They advertise it as a 1ms response time. What’s the deal with their box claim and what you experienced? Could it be your mouse adding lag?

Finally! I've been waiting for a review on this monitor before pulling the trigger. Thank you so much!
Pleasure, glad you liked the review!
If you're going via Amazon, links in the description give me commission (to any monitor you choose!) :)
Ive had this monitor for about a year. Two things: the power led will revert to an On state despite being turned off in settings. Also, when switching from HDR to SDR, the SDR image will have a magenta tint to it. You can remove it by switching color modes back and forth.
Thank you for your work introducing this monitor. I just pulled the trigger on it thanks to your review. Have a great day Mr. HD!
Pleasure, glad you found the review useful! Let me know what you make of it :)
The best monitor review I've ever seen . Very informative and professional. Keep it up!
Thanks buddy, much appreciated :)
You were absolutely right about lvl 3 being the best presetting. Thank you for this video, it helped me in my purchasing decision and also optimising it when I got it. You're a legend!
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it!
I usually don't comment on videos, but since I see you are replying fast the latest comments I wanted do it too!
I just bought one re-furbished (in theory, it should come good as new, the webiste says) for 300€! On the market is still above 425€ new, and used about 350€, so I'm quite happy!
I'll update this comment once I tested it (still waiting the delivery), thanks for the review :D it helped me a lot!
Pleasure buddy, glad I could help!
I got one during last Black Friday for 360€ or so, the specs seemed too good to be true but I took the gamble and have been very happy! Lot of the same points as in your review rang true for me as well; had to drop the reds a bit, hate the back buttons even if I've gotten used to them a bit, went for 3rd response time mode as well and finally it's a bit harder to play night maps in Hunt:Showdown than on my former TN panel but I knew to expect that with IPS. All that said it's a great set of features that I never thought I'd be getting at this price point!
Glad you're enjoying it buddy, and thanks for sharing your experiences too :)
Hey man,
This is aquite old video/comment, I'm about to click the 'order' button, for this monitor, but I'm trying to find as much info as possible.
Regarding the ips bleed, is it so so bad ? Do you only get that effect/issue when you are using the monitor in a perfectly dark room ? Or even in normally lit room, at , say, 2pm, you still get that effect ?
Regarding my usage, I will never use the monitor without at least a 20-30W lamp... bright screens on ultra dark rooms are the best ways to destroy our precious and sensitive eyes...
Thanks for your reply :)

So, if the room is not totally dark, the bleed ips issue won't be that noticeable?
Thanks you guys for your reply :)
I have just purchased this monitor to replace my 34" 144hz iiyama monitor which was IPS also. The input lag of this HP monitor blows it away in gaming and has very noticeable difference when playing! I'm very pleased!
lol you're the biggest idiot in this comments section saying that out loud.
the the model of iiyama, which I assume is the flat 144hz ads ips, is a better quality panel than what hp uses. If both are the same price(which they were before) the iiyama is better hands down.
If you literally replaced a monitor because of input lag u may has well have gone for a va or tn panel.
the only thing the hp x34 has over the iiyama gb3461wqsu-b1 is that the iiyama model is end of life while the x34 is just launched and has a higher refresh rate.
You literally swapped out a higher quality ips display for a lower quality one and it's only a matter of time before u realise but won't admit it. 😂😂
how is the blacklight bleed? is it rly bad as ppl say for this monitor?
@@aga1nsty0u it's bad, despite me arguing over it a month ago a still went out and got one and just what I expected is what I got, so wasn't disappointed as much. The bleed around the bottom and top left of mine is noticeable, in a dark room with a black/dark image shown onscreen, it's horrible. Horrible isn't even enough to describe how bad it is but maybe it's because I'm coming from a reference point where I've dealt with very good displays, ie the iiyama I mentioned earlier which I still, use on another build in a room next door but it's an end of life model.
Do not buy this monitor at its msrp if u insist on getting one, by it at sale price.
@@aga1nsty0u There is definitely a black bleed in the left bottom corner though! I have my brightness about 60% I turned the brightness up to 100% since you sent this reply, but seems just the same difference! For a cheap monitor, I can't complain! It's literally the span of your hand and more prominent in the corner and light, and gradually fades out! I literally have to turn my head to the right to really notice, but when you are dead looking at the screen it's absolutely fine! I went through a black-screen test, it's really not that bad!
@@aga1nsty0u yes, the fact that either youtube or the channel owner muted the comments from my previous post detailing how and why sort of confirms my suspicion that they're just shilling. The 144hz iiyama 34 inch ultrawide flat monitor is lightyears better than the hp x34, the person who replaced their iiyama is a sucker lol
Bought this monitor and i'm realy happy with it. Cost was € 370 in Portugal wich is a bargain for a 1440p IPS ultrawide. Pretty sure most people will be pleased with this monitor, and only people that are normaly nit-picking everything to the max will say much bad things about it. "It just works". Has great brightness (heck more than 70/100 burns my eyes in white pages), colors are beautifull (but not overly saturated like Nano-IPS or Samsung panels), everything works well out-of-the-box with minimal startup configuration (just make sure black strech and dynamic contrast are OFF, and up to level 2 or 3 on response time). Gamming is awesome, panel is realy fast with minimal lag. Text clarity is OK, PPI is fine, saturation is fine, Backlight Bleed is normal for an IPS, IPS glow is also normal, no dead pixels after 3 hours searching for them. Man... "It just works". No thrills, not many fancy useless options 99% of people will never use, cost is amazing, build quality is OK, no external power-brick. Only one nitpicking so that i can get naysayers not to hate me, is that back buttons are ackward to use and i keep pressing the wrong buttons, but you can download software for it. Also not being curved, but i don't mind it that much and also has some advantages like excel pages are better viewed this way with no curve. In Short = "It just works". Recomended buy.
Thanks for sharing, glad you're enjoying it!
370? Where?
@@lprolog 3 months ago in Portugal, in at least 3 popular stores. Now it's more expensive unfortunately.
@@adomingues00 are you still happy with it?
@@lprolog Yep, really happy. It has a little of overshooting on level 3 response time setting, and level 2 is a little bit slower than i wanted, it seems a setting in the middle of level 2 and level 3 would be awesome. But quite honestly it's not a big deal, very happy overall for the price i payed for it € 370,00.
Got one this week for 420 euro's (damaged box, new panel), normal price 479 euro. Very happy with it, although I need to get used to a flat panel again after a 16:9 32 inch curved Asus gaming monitor. Colours and images are fantastic, gaming is perfect. HP software (omen) also pretty nice, so you don't always need to use the cluncky back buttons, just remember the lowest is the power button. I'm gonna get a second one for productivity !
Happy days, glad you're enjoying it

Gave you a Like for the effort you've put into making the video BUT it would have been better if you could have covered other use cases as well as just game eg. office work, watching movies etc. I can't decide between this and the Gigabyte 34" VA monitor for example.
Can't cover everything, but your question should have been answered in the image quality section of this review.
Does this use local dimming when you are in HDR mode/have dynamic contrast on? I couldnt tell in the video, if it did. Thank you for the review, there is no much out there about this HP monitors and they seem to be a good value.
There isn't, or else it would have been mentioned buddy! Glad you liked the review.
man, love your reviews i bought a pair of speakers that are really nice because of you, my old monitor broke and need a new one, it was an ips panel flat aswell 34 inch, i will use it for games like tarkov, quake, nothing professional but i want the best bang for the buck for gaming in ultra wides. i really like 2, HP 34-inch IPS 165Hz and the Dell 3422dgw, help me which one is better? it seems that both has its own pros and cons, if the Dell doesnt have the nasty ghosting that usually you see in a VA panel i could choose it over the flat ips panel because of its nits aswell, thank you for all your reviews man your the best
Thanks buddy, glad you liked the reviews and find them all useful :)
Can't comment on the Dell, however, as I've not tried it; can easily recommend the HP though!
this panel is a hidden gem
Yup!
Man I am torn between this and the AOC Model. I've never had a VA Panel in my life, so the AOC would be a whole new experience with rich blacks, yet I do a lot of text work on my PC, and I don't want my text to be fuzzy.
Yet I also hate IPS glow just for it burning my eyes at night and it making some game scenes seem so incredibly dull and lifeless.
I'll guess ill buy one first and see how it works for me till the return window. Wish me luck!
I've been researching this one vs Acer Nitro XV340CKP and I've been watching your videos on both monitors multiple times. I'm still confused on which one! Any pointers?
Should be pretty obvious from this newer video that I prefer the HP. Did you watch the video in full?
I've read that this display actually has local dimming of the backlight (albeit only 8 zones). Is this accessed through the dynamic contrast setting? Something to mention in the description.
Maybe watch the video and realise there is non-such option?
Nice Review! Gotta say, this monitor looks exactly like the HP X27Q, but stretched out horizontally.
Ha, yeah guess so! Glad you liked the review :)
is there a way to set it up as a 5:9 and a 16:9 monitor?
I'm consuming all the bad luck for you.
I agree and love each point you made to this monitor. My first picked up from MicroCenter had a dead pixel in the top left quadrant, no problem Ive got 15 days of purchase exchanges. now this 2nd one, also a dead pixel but only after about 30 minutes of powered on use, and it's closer to the center of the screen D:, not over on the side where I'd barely notice it. 3rd times a charm, right? hopefully... Heading back to the store tomorrow.
This was the only 1440 Ultrawide monitor that's flat in-store. so it's my only option. But because I'm having bad luck with dead pixels... statistically means if you are looking to upgrade go grab one of these. I'm consuming all the bad luck for you. (Curved ultrawides are out of the question for my hospital bed setup at 4~5 foot distance from screen. otherwise curved screens sure)
Sounds like you've been unlucky with the panels!

I bought the monitor thanks to your review and am loving it so far! However, I noticed that the monitor does not display it as "g-sync compatible" in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Great video. This monitor is on sale for 250€ (Finland) at the moment. Seriously considering buying it for my oldest son, but I wonder how well his GTX 1070 Strix can handle the resolution. Advice?
That GPU will struggle to output consistent high frames with anything above 1080p - though, for that price, it's a steal; guess you could always play at FHD if needs be until you upgrade your GPU?

Having just bought this monitor in the UK, on a 10% off deal, it has arrived just last night and my first impressions are very positive.
Thankfully I have 3080Ti (FE type) and that should me more than adequate to ensure the FPS is within the Gsync range. Then again some AAA titles are still pushing this card to keep those minimum frame rates up. With 4k that would be even more of a challenge.
I remember trying a UW, same resolution, monitor before. A Samsung VA panel that was curved. Whilst many things to do with monitors is personal I did not like a curved screen, nor some aspects of having a VA panel - altho the blacks were nice and inky.
This IPS based flat screen is most appealing. I do not like the buttons on the rear, as you comment on in your review. Then again I did not like the joystick type control on the rear of that noted Samsung either. As long as I remember that the very last button is the power control, yup got that wrong a few times already, all should be good.
A decent enough price for an impressive monitor, but if playing AAA titles is your thing than a decent, think expensive, GPU is going to be needed.
Thanks for your review.

@@RockG.o.d In terms of IPS glow my monitor was very very good. There were not pixel issues either. BUT............................mine had to be returned today for a refund due to the screen flickering on and off every few seconds. It was not the GPU/ PSU or cable. @@Vimes. any reason you returned it for a refund and not a replacement? Or will you be buying it again?
@@RockG.o.d It is an impressive monitor, I had a 1440p 27" previously.
Whilst it is not quite 4k in resolution, in terms of a performance demands, it is still enough of a difference over a 1440p to be noticeable, not in a bad way with a 3080Ti.
I got both a 3080Ti and that monitor to test out what that could offer me over that of a 3070 and 1440p.
Very subjective, and wish there had been another way to do it, but noting how much they both cost together, AND I was paying rom the difference of the 3070 and 1440p, I really didn't think that it was worth it, the monitor and GPU.
I would not have wanted a 3070 AND this monitor - the Gsync range starts at 48Hz.
The monitor is very good and happen to get a decent one, in terms of glow and zero pixel issues. Being flat and IPS was, for me, much better than the VA and curved one I tried in the past.
Overall testing out this monitor along with a 3080Ti has made me appreciate even more a 3070 and 1440p. Each to their own tho, very subjective and down to affordability.
3070 and 1440p seems a sweet spot in terms of cost / performance.

Looking to get one, but not sure if I should take the “cheap” one
Just a new model I presume?
Nice review, i got this monitor yesterday and couldn't agree more, its great. Really good picture quality and the input lag is really low, thats why i wanted an ips panel, great for competitive and story games. I dont notice any ghosting even on on the fastest response time, so i keep it on fastest. Got it for 300€, was a steal.
Great price! Glad to enjoyed the review!
Great review! Based on it I just bought the HP X32 monitor, as I thought that it's probably quite similar to the X34. I however have a problem with it: the monitor's overall brightness keeps changing automatically based on the image that it receives. For instance if I change from a white fullscreen window to a dark one (notepad to steam for instance), the monitor automatically ups the backlight brightness. The inverse is true as well, the image darkens after changing for a dark window to a white one. The change happens in about a second and is very noticeable in some games with relaviely fast lighting level changes. I have tried toggling every possible setting in the OSD and nothing helps... I'm considering returning the monitor as this is a deal breaker for me. Have you noticed anything similar with the X34?
Sounds like HDR is enabled
Can't comment about another panel, as it's not going to be the same. However, as another person mentioned, that sounds like HDR.
0:12 You can see the colors. I also bought this monitor and thought that i can set the colors as i want, but the true is that is difficult to do that. So if you like this colors buy it otherwise choose something else.
Those are from my camera, don't take what you see on video as to how it looks in person!
if you play using a ps4 pro on this monitor will it upscale the image to wide or does it just stretch the image to fit the display?
Not sure, sorry!
I got an LG UC88 34 IPS Monitor. Doesn't have IPS Bleed . Wish it wasn't just 75hz...
75hz, good for desktop usage then xD
Nice review, I was wondering if you feel as if a monitor this size is missing a curve?
Glad you liked the review! And nope, I actually prefer no curve
@@TotallydubbedHD if you don’t mind explaining why you prefer no curve I’m curious. Because people say it’s more immersive. I’m trying to decide what’s the best one to get. (Edit* thanks for the response by the way!)
@@user-yb4uq2ug2w as it's distracting and as you can imagine has a curve which bends text/games a little. Really subjective though, I'm just a hardcore FPS gamer and I don't want that, but others will indeed feel it's more immersive
@@TotallydubbedHD ok thank you

been using it for 1 and a half year, the ips glow on bottom left is obvious.i would like to believe hp over tighten the screw on the bottom left part, other than that is amazing, cant find much flat ultrawide in the market
another problem is 3080 can only push 90-120 fps in this resolution in most triple A
Thanks for sharing! And indeed, depends on your video settings too
wow this is a steal
Can you update the links where this can be bought?
Not much more I can do, sorry!
Hi, could you please tell me how this monitor works with 2560x1080 (21:9) resolution? I want to be sure that it will be ok with cyberpank on ultra settings. Thank you!
No idea!
2560x1080 will work, but it will have black borders on the top and bottom
Do you think it´s possible to remove the Anti-glare coating?
Nope!
How do I change resolution and optimal mode
what was release date of this monitor is it 2022? is it actually good for shooter games?
Watch the video before asking questions.
I've seen multiple people complain that this monitor has Coil Whine when HDR is turned on, can you confirm if your's has the same issue?
Didn't have any such issues, or else you could bet your bottom dollar I'd point it out lol
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks, I'm guessing only some units might be affected then.

Wow, I was looking at this monitor the other day. I stupidly assumed it wouldn’t be very good for gaming due to its price.

How does it compete with GIGABYTE M34WQ? Except for the refresh rate (where HP is better) and a price (where HP is also better)

The only good review of this monitor in english btw, thanks. Ordered one today.
Can you compare this to the likes of the GIGABYTE G34WQC? Because on paper I can't find the 25-35% premium on the Gigabyte.

No idea about the Gigabyte.
dude, how the hell do i lower this thing? I can't seem to do it even when I tilt it???

Hey, do you still recommend this monitor? Is the flat panel no issue for ultrawide? Asking because this one is really cheap against some other IPS competitors. cheers
Yup!

What Freesync/G-Sync range does this monitor support via DP or HDMI?
Don't have that info, but it would be 48-165/144Hz, given it doesn't have a G-Sync module.

I just bought a x34 and it is really a great monitor. It's a shame that the stand doesn't have cable management though. That's my only complaint
Good point, glad you're liking it though!
How is text on this monitor?
Clear? 1440p.
why VA's are often curved ,while IPS only more expensive gaming models. most of them are flat? what's the reason. I it also because IPS provides better viewing angles so curvature is not so important?
Think it's due to the panel manufacturers opting for one over the other. Baffles me too lol.
Yes, the curve mitigates VA's inherently weak viewing angles
HDR 400 is a real gimmick, only way to get proper HDR is to have a monitor with local dimming zones, but those cost way more.
True, but FALD isn't always required for a good HDR experience imo
Will this work on my xbox series s. Will I be able to get 1440p 120hz on the series s?
It's disrespectful not to watch the video before asking a question that's clearly been covered. It even has its own section! Don't do it again.
