Dinagyang festival is the best the move the way they dance is unique like a dance of a native people aeta ati and they have story every time they perform. Unlike in sinulog they copy the dance of the Spaniards that bring they dance the dance of sinulog is not our native dance .

Even their both use ati, but the costume, the headdress, the colors are different. Another fact is that, making dinagyang costumes is harder than you think it is because it requires to be stronger and not easy to break because they are used for hardcore dancing and will be used 4 different times in a day. For me Dinagyang is more on Tribal than Sinulog,Coz Panay has more Ethnic People and tribal groups than Cebu,Aeta/ati are still alive trough out Panay.and Cebu they hav pruvial Parade to celebrate the time when Sto nino arrived in the island..
Right! In honor of the Aetas in Panay. The original dances (Ati-atihan, Derived from the word ATI, the Aetas of Panay) was a practice even before the Malay, Indonesians, Chinese, Indians and Westerners came to the Phlippines. It is older than most people think.
Just to be fair to your comments In talking about Ethnicity Cebuanos ben the most center of businesses since 15000 while iloilo or panay never ben. Also history tells that CEBUANOS ben a rajahnate while iloilo panay is not.

Ang Dinagyang ay total Package na. In fairness sa Sinulog, ang Dinagyang kasi ay may dalawang part yan, Kasadyahan at Ati-atihan. Nung time na sa Cebu ako nag work naka panood ako nang Sinulog, sabi ko parang pareho lang sila nang Kasadyahan sa Iloilo. Sorry sa mga friends ko sa Cebu at Kalibo ha..Opinion ko lang ito. Kung e combine natin ang Ati-atihan sa Kalibo at Sinulog sa Cebu, ito ay Dinagyang.

For me I think these two festivals are unique sa kanikanilang aspeto. Yung isang group ng Sinulog na nag guest years ago sa Dinagyang, portrayed the fluidity and finesse of the dancers. Parang nanunuod lang ako ng sayaw ng mga Kastilang ninuno natin. Very graceful and enchanting with majestic costumes and background trumpets to boot. Meanwhile, Dinagyang is a tribal dance that portrays the Aetas of Panay and Negros islands. Kelangan maliksi at mabilis and drums would often associate warriors doing their ritual dance. Both is beautiful in their own right. Would love to experience Cebu during their Sinulog, in the near future.🙂

Early in the thirteenth century, a group of datus, namely, Puti, Sumakwel, Bangkaya, Paiburong, Paduhinog, Dumangsol, Dumangsil, Dumaluglog, Balkasusa, and Lubay, and a thousand followers, took to the sea in their barangays, and sailed northward. They were weary of the oppressive rule of Makatunaw, Sultan of Borneo, and because they had had enough of him, they hoped to find a new place where they could live more freely and happily.They crossed the Sulu Sea to the southern tip of Negros, but feeling that it was not far away enough from Borneo, they sailed farther north until they came out into the Sibuyan Sea. They were about to bypass Panay as they had bypasses Negros, when, as they neared Romblon they were attracted by the blue silhouette of a mountain that loomed high and clear to the south. The outline resembled a sarok, or looked like a sarok "Mangkosarok" which seemed to beckon to them.Without any order from Datu Puti who was on the lead barangay, the helmsman change course and headed directly south toward the beckoning "Mangkosarok". Datu Puti made no comment about the change course, and the other barangays did the same. They sailed on until they reached the mouth of the Aklan River. They sailed upstream as far as the tide allowed them, some two kilometers from the sea. On the right bank they debarked to rest and to refresh themselves.Not long after their landing, they made contact with the aboriginal Atis. Marikudo himself, the Ati King, and his wife Maniwangtiwang, welcomed the new arrivals. Datu Puti soon after started negotiations with Marikudo for the purchase of parts of his domain. It did not take long for Puti and Marikudo for come to terms, and so the biggest real estate deal of the country was consummated.It was agreed that the Borneans would pay off with a gold sarok- a golden replica of the mountain that had lured them to these shores - a gold necklace, some bolts of cloth, and some golden trinkets, in consideration of which the Atis would leave the lowlands and retire to the mountains.A feast was held in celebration of the transaction. Borneans and Atis had a grand time feasting, dancing and singing. As a sign of real friendship, the lighter skinned Borneans "sooted" themselves to look more like the dark Atis, and so started what was to become the Ati-Atihan festival of Aklan.Soon as the first Ati-Atihan, the Atis retired to the mountains, and the Borneans got busy settling their new homeland. The first settlement was Madyanos, the present Laguinbanwa in Numancia. From here they conducted explorations into the hinterlands and along the coast.Datu Bangkaya and his people stayed in at Madyanos, but Paiburog and his people went farther south and upstream lured by the Mangkosarok. They went further and further south until one day, they realized that Mangkosarok had vanished. But they went on south anyway to Irongirong.Datu Sumakwel and his group also left but using the same Mangkosarok landmark, they also lost sight of Mangkosarok some days after. They crossed over the Madyaas range into Hamtik and established themselves at Malandong.Datu Puti left for farther explorations to the north after assuring himself that his people were secure in their new home. Before he departed, he designated, Datu Sumakwel, being the eldest, as the chief datu of Panay.

Yung Dinagyang as a festival is FIlipino made pero yung costume insipiration is of African inspiration owing to the fact that when the Borneans came to Panay, they saw African like drumming and cultural celebration. From a variety of side events to gigantic food fests around the city, they're unexpectedly well-executed.
Sadly, there are now lowkey copycats of this festival throughout the Philippines, but the thing with Dinagyang is, you could distiguish it from other similar festivals because of how authentic, original and unique it is.

Even their both use ati, but the costume, the headdress, the colors are different. Another fact is that, making dinagyang costumes is harder than you think it is because it requires to be stronger and not easy to break because they are used for hardcore dancing and will be used 4 different times in a day. That's top-tier craftmanship right there!

For me I think these two festivals are unique sa kanikanilang aspeto. Yung isang group ng Sinulog na nag guest years ago sa Dinagyang, portrayed the fluidity and finesse of the dancers. Parang nanunuod lang ako ng sayaw ng mga Kastilang ninuno natin. Very graceful and enchanting with majestic costumes and background trumpets to boot. Meanwhile, Dinagyang is a tribal dance that portrays the Aetas of Panay and Negros islands. Kelangan maliksi at mabilis and drums would often associate warriors doing their ritual dance. Both is beautiful in their own right. Would love to experience Cebu during their Sinulog, in the near future.🙂

The beats of Dinagyang Festival is hard to beat, more alive
Early in the thirteenth century, a group of datus, namely, Puti, Sumakwel, Bangkaya, Paiburong, Paduhinog, Dumangsol, Dumangsil, Dumaluglog, Balkasusa, and Lubay, and a thousand followers, took to the sea in their barangays, and sailed northward. They were weary of the oppressive rule of Makatunaw, Sultan of Borneo, and because they had had enough of him, they hoped to find a new place where they could live more freely and happily.They crossed the Sulu Sea to the southern tip of Negros, but feeling that it was not far away enough from Borneo, they sailed farther north until they came out into the Sibuyan Sea. They were about to bypass Panay as they had bypasses Negros, when, as they neared Romblon they were attracted by the blue silhouette of a mountain that loomed high and clear to the south. The outline resembled a sarok, or looked like a sarok "Mangkosarok" which seemed to beckon to them.Without any order from Datu Puti who was on the lead barangay, the helmsman change course and headed directly south toward the beckoning "Mangkosarok". Datu Puti made no comment about the change course, and the other barangays did the same. They sailed on until they reached the mouth of the Aklan River. They sailed upstream as far as the tide allowed them, some two kilometers from the sea. On the right bank they debarked to rest and to refresh themselves.Not long after their landing, they made contact with the aboriginal Atis. Marikudo himself, the Ati King, and his wife Maniwangtiwang, welcomed the new arrivals. Datu Puti soon after started negotiations with Marikudo for the purchase of parts of his domain. It did not take long for Puti and Marikudo for come to terms, and so the biggest real estate deal of the country was consummated.It was agreed that the Borneans would pay off with a gold sarok- a golden replica of the mountain that had lured them to these shores - a gold necklace, some bolts of cloth, and some golden trinkets, in consideration of which the Atis would leave the lowlands and retire to the mountains.A feast was held in celebration of the transaction. Borneans and Atis had a grand time feasting, dancing and singing. As a sign of real friendship, the lighter skinned Borneans "sooted" themselves to look more like the dark Atis, and so started what was to become the Ati-Atihan festival of Aklan.Soon as the first Ati-Atihan, the Atis retired to the mountains, and the Borneans got busy settling their new homeland. The first settlement was Madyanos, the present Laguinbanwa in Numancia. From here they conducted explorations into the hinterlands and along the coast.Datu Bangkaya and his people stayed in at Madyanos, but Paiburog and his people went farther south and upstream lured by the Mangkosarok. They went further and further south until one day, they realized that Mangkosarok had vanished. But they went on south anyway to Irongirong.Datu Sumakwel and his group also left but using the same Mangkosarok landmark, they also lost sight of Mangkosarok some days after. They crossed over the Madyaas range into Hamtik and established themselves at Malandong.Datu Puti left for farther explorations to the north after assuring himself that his people were secure in their new home. Before he departed, he designated, Datu Sumakwel, being the eldest, as the chief datu of Panay.

If Aliwan gives away Php 1 million for the competition, Sinulog gives away Php 1 million for free interpretation and another Php 1 million for streetdancing for which yung winner can actually get Php 2 million for both the streetdancing and the ritual showdown
Naiintindihan din natin na majority are applauding Dinagyang from Luzon dahil yun lang din ang fesitval na nakikita nila sa Aliwan. Pero sa Sinulog, dun mo makikita paano mag perform ang ibat ibang champions ng festivals gaya ng champions ng Bonok Bonok Maradjao Karadjao Festival ng Surigao, champions ng Lanzones Festival ng Camiguin, Champions ng Kadayawan ng Davao City, Champions ng Diyandi Festival ng Iligan City, Champions ng Zamboanga City, Champions ng Cotabato provinces, Champions ng Sandugo ng Bohol, Champions ng Butuan Festival and Agusan provinces, Champions ng Kasadyaan Festival ng Tacloban, Leyte; champions nga mga iba pang festival ng buong Leyte at Samar; at marami pang iba..in fact makikita mo sa history ng Sinulog na ang mga champions ay nagmumula pa sa Mindanao at karatig Visayas province or city.
Naiintidihan din natin ang pride ng mga Ilonggo because alam din natin na super proud talaga ang mga Ilonggo when it comes to their heritage at lalo na sa kung ano ang kanila.
Wag pag awayan ang festivals kasi kanya kanyang preference yan kung ano ang festival na kanila.
From the viewpoint namin na sumasali ng streetdancing at festivals dito sa Visayas at Mindanao, we aim for Sinulog dahil iba ang karisma ng Sinulog at accomodated yung choreography namin, interpretation at musicality namin sa Sinulog for which ang Dinagyang napaka different ng choreography, costumes, at musicality.. hindi mananalo ang Mindanaoan tribes sa Dinagyan dahil African tribal yung theme nila while sa Mindanao are cultural naman ng mga indigenous tribes na pwedeng pwede sa free interpretation ng SInulog festival.

@rity_loft haha di mo talaga alam no na ang ati type of culture is African descent? Yung Dinagyang as a festival is FIlipino made pero yung costume insipiration is of African inspiration owing to the fact that when the Borneans came to Panay, they saw African like drumming and cultural celebration.

Lamang lang talaga ang cebu sa historical setting sa festival at Halos buong january ang fiesta sa cebu dahil sa daming sto. Niño ang patron sa mga chapel
Sa mga vloggers na nagpopost ng mga videos at nanuod ng dinagyang at sinulog, yung mga comments nila na yung yung difference sa performance yung sinulog daw ay parang sayaw lang sila, syempre plus the costumes, while the dinagyang also have the costumes, the props, etc, the difference sabi nila yung dinagyang di lang sila sumasayaw sa whole performance nila kundi may istorya, may kwento yung kanilang, yung parang daw yung kanilang performance ay isang kwento about the life of our ninuno and amcestirs nuon, thier way of living,vhow they live, how they survive nuong mga unang panahon.
Kung anu nuon ng wala pa o di pa dumating yung mga spanish dito sa pinas kung anu pamumuhay ng mga ninuno natin, yung hanggang sa dumating spanish and how they change, etc....

Even Bacolod City, kinakain yan ng buhay kaya galit yan sila sa Bacolod. Nagka Megaworld na umandar na pag ka ilusyodana and tikalon. Even the original fiesta of Sto Nino they want to discredit which is Sinulog in Cebu compared to their copy cat festival na kinopya lang naman sa Ati Atihan as queen festival kuno dahil sa awards daw from Aliwan... Ang cheap talaga ng taste... Foreign tourist doesn't recognized Aliwan and in fact mas dami pang recognitions ang Sinulog outside the country that's why it is the most famous and grandest festival. Kaya no wonder why yung Dinagyang nila nilalangaw ng mga competitors kahit mga kalapit island and provinces walang pupunta to celebrate with them kasi nga ang cheap ng festival nila and the same celebration can also be found also in Sinulog and Ati Atihan.. By the way they even want to discredit Sinulog which is just festival where in fact even it was popularized as festival, the Sinulog word was a term for ritual dance the original dance workship for Sto Nino way back during Spanish era. Tapos yung mga copy cat festival pa yung queen festival eh wala ngang ka class yang festival nila... Walang originality at ang cheap ng taste......

Parada lang iyong original sinalog at 2 step forward at 1 step backward ang galawan. Walang street dance competition pwera lang doon sa talagang gustong mag folk dance habang pumaparada.
Sinulog is the best for me, gusto ko kasi ang sayaw na pang elementary at ang tugtog na puro torotot 😇
