus they were so thick they were sticking in the nut grooves!! Quick swap to some Wurth fluorocarbons and I’m back in love with it🪕😊👍. Nice review, lovely product🇬🇧🎥👍

  • @SongOfItself

    From personal experience: 5- (and more) stringed ukes *may* be harder to play, it depends on the player. My 47-year-old hands were fine for most ukes, I could play clean and fairly fast (not Taimane-fast obviously, but I manage). But when I ordered a 5-string Kala once, it was the only uke I've ever had to return. Exerting enough pressure on the doubled G string was just too much for me. (And no, I can't play a steel-stringed acoustic guitar anymore, either). Now when I see people playing 12-string guitars, I wonder what kind of Hulk hands they have, it's superhuman. Try before you buy!
    But oh wow, I would love a solid-block mahogany uke! It's my favorite wood, and unfortunately my Martin all-mahogany guitar is only gathering dust now.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Год назад +2

      To be honest with you - I kind of contradicted my own statement - as my technique caused a bit of buzz in places! Not a fault of the uke, more my fretting and string attack.
      Check out the four string - also - check out the ukes made by Pete Mai at Bonanza - he makes a similar concept out of whatever wood you would like!

    Hi. I am an elementary music teacher, and I use the ukulele a lot. I’m wondering if you could help me make a decision. I really like this ukulele, but I’m also interested in the bonanza Homestead baritone, and the Koaloha Opio tenor. If you could get one, is there a clear winner? • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Год назад +1

      I do get asked this sort of question a lot, but actually have a policy of not giving recommendations.

Not me trying to be difficult, it’s just that it’s really subjective and different for everyone - we all hear and play differently, but also people have their own preferences on looks, scales, features, decoration etc.
      To make things harder - i'm not sure those three are fair to compare - all VERY different in construction.
      The Opio is probably the highest end though

    It's a fascinating instrument. I knew Taimane played the five-string, but I never imagined the fourth course were unisons. As for the routed-out body, I never saw a ukulele built that way. Gibson used routed-out bodies for the Pat Martino signature model as well as the ES-336 and 356 guitars, and Orville Gibson used the style on mandolins 100+ years ago. My guess is it may work best plugged in, although it sounded good as you demonstrated it. The body design probably helps with sustain also. I've learned from you to expect good fit and finish, and innovation from Enya. Its appearance suggests a powerful simplicity. It looks fairly priced and a good value. Thanks for reviewing it.

    I was at a Taimane concert, and one of those G strings broke. She removed it and continued. Amazon has five versions of that uke, starting at $399.99 - four-string, five-string, with and without electronics.

    I like what they did here. My favorite part is that they didn't change the price just because it has her name on it. I wouldn't buy one (yet, lol) because the 5 string I play is a baritone but I am gonna put 2 low g's on it instead of a high and a low because I bet it's gonna sound great.

      I do know what you are getting at, but then that is exactly the style of tuning that Taimane plays herself (and certainly not for me to claim her sound is not up to scratch!) - so I guess it was always going to be a double low G for a Taimane signature instrument.
      For me I think it improves on the Enya Feather which, as much as I liked it, didn't really sound like a tenor at all.

  • @jamesanderson1135
    @jamesanderson1135 Год назад

    I remember a few years ago I bought my first Enya ukulele, it was a M6 tenor. And I was so excited to have it. Then less than a year after I ended up giving it to the thrift store along with some old clothes. because I went from loving enya to not caring about enya at all. I do Iike Tiamane, but her signature uke does not impress me. But atleast it's better than those Billy Elish signature Fender ukes.

    Just got one of these. Sounded too thin and felt disappointed. I changed the strings out to Worth Brown. I didn't have 2 low Gs, so i put one high/one low. It's a much better sound now.
    Probably wont be my favorite to play, but it's different enough to put in rotation.
    Other notes: the instrument is pretty heavy, surprised by how thick the body seems to be. The strap is really nice, but the bag is barely above a basic freebie.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Год назад

      Can't think why they'd make a Taimane signature without two low G's considering that's what she plays and specced it.

    • @ericsinchina
      @ericsinchina Год назад

      @GotAUkulele yeah, I still would have put two low G if I had another one. Point was that the stock strings need to be changed.

    double low g is unnecessary... thank you for the review 🙏ruclips.net/user/shorts6tdaISXrx9g?feature=share

      The double low G is because that is precisely what Taimane plays - would be odd to not copy her own style seeing as it's her signature uke!
