Just a heads up for anyone wanting to make this - I tried this recipe today and I think that it would suit being a salted pretzel much better as the dough isnt sweet at all and they come out quite crispy. Still a really good recipe but if I made them again I would skip the cinnamon and sugar :)
The dough isn't supposed to be overly sweet with pretzels. They are made to go either way. The sweetness comes from the cinnamon sugar or glaze. Savoury options are also available but same dough is used.
Perfect recipe, thank you!!! I've made these 3 times in the past week. I've tried and am obsessed with soft cinnamon pretzels at my local pretzel shop (Pretzel Hut) and these are even better ❤
You may try. But I will say if you fry them make sure they are dry well before frying, as if you fry immediately after soaking in the water will lead to hot oil splash and risk to burn 🔥. I am not sure also if you will get the crispy layer from outside with frying.
Heyyyyyy i halfed the recipe and it worked fine, there's just one thing i used eggwash and i put the pretzels in the oven for about 13 minutes and they were not changing in color whatsoever. The bottom on the other hand was getting very crispy, so i took it out of the oven and put it in my electric oven hoping that it would get some sort of color. I was scared to leave it there for too long so it ended up not changing that much color-wise. But it tasted pretty good. should i have lefted in the electric oven longer?
If you really want the brown color on the surface then you either decrease the oven heat and or broil it for few minutes, ( I mean open the upper flame to cool the surface faster )
You should be able to. Self rising flour is just apf with salt and baking powder so you might want to leave the extra salt out of the recipe. Not sure about the yeast though.

Great tip! I actually do add salt sometimes. It is personal preference

What flour did you use?
What dry yeast did you use activedry or rapid rise instant yeast
All purposes flour. Active dry yeast , but I think you can use whhatvyou have and the result will be amazing
They look so good 👍 can I fry them instead of baking them?

Led me to think
Can I use self raising flour ?
You should be able to. Self rising flour is just apf with salt and baking powder so you might want to leave the extra salt out of the recipe. Not sure about the yeast though.
Yes you can try it
did you use all purpose flower
you can use plain flour or bread flour
Yes
Hi Did it say 12 3cups of flour
Flour not flower
If I hand knead, how long should I do it for?
Just enough to have nice homogeneous dough
Could you make these salty pretzels instead of sweet? Or would I need to follow a different recipe?
Thank you!
Yes, you can! After cooked brush with melted butter and spray with kosher salt (coarse salt) and enjoy
