This is excellent footage, and great to see the old-style rambling warren hole type offices that broadcasters used to inhabit in the 60s, 70s and 80s before the move into the huge, spacious and glitzy stainless steel and glass complexes of today. It has a sort of Lime Grove feel about it. Hot and crowded. I can almost smell the cigarette smoke. Wonderful stuff.
The late British monarch her majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a very down to earth person. Loved the way the late monarch was chatting and smiling with everyone. God bless the souls of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Long live King Charles III. Long live the British monarchy! ♥️👑🇬🇧. Posting from Nigeria 🇳🇬.
Yeah right. Get ready for a rude awakening. Do a search for 'red shoe symbolism', you'll know it when you find it.. Think 'Silence of the Lambs' but MUCH younger..
I do believe that is John Freeman from the original 1959-1962 Face to Face series at 5:16 in the lift and who met the Queen and Phillip from the car. Elusive man and a skilled interviewer, ex journalist, ex MP, ex army major, ex ambassador to the U.S, ex husband 3 times, ex this ex that etc etc...
That brought back some memories and not a PC in sight! How did they manage before BASYS? First inkling of the visit was the section of pavement just outside the steps having huge attention lavished on it and the smell of paint everywhere. Often wondered if the royals dread the smell of fresh paint every where they go?
Phillip chatting to the Oracle women whilst the bloke stones on. And then with Peter Sissons making jokes. All whilst the Queen is earnestly listening. They were a good cop bad cop team.
Well they watched the TV a lot too apparently, so it would be interesting for any TV viewer to see behind the scenes. I'd shake Alistair Burnett'shand any time lol. Very suave.

These visits were very entertaining for her. It was like going to the zoo and observing how normal people work and live.
Thanks for sharing. It’s great to see the early teletext pages being composed…
Loved teletext. 😊
Amazing archival footage.
This should have been one of your first videos to be released.

Yes, I noticed him too. President of ITN for 5 years before leaving in 1981, the year after this footage was recorded.
Love to see them making up the ORACLE news pages!
0:45 My guy type writing with one 1 finger on national television 😂
A Classic 😂
What an amazing Queen . ❤ so badly missed 😢
Pretty surreal to see her and Phillip shaking my grandfathers hand at 4:52.
What an absolutely amazing woman and Queen she was. I love these days indeed.
I miss her so much!!! 😢

As 1980 was during the transition between film and ENG video, you can see people working on both here.
Telephones and typewriters, I miss them so. 📞

Drones not stones*
Yes, I noticed the same thing. I think he had a bit of a reputation for wandering off.
@halloeverybodypeeps
Even then, there were suspicious drones around.
@@a.t.c.3862 I see what you did there, very good.
RIP TRH
I can smell the smoke.
❤
That gigantic ear piece of the phone 0:33
A normal phone for the time.
I know. I lived it. It amused me to see it.
I wonder if she was really that interested in it?
