    What a fantastic idea this is. Just made a lot of us rethink doing curves. This week I finished a table runner that had a lot of tight curves in the blocks. I was so worried starting this. But after a lot of pins in the first block found easier to sew with no pins at all. And it went together great. But for smaller curves will try this method.

    I found this after looking for video after video on how to easily sew a drunkard’s path. Genius! I tried this and my seams were perfectly aligned all around the curve. 😁 Thank you!

  • @laylasgigi
    @laylasgigi 5 лет назад +7

    I made 6 Drunkards Path blocks using the glue baste and/or 1 pin method and they all came out horribly. I even used the curved piecing foot that the Crafty Gemini recommended. I used this method, used my regular quarter inch foot and every single one came out flawless. It was the easiest curved piecing I have ever done. I am making place mats so they will be washed and the tape will wash away. I also use this tape when hemming knit fabrics so I had some on hand. It prevents bunching and shifting and puckering and I get a perfect coverstitch.

    I am so glad to have seen this video and curved piecing. Have you ever done curved piercing using two pieced blocks? I’ve been thinking about doing that and this would make it much easier. I think I’m going to do some test box and see how it works.

    No it doesn't gum up your needle
    . You are actually sewing to the left of the tape. If the needle ever feels like it gets sticky you can use an alcohol swab to wipe it down. I have never had trouble with sticky needles.

  • @agovernale
    @agovernale 9 лет назад +2

    Great idea but will tape gum up needle?

      +Ann Marie Governale Am wondering the same thing!

    • @sewinspireddesigns
      @sewinspireddesigns  8 лет назад +2

      No the tape doesn't gum up the needle. You won't be sewing over the tape you will be sewing next to it since it is a quarter inch tape. You can soak your quilt top when you are finished to get rid of the Wonder Tape if you don't want to sew through it when you do your quilting, but It really isn't necessary. I quilt right over the tape and don't have problems with it gumming up my needle. If the needle does get a little sticky, you can just wipe it down with an alcohol swab.

    I just finished sewing some curved blocks using this technique, wondering if it is ok to press them, will it make the glue stick to the fabric? The blocks look wonderful, thank you for this idea. I also was wondering about getting rid of the tape before quilting, but see that question was already answered.

    Glue from the tape can prevent smooth stitching ?

    • @saramillerartist
      @saramillerartist 5 лет назад

      You don’t stitch thru the tape you stitch next to it - the tape is 1/4 inch. I’ve never had a problem with my stitches being uneven. If you are worried about stitching thru the glue when quilting you can spay the piece with water after it’s all sewn together to dissolve the glue.

    it worked on the big piece but not the centre small piece - - how do you do that please as it puckers-??? I did put tape on the convex again

    • @saramillerartist
      @saramillerartist 3 года назад +1

      Did you make sure that the center piece was cut with the edge pieces on the straight of grain? If it wasn’t the curve would be on straight of grain and wouldn’t have enough stretch to be able to ease the pieces together smoothly.

    This same technique can be used with elmer's glue and an iron. A lot cheaper than buying wonder tape plus the glue lasts a ton longer.

    • @sewinspireddesigns
      @sewinspireddesigns  9 лет назад +8

      The tape is a lot less messy and you can use it anywhere without making a mess. I put my pieces together while watching tv and in the car when I'm not driving. Glue works as well, the tape is just a lot more convenient😃.

    • @sewinspireddesigns
      @sewinspireddesigns  6 лет назад +4

      Worth the price to avoid the messiness and sticky fingers that you get when you use elmers glue.
