Every time Eva and I travel to Rome, she shows me around and picks what we eat. Makes sense, right? After all, Eva used to live in the Eternal City and has never led me astray thus far.
However, this time we're switching things up! I've been doing my research and I have some bucket list Roman foods that I want to try. But I'm not if she'll be super jazzed about all of my choices...

Have you ever been to Rome? If you were to go, what's on your food bucket list?
Cacio e pepe definitely. Also tiramisu, maritozzi, anything with pistachio.
The little fried carciofini with lemon; grattachecha at some place at night; basically any kind of fish preparation; also everything else
I won't lie I was kinda hoping to see you take Eva to "Cencio la Parolaccia" just to see her reaction... lol
Definitely _need_ that crazy gelato! Grazie, A & H!
Ho abitato a Roma 28 anni fa.
My English partner didn't understand Eva's reaction to the last meal featured in this video. I told him 'It's like going to a restaurant and paying 20 quid for beans on toast'. His reply: 'Well, you pay for the experience I guess'. Me: 'An experience you can have for half of the price at home'.
In italy eating pasta in a restaurant isnt cheap. Pizza, YES. 5 to 10 euros you get a pizza and a coke, or a beer..
but, for pasta in Italy you pay 15 euro.. now, most italians know how to make Pasta at home. and it will cost 15 euro to feed 6 people for dinner.
so let's say they paid 30 Euros for pastas... Im pretty sure both of them could make the same dish at home.
so, in conclusion your partner is right, you go out for dinner for the event. you pay for the experience. eating at home for a 3rd of the price is a different experience.
In Japan my wife is the same way about Japanese curry restaurants, we could make a gigantic pot of curry that would feed 15+ people for how much you would pay to feed 3 people. And usually the curry at home is equal or slightly better.
In England you can pretty much only eat pasta at most Italian restaurants, it used to drive my mum mad as she remembers when it wasn't like that, there are many fine Italian dishes sans pasta, just you wouldn't know that going to any chain type restaurants. So go to family owned establishments I suppose is the answer. What the answer is to most English people consistently eating the same bloody thing and not being more adventurous thus making choice better for everyone is beyond me, can't undo many years of food habits
Yeah paying 24 euros for a burro and Parmigiano dish is kinda silly, Eva is right. You do have to admit though that having the waiter do the mantecatura right in front of you and then serving it directly and right away has a certain charm
I found it a bit strange that one guest gets a nice served plate while the other practically gets the "pan" xD
I suggest to buy 24 euros of your favorite parmesano reggiano and make it at home Eva's way! And save the rest of the cheese for other pasta grammar dishes...
@@7hkey Hehee... Actually if you get the nice plate you have drawn the short straw, believe me
@@reaprendiendosiempre I'm Italian, I do that basically everyday. One thing that can never be missing in my fridge is my slice of 30 mesi (best Parmigiano seasoning imo, both for consuption and general use)
The Italian waiter is the equivalent to the Japanese Hibachi
8:49 The man dealing with stringy cheese is the best promo for supplì 😄
4:10 Actually, the “panna” you’re referring to is the exception: the emulsion with milk and oil is what we call “panna da cucina”, we use it for sauces and such and it’s made that way just sometimes. Most of the times it’s actual cream! And the one that gets whipped and used in pastries is always heavy whipping cream, just like in America. I don’t know why Eva told you that it wasn’t heavy cream because I’m pretty sure she knows! We probably just have a lower fat percentage than the American one
Yeah I was confused by the maritozzo not being filled with real cream I wouldn't imagine they'd use mock cream (a margarine concoction) as they often do in pastries and cakes in Australia - hate that stuff.
@@petraliverani1247 Plus, its practically impossible to whip cooking "panna". Maybe if it's somehow stabilized with gelatin or something. Making it doubly fake. I always thought it was just lightly sweetened real cream too.
Yeah, they've said this in previous videos and I always come straight to the comments for reassurance that it's not the case (so thank you for that). 😃👍
Date night in Rome, doesnt get much better than this especially with Eva and Harper as our hosts!
Pure gold. Comedy, new food ideas, history...we love Pasta Grammar.
Not Rome, but we just arrived home from five weeks in Tuscany and the Veneto. We have spent a total of nine weeks there in the past nine months. How to describe it? An assault on the senses. An extremely nice one. We have been travelling there over the past 17 years and every day spent there is an adventure.
I love your videos. Thank you for each and every one of them. When I am not in Italy, YOU are my Italy online. Love to you both.
Holy cow. Congratulations on the cookbook. I will order 5 copies now for friends and family Christmas gifts. It is the perfect present that will keep on giving each time they try and enjoy your delicious recipes. Bravo Harper & Eva!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Harper, although I appreciate your effort of bringing Eva to the place where the Alfredo dish started, this restaurant was sold to people outside of the De Lelio family in 1943. The good news is that he opened a new ristorante in 1950 that is still open on Piazza Augusto Imperatore that is still open... gold forks and with all the history of celebrities and world leaders having eaten there. Il Vero Alfredo.
As usual, we loved the video! Ciao!
I immediately thought of Roman Holiday as soon as Harper said it was a non-food tradition.
I was half expecting Harper to be the Chef at Alfredo's😂😅😅
Eva's expressions were simply priceless lol
Maritozzi!!!! Love them! They are easier to eat by splitting them in half lengthwise then using pieces of the brioche to scoop up the panna like Eva did.
I love Eva’s reaction! I thought of my mother eating a plate of Fettuccini Alfredo at a fancy Italian restaurant that her friends made her go to just to eat it! And when it was served she said “ you pay $20 for this! This is what my mother makes the day before payday when there’s no more food in the house!” 😂 I had a good laugh! I always knew payday and great meals were coming soon when this food was served! 😂
10:26.. Eva's reaction when she realized she wouldn't be able to choose her gelato flavor.
I absolutely loved this video. Thank you, Harper and Eva. I want to get on a plane right now. Gosh I miss Italy so much❤
This reminds me of visiting my little haunts in Paris.
Your sense of humor makes this adorable. Greetings from Nashville, TN!
I have been to Rome once before back in 2013. I was backpacking across Europe at the time. When I was in Rome I made the spots I had to hit based off of what Anthony Bourdain recommended.
I've been fixing spaghetti with butter, parm, and salt since I was a child. My own children think it odd. I think it's delicious!
Fun! Now, we need the list of places and foods to eat that Eva happily said at the end! Cookbook pre-ordered ❤
Yes please! Or another video with you two going there 😊
omg that opening shot is breathtaking
Love the 6/10 ❤ Eva is a genius! Enough to feel good about himself and room to grow for a second go around! 😂 Would love to see round 2 of Harper’s surprise Roman picks for the day. 💯❤️😊
My favorite morning bar was right by Largo del Torre Argentina. Nothing fancy, delicious slightly lemony cornetti. Now there’s a huge new museum there that looks awesome but when I first saw it you just looked down on the cats.
I spent many a summers in Italy in my youth in the 70’s and 80’s and as a fellow hater of whipped cream, I sympathized with Eva. Also, the entire time as the day was moving along I kept on saying to myself…come on Harper, choose Alfredo! I am well aware that it’s a tourist trap, but still…it’s a rite of passage and it’s still pretty damn good. When I have my family from Italy visit me in NY, I know that I will have to do some touristy things with them and I grit my teeth and deal with it, just like Eva did. Great video as always!
Thank you for taking all of us on your Rome eating adventure. I probably will never visit Italy. However, I enjoy watching all of your videos. When my husband first introduced me to your channel, I started watching, then binge watched going backwards to the very first video you uploaded. I've seen everyone.
💖
Just pre ordered the book ten minutes ago . Long way till Sept 17th . It's a Fathers day gift to myself . And a new guitar because the book wasn't enough . And I am a great Father so I deserve it lol
Am I the only one who sits at RUclips at 8:59am EST to wait for the next video to drop? I still miss the Wednesday videos too..
Every Sunday I wake up and immediately look for the PG video, lolol

Never. These are boring people. No kids no family just mangia mangia. Boring. The mop hair lady. Shes got to go 😂😂
🤚 Me!!!
Siete in Italia? ;)
Grázie! 😘 Arribo súbito!
mamma mia, so many good memories of my stay in Rome eons ago. thanks for the memories.
Finally someone who holds the wine glass properly - by the stem
Nice change-up of format, lots of fun
Thank you for taking me back to my most favorite city in the world. You made my Sunday!!!! Grazie
I would imagine that going to Alfredo's would be the equivalent of Eva being excited about going to get cold cereal! LOL Thank you for the fun tour.
But I believe that apart from foreign tourists who enter that restaurant out of curiosity and because it is the place where the famous Fettuccine Alfredo are born, no Italian, no Roman goes to pay 24 € (!) to eat some pasta with butter and parmigiano reggiano, a dish he can make anytime at home in 10 minutes. Usually an Italian who goes to a restaurant does not go to eat some pasta with butter and parmesan cheese. Let's say it is not the "classic dish" that one orders in a restaurant. Of course there is no question that it is a delicious dish, like most simple Italian dishes that with only two ingredients you get a super delicious dish .
Thank you for your amazing tour of Rome🌹
That last eatery… beautifully set table with nice silverware & linens, tables generously spaced, table side service. 👍 Bump yourself up a star!
Lucky ducks😊 been eating pasta with butter and cheese since I was very young and we fed it to my children and grandson. Although, when young we made it with pastina, and even now. The Best and soo easy😊 Great video, I wish I was there.🥰
I just made my first batch of the coffee liqueur from your limoncello video - it is so good! The fresh coffee flavour is outstanding! Thank you!
Roma is a magical place.
In Sicily I loved to start the morning with brioche with icecream. 😅
My maternal grandparents were both born in the village of Calascio, Abruzzo and I've been to Rome several times, once with my 4 siblings as part of our pilgrimage to Calascio to research our family tree. While in Rome we ate at a Sardinian restaurant that I would definitely go to again. I usually don't make detailed plans of where to go and what to do when I travel. I like surprises!
I am a home chef here in Texas. I’ve been watching you guys for a while now, love the quality content. Y’all are engaging and charming while teaching great , simple Italian cuisine. I just pre-ordered the book. Strong work ,keep it coming!
I hope you did a video on all the things Eva mentioned in the last 30 seconds!
Great video! I will have to try Suppli'. I'm an Arancini lover and looking forward to tasting the difference!
One of my best experiences in France was eating at a Japanese restaurant. It was pretty traditional Japanese, but you could see it was somewhat catered to the French palate. Obviously the french food we ate was amazing, but French food is not the only good food in France, so I thought it would be good to try something international while we were there. I REALLY wanted to try a Chinese place whose menu looked very different from American style Chinese food, but it was closed the day we had free to try it.
Your camera work is gorgeous, Harper (as is the subject matter ... Roma and glorious Eva)!
“De gustibus non est disputandum.” So true
Thank you for this video. It made me fondly remember (and miss) the one euro meal deal consisting of a cappuccino or coffee and a croissant that we used to have every morning at the café next to the hostel while in Rome as tourists a decade ago. Italian coffee and pastry tasted almost unbelievably good, especially for that price.
I know what I’m asking for this Christmas 😊
It's been almost 2 yrs since I last watched your channel. So many vids to binge watch. Bon appetito
I like your storytelling bits in this Mr.Filmmaker...and the day of eating!
That video was so fun! It brought back a lot of my Roman vacation memories. My parents brought me to La bocca de La vérita when I was about 9 and I was so scared to loose my hand! lol .
Love, love both of you and your banter! Love most foods, love trying new ones. I have been to Rome in early 70's. Food we had was wonderful but my tastes weren't very developed. Would love to go again. Thanks for being so kind to one another.
Pre ordered book
Look forward to it
But your videos provide great content
We arrived in Rome/Trastevere on Monday and we're staying very close to SuppliRoma and Otaleg, so we've been able to try both. Super good suggestions. We loved the suppli and our traditionally flavored gelatos from Otaleg.
After over a year of living here in Italy, I've noticed that Italians like doing the big brunch thing once in a while. Places like Brunch Republic in Padova and Treviso are packed on sundays.
Harper you did well!!! having lived in Rome half my life I know all those places. You did well and so good on the food YUM!!! i miss so many of those places. i can at least go back to Italy proper when I watch your channel :) THANKS!!
I just ordered y'all cookbook, I wanted to learn how to fix Italian food and try Italian food. Now I learn how to fix Italian food from your cookbook.
I feel, a bit, like a third wheel on this bicycle. What a lovely way to spend the day. Thank You for sharing it with us. ❤
You two are the most adorable couple on the planet. Thank you for you both. ❤️🥰😘😍❤️🥰😘😍
I love you two! I’ve only been to Italy twice, and this video demonstrated so many of the things I love about it-especially Rome. The food, the colours, the food, the architecture, the food, the language… oh and did I mention the food?!?!? I’ll definitely be looking to get your cookbook. Thanks for another great video!
My stay in rome was horrible. Was there with my then girlfriends family and her dad kept picking the worst tourist trap ‘restaurants’ to eat at. I remember they had an asterix on the menu saying the food wasn’t cooked there only reheated and I brought that up but nobody cared!! The tourist food in rome SUCKS.
Oh that is horrible 😢
@@kristina1818 i felt like i was taking crazy pills. Why would you fly all the way to rome to eat microwaved food?!?
*asterisk
@@b1k2q34 oh yeah asterix is the french cartoon thanks
I’ve been to that Gelato place! In 2019 my kids were performing a series of concerts in Italy, and we went to Otaleg - they had an amazing basil gelato!
Great video Kids! I enjoyed 1:45 the music and the sights very much! It would be so wonderful to have a knowledgeable personal guide to show you just the best places.
I loved this, you guys are great. I have been following you since Lockdown and have seen all of your videos. Eva is now my point of reference for Italian cooking.
You guys were right up the street from our home! I'm happy to see y'all had a great time. Maritozzi are my favorite. 👌 Great choice
Love what you and your wife all about love you guys really appreciate what do like watching you guys have fun in life don't give up keep doing your best showing up for us love see more people like you good people
I was in Rome for the first time a few weeks ago and I saw none of that! Sad, I have to go back for more than 2 days.
😂 Ava at the end with her list of food she wants to eat reminds me of me.
I'm brand new to watching pasta grammar. I've watched about a dozen video's in the past few days.
Harper & Eva are such fun loving kids. I would like to ask though, is Eva a trained Chef? She is so good at what she does.
I remember my mother and grandmother cooking the way Eva does. My mothers side of the family was from the Rome area while my fathers side was from Napoli. I hope I am not asking a too personal question.
Buon Appetito!!!
This was a fun video to watch!
Grazie per il vostro lavoro!
My husband and I will be visiting Rome next month! I hope you can get into more details in a future video so we know which places are a must try. Thank you for the fun video! ❤
I love whipped cream! Made some yesterday for a pie made with “Philadelphia.”
Thanks so much for taking me to Rome today. :)
Harper you and Eva look super cute and happy! Have a blast in Rome! Love from CA on the beach!
@@TheDelem hai 15 anni?
@@fabiorossetto2826 ah scusa ...solo tu sei tuttologo

Harper, watching the two of you eating this is hilarious. I’m in my kitchen having a bagel, a lot less messy but not nearly as tasty I am sure. Enjoy!
Ehhhh I disagree. I will NEVER forget my first trip to Italy in 1985. After a tour, my Italian Dad and I went to his hometown where my Nonni were waiting for us. Then after a few days we drove down to Bari to visit a family friend's mom in Gioia del Colle. I will never forget her home, sleeping there and then breakfast. My 17 year old self. Home made (she was famous for it when she came to the US to visit and her daughter who lived down the block from us, too made it all the time)... Focaccia barese with sausages inside. Definitely Savory and I will never forget how good it was!!!!!!
Recently came across you guys. The content is really amazing and i really love the recepies.
One of the best italy related channels on the tube ❤
17:01 Paying 24 € (!) for a dish that one prepares at home in 10 minutes, with a little butter and parmigiano, one must perhaps really be a foreign tourist who enters out of curiosity in that restaurant where the famous Fettuccine Alfredo was born. I imagine that hardly a Roman, or an Italian in general, goes and pays 24 € for a plate of fettuccine butter and parmesan cheese. Honestly, despite of course the deliciousness of the dish, like most of many simple Italian dishes that with only two ingredients you get a super delicious dish, it is not that one goes to a restaurant to go and eat extra some pasta with butter and parmesan. Let's say it is not the "classic dish" that one orders being in a restaurant. Not to mention, as I have already said, the price of that dish (€24 for some pasta with a little butter and parmesan !!)

I like Giolitti near the Pantheon for gelato.
Yep it’s artichoke time
How good is the gelato at Otaleg? I was there 4 weeks ago, and it was amazing. The postacchio OMG to die for. Enjoy the food trip. I certainly did 👍 Ciao e Buon apetito 😋🇦🇺🇮🇹
Love your videos and look forward to your cook book.
Just glancing at the recipe you flashed quickly of Eva’s Suppli, I noticed she called for breadcrumbs. What kind? Plain, or Panko, because the Suppli you ate in Rome looks like it was coated in Panko and fried. Details make all the difference in a cookbook. Thanks for the Roman tour.
They don’t use panko, it’s just coarse bread crumbs. In the book, there’s a whole section on bread crumbs and which to use!
Isn't "panko" just the Japanese name for breadcrumbs?
Looks like a great day
It will be Eva's turn to take Harper to all the gas station cafes. See how he likes it.
The cook book is preordered. My son watched the video with me as we loved our stay in Rome last year and hope to back soon - and said right away „you need this book“. Guess he is right! Tomorrows dinner will be pasta all‘Alfredo.
Btw my children don’t like the cream on the brioche either. I think it’s the only good in Italy they didn’t eat 😊
Eva is so beautiful but more importantly I can tell shes a woman that would give you peace of mind brother god bless, dont ever let her go 🙏
I think if you guys opened an Italian restaurant in Ethiopia called “we’re genuinely really sorry” you could use Ethiopian wheat which is really great. It’s greater than Canadian wheat.
Love this video. On the Rome note a query. Found pinsa bases in a deli but due to journey length home they wouldn't last out of fridge
Has Eva a recipe?
I’m from the US and can’t help but agree. 24 Euros is a LOT. I’ve recently learned how amazing and magical pasta can be with simple ingredients right at home, thanks to RUclips channels such as this. But, I guess if you are a tourist just wanting to do homage to the “birthplace” of the dish you could justify it?
This is what we ate as kids especially when sick or broke.
This was fun! Have you been to Betto e Mary?
Being Catholic and Italian my mother would sometimes make buttered noodles or Spaghetti on meatless Fridays. it was just butter and noodles, never called it Alfredo. i thought Alfredo was actually made in the USA by an Italian and his name was Alfredo but his pasta had cream in it and butter is made out of milk cream. I enjoyed this video.
