- We think we know why lil Nas X is trolling Christians with his song Montero (Call Me By Your Name) and his 666 shoes.
We have an interesting take on this situation that we have not heard people talk about.
We both grew up in a Christian church and we can relate to depictions in this music video. We had lots of fears growing up and even debated taking our own lives because of Bible verses and teachings condemning us.
Luckily there are kind Christians, but many still believe Chris and I should die and burn in hell for our gay sins.

I understand not wanting kids to watch stuff like this, but i also think that it is up to the parents to monitor what their children watch. Its not the artists responsibility too monitor every child in the world.
I just find it ironic because those same parents didn't care when their kids were listening Old Town Road like that isn't also a song for adults either lol

As the parent of a 19 year old I 100% agree. It's the parents responsibility to monitor. And to David if you raise your children well then a teenager seeing this video shouldn't make a difference. As children grow up we have to trust that they will make good decisions when we aren't there.
@@Kate-jk6pf My niece has never known boundaries. At 12 she was smoking pot. Her mom knew about it but never told dad. I was horrified and so I clamped down on my niece with an iron fist. I have parental controls on my TV and the only shows my niece is allowed to watch is Peppa Pig and Dora the Explorer. On those rare special nights, like when she gets an A+ on an exam, we will watch the Sound of Music together. I promised all of my nieces and nephews that I would never raise my voice with them and till this day I still have not. We love each other.
I love that lil nas x puts out this song. He actually challenges so many things, gender roles, sexuality, religion and people opinions.
Lil nas x made this video to create conversation and guess what no matter if you like it or hate it. You're talking about it.

wait i haven't heard this specific meaning for the pentacle (I've heard of it being a symbol of protection and such) why the five points then? my assumption would be that each point is tied to a certain element but there five points in the pentacle and only four elements so I'm curious what the fifth represents, that is, if my assumption is accurate/gen

The pentagram/pentacle are actually used in many old churches, especially Catholic Churches in South America. Some churches also use the upside down cross as paying homage to St. Peter who was crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to be crucified like Christ. Even in pagan circles, the majority of upside down pentagrams can simply represent the meeting of "spirit" (top point of the up-right pentagram.) and earth/flesh. No need for satanic panic reboot. I think a part of parenting is not letting your kids watch these types of videos. LNX is not responsible for raising my kids, I am. It's the same argument that goes with everything "controversial" that comes out, it's the parents' jobs to guard the kids against the content they consume, not the other way around.

True. I'm not too fond that most people are doing the reactions, but they don’t research the video afterward. I like them; only did they watch the video, but they went back and re-watched it and talked about it. I even watched ones where Christians were reacting to the video, but none watched it. They had other people describe it to them. And I’m just wondering how are you having an opinion about it if you haven’t watched or seen it yourself
Parents should not let young kids watch music videos, period. They are not for children. It’s ridiculous to say a video is bad because kids can see it.
Interesting thing is, when I was growing up, I know I watched music videos before cartoons, but I can't remember any videos from back then. I only started paying attention to MTV around 13-14. The funny thing is, I can remember a lot of things from when I was a 3-year old, but I can't remember watching all those iconic music videos (definitely not for children, it was the 90s after all). I guess children just block what they don't really understand from their memory.

Old town road was cheeeeesy, this is the only Lil Nas X song that I like because the production is slick, sophisticated and detailed, the lyrics are personal, it was well written, and the hook is sticky as HELL 😈

I honestly don't get why people are all "think of the children!!!1!!" No, it's not _for_ kids, but it's hardly traumatizing. This is not a level of "sexy" that bothers me at all - but I'm Scandinavian so the culture's a little more relaxed I guess. Even so, any kid with access to a smart phone or tablet has seen more sexual stuff than this (this is not extreme for music videos except for being a gay guy). The same goes for the dark stuff, satan and hell: MVs, movies and so on use this imagery all the time. Actually threatening a kid with hell is what's traumatizing

I don't think Nike will win this lawsuit. Copyright laws cover direct product usage but once that product is coopted for another purpose the law no longer applies. Meaning is contingent upon context. Richard Prince, a famous artist, was sued by Marlboro for using a Marlboro Man advertisement with little to no changes. Marlboro lost the lawsuit. Lil Nax X changed the original context of a Nike shoe to convey a message entirely beyond Nike and the shoe's usage. That's my two cents. Love you long time! ❤️

Ok we may of seen a different video I don't get it it looked harmless to me the music I thought was actually pretty good as far as the video it seemed like a homage to The fifth Element with Bruce Willis. But I didn't think it was long enough I would of liked to see more. I think Chris is correct. Lil Nas X is feeding the ridiculous Christian theology and commercial hypocrisy back right back to them. Little kids and their parents SHOULD here this because it helps point out the ludicrous and over the top stories that are put forth in the Bible. As a kid and teenager, I took all of the church teachings at face value and it freaked me out and I suffered A LOT for it. Tried the conversion therapy and everything. One of the songs at the time that helped me realize how ridiculous my fears were was "It Ain't Necessarily So" by Bronski Beat (it was the 80s), which highlighted all the over the top stories in the Bible (Jonah and the Whale, etc.) and ultimately their take on homosexuality. It was equally blasphemous at the time. Lil Nas X is doing the same thing to a modern teen audience. Be yourself.
