I rented one and these are actually really well built and a lot of fun. To be honest better than a motorcycle because you can have your wife/girlfriend right next to you and have a conversation. Don't know if I'd buy one due to not wanting to be grouped into the same category as the typical owner of these. Doesn't mean they suck or aren't a quality product though.
You know what really hit me the most about the Slingshot? It doesn't feel like "kit car" or some kind of contraption, it's well balanced and refined, it really feels like an actual proper sensible vehicle
Doug made simple “THHHIIIISSSSS” into something special and I have to say, Kennan’s waves with the “hi everyone” and “goodbye” makes me feel all warm inside. Have we met? No. Are we somehow friend? I think so!
I will always associate these with people who think they are far cooler than they are. Like a local guy a couple years ago who was kicked out of a Poker Run because it's not a motorcycle. He then proceeded to get pissy, smashed the gas pulling out of the parking lot, drove it straight into a 4 ft deep ditch. Or the guy who drives around with the radio cranked, with a subwoofer in there somewhere, and LED light strips on every angle of bodywork that pulses with the beat. He also tried a stop light race with C7 Corvette. Didn't go in his favor
And who exactly are you to make a determination about someone's "cool factor"? See that's the problem, you can't even enjoy something these days without someone else judging how you spend your money. In my community everyone has ridiculously lifted trucks, some people have their trucks slammed to the ground, some ride motorcycles, and then there are those like me that have a combination of almost everything I just mentioned. Do you think you know me personally?
I must be getting old, because to me a boosted S2000 or ND miata would make a better (& much safer) drop top experience... Not to mention the handling would be much improved.
I wish people would stop trying to compare Polaris Slingshots to Miata's, or any of those other small sports cars. This is a completely different experience, not even remotely the same thing. Just like the two-wheeled motorcycle crowd the three-wheeled crowd is extremely strong, and if we want it to own a Miata we would have just went and bought one. I remember when Miata owners would get upset when people would laugh at them for calling miata's sports cars, but it really didn't matter what they thought, you drove it because you enjoyed it, that's the same thing with the Polaris Slingshot or any of the other three wheelers.
