Well, my own view is, and despite these other comments, I thought it was a good film about a nice place and community, and I'd like to go there and I'd probably stay cos I'd feel at home. I'm a million miles away, an Englishman living in England, where it's cold, cloudy and dark, I'm lonely and miserable and have no life. Slab city is warm and sunny and interesting, that's how it looks to me, I envy those Slabbers their life there and reckon I'd be a happy Slabber myself. One day, when it's just too bad to bear here, I'll make for Slab city. Thanks for this film, I loved seeing it. Alan, UK.
If you’re lonely in a place as crowded as England why do you think that would suddenly change in a squatter camp in the Commiefornia desert? I’m sure you have more in common with your neighbors than you realize and they would love to be your friends.
Youre just watching a short 10 minute video. its like a family picture where everyone smiles and looks happy but its just one picture not their actual life. Sometimes things can seem so great on the outside until you really get a real good look at what its really like on the inside. Think about this place in actuality where do they get all of their food and water and other things that you need to survive? Do they all have generators for electric? etc etc
Well, Dave, that's because we have 320 million people living here. There was a time when you could find places to live where no one would bother you... but not in your lifetime or mine. Every state that became a part of the United States agreed that open lands belonged to the Federal Government. Every one of those states requested the privilege of being a part of USA. If you squat somewhere, you are either on private land or government land... you are doing nothing to contribute to society, and in all liklihood you are taking from society in some way (stealing, soup kitchens, welfare, etc). Those who don't participate or contribute have few rights and little sympathy.

That's. The way it should be that's the way I lived for years. I feel more humble. In a place like that then I did living in the city's. Love faith and hope. The feeling of freedom. It's was wonderful life I'm really thinking about going back to that way even at my age it sounds great
I want to donate to this place materials for infrastructure. Maybe bamboo to build homes. A water system to everybody homes or tent . It would make it more modern but still keep the same community intent .

+Dwight Stewart: You only offer your opinion, you gave no proof. That's cool, one man's dream is another man's nightmare... Freedom comes with many different ideas. Freedom for these people depicted in the video is related to the overreach of Government into their lives. They do not want a nanny state whereby they must do this or must to that under the supervision of the government. This is the freedom they seek. They want government out of their lives, the freedom they seek is to be free on the land God gave to man.... Cheers -
2xtream Overreach of Government? Nanny state? You mean laws to prevent crimes and protect freedoms, and the police to enforce them. Get real. I've encountered this type many times before. These people have their own twisted "laws" of sort, enforced in their own way. I'd much rather have the sanity of our "system" than the intolerant chaos of their often drunken, insane, madness.
+Dwight Stewart: What you're in love with are "YOUR" dreams and these people wish you would keep YOUR dreams to yourself in your Own Mind and Lever them the hell alone... Don't you understand in your OWN statement you say "I'd" (that's your opinion)... It's YOU and those like you that have nothing better to do than stick your nose in other people's business. Like I told you before, It's YOUR KIND they are trying to get the hell away from. Do them a favor and get the hell out of there life, keep you nose in your own home... There is no other place to go. But if you're such a great guy and wish to help out, why don't you invite them into your home ehh? ok STHU - - -
2xtream Whoa. Reality check, guy. Me and those like me? You mean the 300 million plus people of this country, most preferring a more lawful, sane, civilized society? Contrary to your weird notions, we're not bothering those people. I don't know any of them and haven't said a damn thing to them. In other words, I'm not "in their life," jerk. I have to camp away from everybody. When I was younger I been around these type of people. Most are druggies and drinkers. They constantly mooching off of people.
In the opening of this video, before you said where it was, I thought I recognized it. I stayed there for two days about 5-6 years ago, in the broiling hot summer heat and my generator was broken so no AC, nothing bad happened. I did not approach anyone and no one approached me, at least, not during the waking hours. I do not know what might have happened during the night, I was sleeping.

gage4g ....I don't live there, but have considered going homeless to pay off all my bills and save for a house. I'm 41, don't drink or do drugs, never have. I'm not even 420 friendly, except for cbd oil on medical. I'm sure that most people there are alcoholics, druggies and criminals, but don't put them all into one box, because they are not all that way! There are families who are down on their luck, or people with medical problems. I'm sure there are even people like me, who work, but are still living paycheck to paycheck and cannot pay off their bills or save. Keep us in mind as you judge. Some people are honest and just trying to get ahead in life!
@Catherine Buck ...I'm sorry about your situation! My mom broke her neck at age 19. She was in a wheelchair the rest of her life. Not paralyzed but, couldn't walk again. She had met my dad in physical therapy. He was her aid lol. They were married and that's how my brother n I were born. They eventually were divorced. I grew up in foster care. My brother remained with my mom. That is just a brief summary to let you know you're not alone and good things do come out of the bad. If my mom never got injured, my brother and I wouldn't exist. Sometimes even, certain blessings can only come through hardship. That's not to say we are happy to go through hardship, especially when we don't see the future. We don't see how anything good will come and we can often blame God. Not that you have but either way, I do believe, and yet, I have anger too. I never thought I would be a 42 year old woman with no kids. I too am on disability for depression and more and I still work part time. I don't judge others being on it because I know how it is. I have worked off n on through the years but never really seem to become anything. I have skills, desires and sometimes goals but my depression is a real kicker in the ass lol. The greatest hope I have is in God, which for me is what keeps me from killing myself lol. Don't give up hope because you don't know where homelessness could lead you. It's still on my mind too. Jesus was homeless and I almost feel called to let it all go and get out there on the street lol. For you, it could just be an in between place, or bridge to your next great place or endeavor. Maybe there is some kind of work you are meant to do and it can only be done if you're in the same boat, but what ever the case is, don't give up hope and always try to have a goal. If you go to slab, then go with a goal and prepare ahead for safety! P.S, if you apply for SSI, (Supplemental Security Income) you'll only get $760 but, if you apply for Social Security Disability, you'll get more based on the taxes you paid, plus, you are allowed more part time working hours without losing your disability income. SSI and SSDI are different. Also, Disability gives you automatic Medicare which pays 80%. I am on Disability and receive $940.00 a month. It goes up yearly as I continue to work and pay taxes. You'd probably get more than I currently do based on all the years you worked!
There really is no nees for me to even attempt any type of comment due to the undeniable fact that the people and this so called city speak for themselves .....all i can offer is a gigantic """"WHAT THE FUCK""""
A wise man once said, "I think, therefore I am". How do you see yourself? It takes a mean spirited person to make a comment such as yours. Perhaps you have some problems in life? Most of us do, but to denigrate this fellow who was honest enough to share his past and who is obviously an asset to his community, however odd you may think it is probably says a lot about you, friend. Another wise man once said, "He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone". If Builder Bill is happy doing what he does all the way out there in the desert why go out of your way to judge him or detract from the happiness he derives from being the person he is? Maybe your rude comment makes you feel like less of a bum? By the way, I'd ask that same question to the 129 other people who thought you were so clever. You should spend more time learning how to be happy.

There's a whole of of regret, bad life choices, substance abuse and selfishness in slab city. Like the Salton Sea, I think a catharsis is in order. A few D-8 Caterpillars and some control burns.
slab city has a lot of crazy people
I often come thru on my way to and from Tucson to SanDiego...
Always meet awesome people..
Next time I'm gonna jam out at the range !!
America needs more free places to sleep/live. I'm embarrassed by the country I saluted to.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 And you still here. Shut up.
I knew "Squatters " at old Mining camps . First thing was to develop the Springs for a Water spruce, then a tent, or an Abandoned house to live in. They didn't need TV, radio , I went with my Dad to visit some men and My Dad as Farmer brought them a sack of spuds ,onions a banana squash , .for a.grub stake. . Where have all the Pensioners gone? To the tent city every one. ,
Cool, I little glimpse of the average American future.
Is there an uncut version of Frank's tour? I need that. Felt like the Jungle Cruise comedy
No shower no toilet no water NO WAY !!
What was the name of the artist/song in the first part of the video?
Live on Brothers and Sisters:)Cheers;)
Dude was actually a good tour guide
I’m always curious how safe it is there~
I don't think it IS safe...
Hills have 👀 types people are eager for you're arrival, be sure to bring them some money to give them--- { you wouldn't want to get on their bad side right off the bat }
They control and run these type places, and now charging rent for slab spaces also--- < no longer FREE 😮😭😱 >
IF you dont wanna pay, theyl wait till you " go to town " and BURN your place down!🔥
If you still dont get the hint and leave, < they label people like this
a " malcontent " and they have ways of making people they dont want around! 👹🤡☠😮😱😭
It's a mighty big desert out there, and digging EASY < sand > in the desert, { after theve had their FUN with you of course. 🎩

Where do you get money from where do you get food from ?
Looks like the hills have eyes family built a city
I have to camp away from everybody. When I was younger I been around these type of people. Most are druggies and drinkers. They constantly mooching off of people.
In the opening of this video, before you said where it was, I thought I recognized it. I stayed there for two days about 5-6 years ago, in the broiling hot summer heat and my generator was broken so no AC, nothing bad happened. I did not approach anyone and no one approached me, at least, not during the waking hours. I do not know what might have happened during the night, I was sleeping.
horseflys are brutal..when they stab you with that blood sucking sword mouth piece..ouch
It’s got some horses and it’s got some guns. That’s pretty much all you need for a monument.
Truth!
that close to salton sea the dirt is contaminated for sure
A real shit hole
Shiton Sea....
What’s that song called at 8:40?
okay Slab City looks a little too scary for me
You're a gypsy.
Rumor has it these are where the original burners ended up.
Am I crazy for thinking that in a way this is kinda beautiful?
It's kinda crazy because I'm pretty materialistic but this ...idk it moves something within me.
ally, you are much to pretty for this place...stick with your penthouse apt and your materialistic needful things
+dave lastman All though my apartment and life are really nice, sometimes it's cool to just get away and experience something different I was in slab city last month and felt good TBH. Just thinking and talking about makes me want to go back. It felt so freeing.
+dave lastman but thanks for saying I'm Pretty lol😭💕
lol
pretty ally...how the heck are you
Who sings the song at the beginning. "We are America" can't find it, totally Love it
I hear is not a good place to many problems and they burn each others homes there.
Do what ya want in life!!! But DON'T EAT FOOD GROWN IN YOUR OWN SHIT!!
It amazes me that these people don't want to pay rent. I "assume" no money. But can afford drugs, alcohol and Tobacco.
gage4g not ever body be a straight edge vegan, chill
Sorry but they look like a bunch of losers
gage4g rent sucks drugs are fun...........
gage4g ....I don't live there, but have considered going homeless to pay off all my bills and save for a house.
Guy giving the tour was an airline pilot for sure! 😆
The lady with the spine injury is sooooooo Tweak out. look at her pupils. she's trippin or tweakin. and they all think its a secret
There really is no nees for me to even attempt any type of comment due to the undeniable fact that the people and this so called city speak for themselves .....all i can offer is a gigantic """"WHAT THE FUCK""""
I like the bottle wall guy but he kind a has a sutle "it puts the lotion in the basket" vibe.
👍" could you just help me put this couch into the van..."
HAHAHAH
Pretty sure that is Huey Lewis's twin brother, and yes he has a special Buffalo Bill vibe about him.
Russell DoFrane lmao
I was trying to remember who that guy reminded me of - you got it!
Every man or women have their own right to decide his or her destiny. ....
If you have to keep reiterating how living there is a choice, then it seems pretty obvious that it wasn't a choice.
It was their last choice
Just wondering what happens to all those couches after a heavy rain..do they become giant sponges?
Maybe plastic covers them
It's the desert things dry very quickly
Mad max?
What is the name of the group that was playing at the 9:03 point in the video?
+Katherine Nelson I like your name. The credits listed music by "Doctor Stryker".
"for 15 years i was a bum on the street". Now your just a Bum in the Desert.
@@davesilverman3325 you must be joking right , mean spirited if you using sudo intellectual comments to garner an emotional response of guilt try again ...
Life gives us choices, mine would be ‘never ‘ to visit or live in Slab City! But, each to their own, if it’s your choice then great, I’m not here to judge. But I’ll be staying far away 🌏🌍🌎
Your spot on. The stale smell of cigarettes, booze and bad decisions
You grow your own food from your own poop. Thats safe right!?
I don’t think so!
That's because you know very little. In reality, though, compost is a great nutritious attribution to the soil for growing food.
Dovenpeis compost is great, it's a good way to enrich soil. Generally speaking though, the higher up the food chain an animal is the higher the fecal heavy metal levels are.
This is why human meat and human fertilizer are terrible ideas, like eating shark or polar bear. The pollution is bioaccumulated.
It's safe if you don't eat meat
So most everyone there is on SSD how else they pay for beer ,smokes, food
I am from India.I want to live my whole life there.I know that's the life i have wanted.
Just step out the door in India. India is already a cess pool. lol
Yes, India is a cesspool; filthy etc
Open up a curry shop in slab city...

Edmond Lee Amen
Around 8:40 - I mean, look, you can invite me over after I've drunk half a bottle of bourbon and I'll sing bad songs for you WITHOUT you having to drop out of society and having to live in a literal furnace. Just saying
6:41 she's high as a kite!!
Some hallucinogen for sure, eyes very dilated.
@@phillhuddleston9445 could be meth or heroin
