    You should restore ciment tiles which are not fix, the thickness seems very good, and it’s very good quality !

    • @dericksmith
      @dericksmith  11 месяцев назад +1

      dans la salle de bain il y avait déjà du béton à la place des carreaux de ciment à quelques endroits. dans le couloir la qualité des carreaux de ciment + l'ancienne colle est très mauvaise donc je pense recouvrir tout de ragréage

    What are your plans for the building? Will you be living there, and will you run a shop? If so, what sort of shop? Looking forward to watching your progress

    • @dericksmith
      @dericksmith  11 месяцев назад +3

      Yes I will be living here eventually, maybe on and off depending on my own work.
      I could use the existing shop as a shop but at present it is the best, brightest, space and I'd like to use it at a workshop. Once I get into the rooms / buildings at the back of the bakery I will get a better idea of what could be done. I'll see as I go

    Many old pieces of trim, doors, flooring, and such still have value to folks even if needing to be repaired. Hope your are able to rehome or reuse all that you take out that can be salvaged.

      True, some things can not be saved & need to be tossed, but it's also true that some things are thrown away that can be saved.

    Love your video. As a quick suggestion, I notice you using some sort of solution for wall paper removal. My wife and I stripped the walls on our 1913 house that had, in places, 11 layers of wall paper, and we did it with nothing more than hot water in a spray bottle. It worked great, except on paper that was plasticized for bathroom.

    • @dericksmith
      @dericksmith  11 месяцев назад +3

      I just got lucky in this room, the paper was so dry it soaked up all the glue remover. The adjacent bedroom, however, is covered in a plasticized wall paper and no amount of this product made any difference. As I am without electricity I will need to heat the water with a camping stove or similar until reconnected

    Beautiful old building! I would have put insulation in the ceiling cavity. That place is going to be a nightmare to heat.

    • @dericksmith
      @dericksmith  11 месяцев назад +1

      There is another floor above (grenier) which could be converted into useable rooms and in that case I would insulate the roof. I have made allowances for insulation but at a later phase and yes no doubt it's going to be chilly for a while

    • @dericksmith
      @dericksmith  11 месяцев назад +2

      Actually, yes now I understand - when that ceiling by the skylight was open it was the time to insulate. Missed opportunity I suppose but learning as I go

    Keep elements of the old skirting for depth. Then use the detail to make up new / replacement skirting to the correct depth on re-fit.👍👍😊

    • @dericksmith
      @dericksmith  11 месяцев назад +1

      I've sorted and piled a lot of the old skirting as I'd like to retain as much as possible - but I may yet peel back the plaster and repoint the stonework in the downstairs room. Depends on what I find as I go along

    Perhaps some advice for your use of cement mortar - it can cause problems when there’s original lime mortar present- especially for moisture trapping. Good luck. A big job.
