As I understand it, you live in the perfect situation for testing the multipath capabilities. Please hook this up to dual antennas and test it. I'm thinking of adding a second antenna to pull in channels in the opposite direction, and if this works, it'd solve my issue.

I'm finding the same price for both the Televes 560483 and the Televes 560383. Wouldn't it be better to at least have the option for two antenna inputs? Seems like it would be an added potential feature for the same price.

Thanks for another spot on recommendation. Replaced my very good Amplify preamp with the current Televes 560483 now that the snow is off the roof. A big improvement not so much in signal strength over my old amp but a much better and consistant solid signal. Although a few of the lowest signals are breaking up this morning but I had no signal at all most of the winter with the old preamp. The Amplify is a slightly different setup being it had a VHF/UHF diplexer built in if you are running dedicated antenna while this one has a combined for multiple of the same type of antenna. So I needed to dig up a diplexer to first combine seperate VHF/UHF Harrisburg market antenna and use the other for the Philadelphia market antenna. This one really does what is advertised even with a overpowering signal from a close tower and being 70 or so miles from the towers and in a valley.

I've been using the Televes for a couple of weeks, and am quite pleased with it. The gain adjustment is very sensitive and the feature itself is terrific. I love being able to control each antenna separately, even though the amplified signal from a weaker station on ONE antenna, can adversely affect stronger signals going to the OTHER antenna. I've learned to keep the weaker station at lower amplification.

Tyler, thanks for all the great info you put up through your channel. The hard work and clear, detailed analysis are really appreciated. I'm on the coast of Florida about 60 miles from Orlando. I purchased the ClearStream 4 max based on your reviews and it's been performing very well, overall, especially since we are at the outer envelope of signal range. I do get some pixelation, and occasional complete signal loss on a couple of the normally strong and clear stations when atmospheric conditions decline or some other kind of interference kicks up. Based on your review of the Televes preamp, and its automatic gain control feature, I decided to buy one (the single input version) to see if it could help boost my signal reception when it's needed without overpowering signals that don't need it. When I put it in line, the strangest thing happened. I lost most of my strong, local market stations (WESH 2, WKMG 6, PBS 24, WFTV 9, WKCF 18, etc.) and started pulling in a mess of random stations from NE, N, and NW (Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Savannah...which is 260 miles away!) all off the back of my antenna! The only thing I can figure is that the preamp was massively increasing my gain, across the spectrum, with no automatic adjustment, thereby crushing the stations that were normally coming in from where I have the antenna pointed (S, SW) and capturing broadcasts off the back of the antenna which are normally way too weak to even detect. Do you think I received a faulty preamp from Televes or did I totally misunderstand what the automatic gain control is supposed to do? I reached out to Televes US, in Colorado, but they have not gotten back to me with any useful response. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

You received a bunch of crazy TV stations due to a tropospheric ducting event that happened over the past two days. It had nothing to do with the preamp. Try it again tomorrow.

    • @danwalsh9931
      @danwalsh9931 3 года назад

@@AntennaMan Tyler, I should have given you a clearer explanation of the timing of this strange reception event. I installed the preamp on April 10. The loss of my local stations and the "never before" reception of all the distant stations from the opposite direction my antenna is pointed happened then. That was well before the tropospheric event you mentioned. I called Televes on Monday, the 12th, and spoke with a very nice woman there named Deeann. I've been waiting to get info and guidance from her primary technician since then. I finally thought to write to you today for advice while still waiting for input from Televes. Your mention of tropospheric ducting was certainly intriguing, though, and triggers another question. If that kind of event happened to enhance signal propagation from the north, would it, at the same time, suppress signal strength and reception from closer local stations to the south?

I ordered one, too for two dissimilar antennas (both hi VHF and UHF) aimed not quite 180 out. The issue in my case is the larger antenna (Winegard) is picking up local UHF and VHF off the back and is out of sync with the smaller antenna pointing at the stronger local stations. I require an amp on the larger antenna as those stations are near-fringe. I am hoping this, along with a new coax run to simplify and shorten the run from the antenna fixes it all. It appears this is what it is designed for.

I just set up my Televes Dual Input PreAmp and compared it with my 30-year old Channel Master CM7777 preamp. Turns out there wasn't too much difference. A bit better signal on some channels, and a bit worse on a few others. I'm about 30 miles from the Seattle area transmitters. My setup is two attic-mounted antennas (one UHF and one VHF) with about 40-ft of RG6 coax from the antennas to the entertainment center. I do like the Televes feature with two outputs on its power supply so I could remove the splitter that feeds my TV and my Tivo DVR. So, for now, I'm leaving the Televes installed.

The reviews are great and a friend bought one. The only thing he doesn't like, living in the NW are the cheap plastic tie to the mast. He is going to try a different way to strap the booster box to the pole. A metal strap at least a hose clamp is what is needed. He said the amp inside the plastic weather proof container is very good. Since we get a lot or rain & wind in the NW, especially along the coast, some durable is really needed. Why Televes is using a plastic strap is beyond me. I am still using my CM 7888 and it works well.

Excellent informative video. I've been a Televes customer for years. I have two Televes UHF only Yagi antennas plus a long range VHF only Yagi from Stellar Labs. All three antennas are combined with a Televes 3-way combiner. This combiner uses the older method of stripping back about 3/8 inch of the coax insulator and dielectric to expose the signal wire and fold back the shielding. I am using quad coax which is a little thicker than the combiner is designed for. I had to modify the coax clamps to allow for the thicker coax. Also, one for the UHF antennas has a 60 ft. coax run before it gets to the combiner. This antenna has its own pre-amp. The combiner allows you to dial in the amount of gain to balance the feed to your TV. I have the pre-amp feed dialed down and the other two feeds dialed up. This combination works well for me.
It looks like the Televes T-Force 2-way Pre-amp has F connecter ports. This should simplify coax installation. Given that I want to combine three antennas, can I use two of these new pre-amps to combine all three antennas. Or do you have a different recommendation? Perhaps getting a 5G filter at the TV end of the run would be simpler. But then again, I may not experience any interference. I'll have to see.

The easiest way to use this preamp in your situation would be to diplex one of your UHF only antennas with the VHF only antenna, and use that feed for one of the inputs. I live dead center between NYC and Philly and wanted to get both markets. But I opted for the NYC side 1st. I just ordered the Televes dual input and once that comes in, I hope, of course, that my NYC channels will be perfect, then I can get another yagi and shoot to Philly to get the rest of the channels. My only issue has been that I am getting slight pixelation and drop out on my stronger channels which I suspect are too strong for the amplifier. Tried both the 483 and 383 on a Channel Master single ULTRAAtenna 60. The direct connection to the antenna always was best. The amps either matched the signal or where less by some. For the 2nd antenna I had in the attic is Antennas Direct ClearStream 4MAX UHF VHF Indoor Outdoor TV Antenna. Only one channel improved by 4, the rest all matched the direct connection to the roof by itself. Returned both to Amazon. Need CBS too come in better. Going to try a better antenna.😇

Hi Tyler, I put a big roof antenna into my attic (similar to cm3020 but rca 3038). I want to split to 2 coax up there and run one direct to a tv and another to my basement for a fire tv recast box. The direct one is for an elderly person so trying to keep it simple. The recast one is for the rest of us who are less technically challenged. Today is a clear cold night and I have less signal than last night which was overcast and cool. There is a power outlet up there. So, I’m wondering if I need a pre-amp, an inline amp or a powered splitter. Do you have any suggestions for me? I’m in MA 02332 pointing toward transmitters near Providence RI. I appreciate any insights.

Another great video. A few questions...
I have two different antennas. They get stations from 3 different "markets" Youngstown OH, Pittsburg PA & Stuebinville/Wheeling. Now I have each antenna running to a different tuner card in my PC. Have 2 cards total at the moment. Can this be used/installed indoors? Aka closer to the TV/Tuner equipment & farther from the antenna/s? And also is this a "combiner"? Meaning if I input both anteanas into this amp would I be able to pull in both sets of stations to either PC tuner card simultaneously from the amps single output? Cool. Thanks.

It might help a little bit with multipath from the automatic gain but it might not get rid of it all together. The only way around multipath all together is to wire the antennas separately or buy the AvantX from Televes. Sounds like good amp, I've got 2 ordered! As an installer, I'm always looking for a rounder wheel, and the idea of PROPERLY joining 2 antennas from different markets is an exercise ranging from witchcraft to just plain dumb luck, with everything in between. 55+ miles to Madison, WI and 70+ miles to Green Bay, WI. We shall see....
One irritating thing that the manufacturers seem to love, is the idea of mounting the preamp to a mast with a damned zip tie. WHAT is so wrong with a nice metal clamp? Those things get brittle and break after a couple years, then the amp hangs down, fills up with rainwater, and that's the end of it. The old Channel Master #0064C and derivatives as well as the Winegard AP series are 25-40 years old now and lots of them are still up there, still humming away, rusted-up clamps and all....

I cut the cord about 2 months ago and purchased a Tablo QUAD Four DVR with a Wineguard 200 preamp, Clearstream 4 Max Antenna with all new quadshield coax and connectors. After two months of working beautifully, I started having problems. Shows I had selected for recording on the Tablo were not recording due to a weak antenna signal strength. Right away I suspected the preamp mainly because all the equipment was brand new and I had heard about the W200 being junk. I ordered the Televes preamp mainly because I was VERY impressed by Antenna Man's review. The new preamp is installed and and I am happy to report that my problem is solved. I installed the Televes the way it was shipped to me right out of the box and it works great. I did a signal strength test on the three main network channels I watch most. With the W200 when it was working properly two channels were coming in at 80% and one channel at 60%. With the new Televes both channels that were coming in at 80% stayed the same, but the 60% channel improved to 80%. I am glad I purchased and installed the Televes Pre Amp. I highly recommend it. When I compared the two units, the Televes made the W200 look like a cheap toy. In my opinion, this preamp is of professional quality. Two things that stand out in my mind about the unit. I like the way the front cover slides off. It makes connecting the coax easier and when reinstalled protects it from the weather nicely. I also was impressed with the power unit. It is very well made and it has a very visible green light that stays on all the time to let you know it is connected properly. I believe it is 12VDC. Not sure what the W200 was. Again, in closing, I am very happy with my decision to purchase this preamp.

Does your Televes preamp have the single input or the dual input?
