To do the rear spring make up a spreader bar. I used 3/4 threaded rod, flatened one like a big screwdriver, 3/4 nut & washer,, fit it in a piece of pipe & flatened one end of the pipe, fit in between the springs eyes & tighten nut against pipe as it pushes the eyes apart it relieves the pressure on the hangers. Good luck
I can't be the only one that watched Whelan the whole time of that time-lapse, not to mention Jacob getting practice as a parent with that instinctive "Whaaat?!?" @10:11...
The 5.50s made all the difference on turining the wheels and not hitting on the 36, I know I havent drove it down the road yet but it can steer full lock and push the sob around fine 😅
A friend has an old “spring spreader” tool that works well for removing stock (non-reverse eye) springs. He usually puts the reverse eye spring back in, leaf-at-a- time.
Go to place for roof inserts and drip rails. Would have been nice to have on my 1933 5w Coupe back in the day. Sure present owner is thinking the same.
Just a thought/question on the 40 rear spring: What would happen if you took a 4 X 4, cut to the proper length, rounded off the ends to halfway match the shape of the spring, and use clamps to flatten the spring. Would that spread the eyes enough for the shackles to reach???
that does work and i do that alot but when its under the car i dont have room for the clamp. ill try that in the rear but i know the front didnt have room for that. atleast with the height i could get the car anyway.
Came here and subscribed based on the recommendation of Carter Auto Restyling, stayed for the cool old Fords!
I picked up that resurface tool from harbor freight a few days before Christmas for $40. It's a phenomenal tool

How can I get a 34 like that 😊
Do you have a Ford spring stretcher? It's impossible to fit new shackles etc without one .
They don’t work on reverse eye main leafs
Use your porta power to spread the spring
i could try to rig something up but with reverse eye main leaf i cant do it the normal way
Your 40 needs a mustang 2front and a four link rear and some air bags
yeah that would be nice!
Use a rear spring spreader.....
Doesn’t work with a reverse eye main leaf
👍🏻🍺

Don't mess them dr tops up 😅......
