Thanks for watching! If you have any questions, be sure to ask them in the comments below!
Freeze dried sweets are now go to hypo treatment. Big kid at heart. First one I had was a UK Black Jack licorice chew. It hooked me in. Introduced my kids to them. Big hit.
That sounds great. I love black licorice,!
Do you store them in the freezer or do leave them in the bag ? How long is short term storage?
I just tried freeze dried skittles, and why you'd want to make them, because they are friken amazing
Hahaa right!!
Skittles are good alone, but freeze-dried Skittles i can't get enough of....😂
Right!!
Hearing about giant Lucky charms literally made my teeth hurt lol
😂😂😂
I was watching this with captions on and it typed lady terms instead of lucky charms lol
@@madisonterry1241 haha that's funny!
I'm so screwed. I want that machine, but there's absolutely no way I could justify it :') Amazing video to see the process!
Haha I know it’s costly if you can’t justify the cost! We trip so often so have already gotten more than our money’s worth out of prepped tripping meals.
The price is ridiculous I agree but it’s Covid/inflation priced and it’s dumb to buy this unless you’re selling what you make…my daughter bought 2 bags of skittles 9$ a bag and never again lol.
what’s the name of this machine i want it !!!
When you get revenue from videos. It helps to pay for the fun stuff. Not haten. Just jealous I don’t have a machine. 😂
Just want one. But even if I had one. Town house only has so much storage.
Fun snacks!
wow 21 hours per 3 trays. kinda hard to start a small business this way awh
thank u for the video
Thanks for watching! We have a few machines so I’m assuming that If you had a few going it would work better. There are ways to get the 21 hours down slightly by pre-freezing stuff in your fridge and the equivalent to pre-heating the machine.
It looks like she got 28 marshmallow bunnies per tray. She freeze-dries them and I would say you get about 4 freeze-dried bunnies in a Mylar bag. Thats seven bags per tray times 3 trays equals 21. On Etsy they are averaging $5.00 per bag plus shipping. Thats over $100 per batch. I don't think thats too bad of a business. If you did that 5 days a week, not bad for a part time business. Of course you have to figure cost to make a bag.
@@jeffbelyea5172 Skittles go for about $28 to $35 a lb..Milk duds, Jolly ranchers..you could definitely make some extra cash.I would invest with a home scale and get a good shipper as well.I could sell this all day long to coworkers alone..
I like it!
I’m going to a convention in May that will have freeze dried skittles and jolly ranchers
My mom had those dishes!!!!!
Hi, Where did I get the gun sealer ?
Finally a video of freeze drying in a small Harvest Right. I am waiting for mine. Do you find the small gets done faster than your medium one? Thanks for sharing.
Hey! Thanks for watching! The smaller one is faster, and newer. So it’s more improved than the medium. You’ll love it! So many cool things you can make.
Can you please share your link for the Mylar bags and sealer? Great video! Thanks!
What machines are you using. Is a freeze dryer different from a dehydrator?
This is a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer, a freeze dryer freezes and pulls almost all the water out of something whereas a dehydrator heats it and pulls out some water. Freeze dried food is typically a lighter weight than dehydrated food
I love the
Skittles One
Interesting
I got freeze dried fruit roll up and they are soooooo good
Ou! We should try that next!
How to? There were no instructions on "how to". What were your settings? Did you customize it?
Hiya what’s the name of the machine please. If you don’t mind me asking. 😊
I didn’t realize it takes that long to freeze dry
Yup!! Not a quick process at all, but usually worth it in the end ☺️
And how expensive they are! $3,000 almost 4$,000 good god they are good but not worth the price and are super loud.
@lTheRealKJl you can buy the oiless pumps that aren't loud at all and if you buy a lot of freeze dried food these machines are beyond worth it. For 1 pound of freeze dried beef you'll pay $80
Skittles can be done in 30 minutes to an hour if you know the trick and same with marshmallows because they have little to no moisture. Strawberries have a tone of moisture so it takes much longer
😊 very nice 👍
Hi 😊how long did it take to freeze dry the candy ? Skittles and marshmallows? Thank you
20 hours
Thank you for sharing
Could this work with watermelon? I bet that would be awesome
It’s on our list to try although we haven’t seen that many super successful attempts. They are like 95% water 😂
@@WildCanoes yeah, that's why I was wondering.
The skittles look so yummy 😋. Good portaging treat. Would gummy worms work too? How does meat freeze dry compared to dehydrating? Does it reconstitute quicker.
Meat when freeze dried keeps the same shape and becomes super light. You let it soak in water to gain softness back and then cook it regularly! It does seem to reconstitute quieter to me. Super cool. Like you could freeze dry a hamburger, let it soak in water and re-fry it on day 10 of a canoe trip. It’s crazy what you can do haha. And oh my gosh! I need to see if gummy worms are possible! 😍
Is it better to cook the meat first or can you freeze dry raw meat?
Depends on the meat really but we prefer cooking it first. We camp a lot so it takes less fuel, we let it soak and then cook it.
Gummy worms freeze dry perfectly! They expend pretty big. I cut my gummy worms in half. When they come out, they are very brittle but taste AMAZING!
We went to a Christmas event similar to a home/garden show but with unique gifts and Xmas décor. There was a booth where a guy was selling freeze dried candy and one of his teen sons (not the one who came up with it) was handing out samples. Come to find out his pre-teen son had the idea for a school project and now they're running it as a side-hustle family business and it will pay for the majority of his college fees when it comes time. I'm trying to learn how to do this so I can make Xmas and Birthday gifts out of them.
What are you sealing the bags with?
It’s a bag sealer that came with harvest right (impulse sealer) but you can get them off Amazon :)
What is the difference between a regular cycle and a candy cycle please
What’s the name of the device you used to freeze dry your candy and fruit?! Let me know when you can please! 🙏🏾
Just found your channel, where did you get the food saver hand machine?
Amazon! :)
I wanted to freeze dry stuff so bad because it looks so good and I assumed the machine would be like $100-$150 because that seems reasonable but $2000 DOLLARS?!
Yeah that are crazy expensive!! We lucked out and got one used off of Kijiji - dehydrators are the cheap ones, freeze dryers are top notch
@@WildCanoes ok that's something I'll think about but yeah they're expensive
@@Alwayscatlikeis it better do to that compared to their website?
Forget the 2k...... 24 hours for such small batch .. thats a no for me
Haven't seen any more freeze drying videos - do you plan to make more?
Yeah I do plan to make more :) easier to release them in the winter when I’m not out camping every weekend lol
What's the machine that takes out air called? I'd really like one but I don't know where I can find it
It’s called a vacuum sealer to pull air out and then we use a bag sealer to close the bags :) Amazon has a ton
Can u pls put a link for the bags and the air gun thing
Could you send a link for the freeze drying machine?
Or maybe not the exact one but something you’d recommend?
I am very curious about freeze drying now, thank you!
Link for the machine is in the video description ☺️
Harvest Wright seems to be the best at home user friendly machine 😅
i have the exact same oven as u 😊 i loved you video
If want to remain it's texture, it is better freeze in one night then freeze dried
If we make a bunch of candy, how would we store them to last a long time? How long can the candy actually be stored for?
You’ll need a freeze drier to make it and then if stored properly and sealed with an oxygen packet than it should last for a few years!
Just grabbed a medium freezer for myself...what settings do you use for drying skittles?
Where u did fine it please I am looking for one
@@mrsrkitchen Google
Does the machine cost two grand+
@@hanginwithmrcooper103
So, when you take the strawberry out of the dryer, is it cold?
Not usually! It’s usually kind of room temperature, but they are dry so no moisture.
What is your machine called and where can I buy one? I want to make freeze dried candy.
Hi! What temperature did you freeze your treats on and how many hours did it take?
We use the factory setting for harvest right, I’m actually not sure what the temps were exactly! 😬
I know default temp changed at v5 to 125 and I've seen some talking about changing to v4 to have control of the plate temp. Hotter temps for harder candies. Im planning on testing the older software today. her unit is older so plate temp is probably is higher than the new 125 default on version 5 that cannot be modified.
How much is the machine
Quite a bit - couple grand, check fb marketplace and Kijiji tho. We bought both of ours used :)
Where can you buy the machine snd the cost.
What hand held sealer is that?
This one is off of Amazon - I’ll have to look at the brand
@@WildCanoes I’d appreciate it. I’ve been through 6 from Amazon so far all garbage and that one looks like it has promise lol
When you freeze dry skittles, what’s the weight difference before and after? If you do 10oz of skittles, so they come out as 6oz of freeze dried? How many skittles can you fit on a tray?
Thanks in advance!
Hey! The weight difference isn’t honestly that much different. Definitely lighter than regular skittles but still on the heavier side. You can fit a whole small bag of skittles on a tray, this is the medium sized freeze dryer so it has 3 trays.
What's that bag you use
Just Mylar bags off of amazon
Where did you get your Machine
It’s a Harvest Right machine but we found it used in Kijiji I believe
Where do you get those food saver bags I have a mini one just like u I just can find where to buy them.
The foodsaver bags can be found on Amazon! They are also called Mylar bags
Skittles have no water so you just need to heat in an oven and run on a vacuum for 8 min.
Interesting
So I have to have a special kind of machine to make them
Yup
hello love the video but how much is the machine
A couple grand but got outs off Facebook marketplace for WAY less. Set notifications!
What does this taste like
Amazing!!
What machine do u have? And how much was it? I want one so bad!
Medium from Harvest Right - it’s a couple grand but we scored this off of Kijiji!!
You say "21" hours?
What is that Machine brand?
Harvest Right - more info in true description
where did you get the hand held pump?
Amazon
Can you tell me the name and where you get this freeze dry machine
Everything in the description of the video - and we found this one on Facebook marketplace :)
How much has your light bill went up
My hydro bill isn’t impacted too much as we only run the machine for a few days at a time. Nothing in reasonable and still justifiable considering that freeze dried meals go for upwards of $10 in stores
Just got my dryer and we have been trying different candies. When all the cycles are done is it supposed to hot inside it almost where the pans are to hot to touch.
It should be warm but not not burning hot - the setting for the trays should be a bit lower so they aren’t as hot. Check your settings for the tray temps :)
If you are taking your trays out as soon as the cycle ends then yes the trays will be warm/hot. It's normal - the last part of the cycle heats the trays to 100F.
Where can I order ?
Haha unfortunately we don’t have an industrial kitchen and can’t sell 🙄 you can buy many diff types of freeze dried food from Mec, Sail and many other outdoor stores though!
Hi where can you get a freeze dryer from
Harvest Right
I always wonder what the machine used
Probably cant never afford it tho
They are very expensive, we found ours used in Kijiji though!
How much is the machine and where can we purchase one?
Link in the bio but it's $2600 😅
What machine do you use to freeze dry?
Harvest Right
what are they called?
A freeze dryer - different than a dehydrator
Do you have to have some kind of food seller license to sell FD candy (packaged)? I was thinking of selling at a local craft fair.
We only make it for personal use, but I do believe you need a commercial kitchen (inspected and licensed) to sell to others. It’d be worth looking into though! And local fair might not require as most are home baked goods anyways
if it’s Pre-Frozen how long would it take ?
It takes a few hours off the overall drying process. We always try to pre-freeze everything to minimize as much time as possible. ☺️
If I buy a air fryer that hydrates, can I make freeze dried candy
You can only make freezedried candy in a freeze dryer unfortunately :)
that long for some candy wow
Hahaha yup! But worth it on day 7 of a remote backpacking trip! 🤩
Out of all the marshemellows in the world u chose peeps?
Lol I know right.. the worst marshmallows out there but this was around Easter and they were the cheapest 😂
@@WildCanoes lol
@@WildCanoes I wish i could get the freeze dry machine but its expensive
How do you freeze dry them though? Damn you got a lot of views for not showing how to actually freeze dry the items! What kind of freeze drier is used?
Haha you started off this comment with a dig and then tried to recover 😅 I’ll copy and paste the video description for you.
“In this freeze dried session we do skittles, strawberries and marshmallows! Perfect for backcountry camping or hiking snacks!
Home Freeze Dryer - Small by Harvest Right: harvestright.com/product/home-freeze-dryer/ “
The machine is what actually freeze dried the candy. This video is showing every step involved with freeze drying besides what actually happens for the long period of time that it’s in the freeze dryer with the door covered and not able to look in. Freeze drying is done by a machine - not manual human labour. I encourage you to maybe watch other freeze dried videos as well where they may have access to an industrial machine that has a window that isn’t covered. Enjoy your day! :)
How kinf of freeze dryer is that?
Harvest right - small :)
my jaw dropped seeing the price haha
Omg I know! We were lucky to find ours on Facebook marketplace for less than half the original price 🤞🏻
I see most ppl wear gloves but is there alot of ppl that don't?
I mean if you’re selling it for other people sure wear gloves but this is for personal consumption
hi
I thought freeze dried candies were for people with braces
Interesting lol anyone can eat them haha
Ahead of your time!
Can I use my freezer 😭
No
Wish I could afford this
They are very expensive, we actually bought all of ours used which really saved us ALOT of money. Check Kijiji and Facebook marketplace constantly.
@@WildCanoes will do, thanks so much! I was shocked at the prices when I looked into this, but I'll definitely look for a used one
Good luck on your search!
I bet the electric bill is crazy high for people that make and sell freeze dried candy
Still cheaper than paying for freeze dried meals and food at the store 😅
Use an egg slicer to slice your strawberries
Genius!
This freeze Drier cost over £6,000 to buy.
Did you win the lottery?😂😅😢 Nice machine but way too expensive
I thought this would be easy but the damn machine cost 6 grand lol
Oh my gosh they are so expensive 🤯 we got ours used for half the price tho! Check Kijiji and fb marketplace

$2600 😢 crys in poor
Plot twist: she doesn't have any children.
That thing cost like 4 grand 💀
We got ours used for less but although expensive, buying freezedried meals for a family of 6 is WAY more over 2-3 years than buying this machine + electrical bill is. 🤷🏼♀️
@@WildCanoes first of all you use yours for backpacking canoeing etc whatever you do clearly that’s an investment you want for something like that and that is something I’m willing to pay but for pleasure 4 grand ain’t worth it when I can get a cheap 300 dollar one and use that 2700 for other things using it for candy every once in a while is way different then extended use for meal prepping trips
As of right now I believe the only consumer freeze driers are made by this brand - a dehydrator would be way less than $300 or most ovens have one. Definitely an investment if used consistently like we do but unless money isn’t an issue it’s a VERY expensive toy 😂
So this isnt really a how to video. Its a buy a freeze dry machine and stick food in it video.
Lol thanks for watching and for commenting! It is a how to, we show you from start to finish how to do something. If you have a machine you can do the same 😅

... Skittes and 🍓 why 🧊
she is making for herself
Shouldn't you be wearing gloves?
I liked my own comment.
Nice
She was skinny, til she met a man with freeze dried avocados
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Why he doing that
I like it!
you’d definitely like the skittles, maybe even the strawberries!
@@WildCanoes I am sure I would. I may have to search you out in the forest and get some.
