    Wonderful! All that is missing is an endless or infinity pool in the garden and the estate will be like in a fairy tale 🤩

    I can’t believe it’s Ben 10 years😳 you guys did an amazing job. It looks like a Home out of a magazine in my view, I love everything about it my gosh, it’s a gorgeous home!! I love the way you have the books stacked on the floor. I’ve been trying to figure out a bookcase for my books and this gives me a wonderful idea.😀 I love the bathrooms. I love the tiles that you used. I was actually trying to get the same tile here in the USA when I really did my bathroom and I couldn’t find anything that looks like your tiles so I could not do it.🤷‍♀️ yes, I remember when you guys first got the keys and went into the house and all that so it’s been a wonderful experience watching your RUclips channel throughout all of us renovation. I know it was a rough for you guys especially when you were trying to take a shower with the hose and wash dishes😂 and remembering the Tile Guy just quit on you guys and you had to get your neighbor to show you how to finish tiling the bathroom😅 i’m sure it’s much more comfortable right now since you’ve got your kitchen bathroom and sleeping area all done and you just have to deal with the other stuff room by room and just finish it, but you feel like you’re not as much as of a rush as you are before because you are renting somewhere else. Anyway, I could write a book just commenting, so I’m gonna stop here. Congratulations for all that you guys have done so far.

    You guys did an amazing job!! It looks fabulous!
    Ever since I read an article in 2019 about the $1 houses thing I’ve always wanted to buy a rundown house in Italy and fix it up. I’m on all the time looking at houses.
    But you guys make me want to actually pull the trigger and turn it from a pipe dream into the real thing.
    Thank you so much for documenting your journey for us and I can’t wait to see what else you have lined up!

      Thank you so much! I think you must be even more brave than us if you consider a 1€ house 😅 I'd never have the courage to do that.
      I can recommend you to have a look at houses further up in Monferrato (especially Casorzo) if you're looking for a bargain. So many villages up there are pretty much dying out, and the house prices are a lot cheaper.
      Thanks again for your kind words and for following our journey.

    I so appreciate this video. Having watched many of your videos throughout the remodel was informative. But to see the before and after like this is a testament to your design skills and shows what can be done with these old farmhouses. We just purchased a similar home to the north of your spot. We have to get an architect (geometra) because of the historic status of the building. My journey is just beginning. I hope you love being in the space you have created.

      @OurItalianDreamHouse  10 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you So much for your kind words Mickey! And congratulations to your own house purchase, you're in for a ride haha.
      I think all bigger renovations need a geometra in Italy. If there's any advice I can give on that is to be reaaaally careful with who you chose and make sure to double check they are licensed and have good references of previous projects (unfortunately, I speak from our own experience here). And again, don't even pay the geometra anything in advance - they can really turn your life into a nightmare if they're not doing a good job.

      @@OurItalianDreamHouse Our Goemetra was referred to us by the realtor we used. I have checked credentials but not references. As a contractor myself I was immediately impressed with how Matteo responded to my questions and had good answers for solutions. I think it is always a matter of relationships when you pick a person to work with on such intimate matters. Being able to have a common goal and working together. I am just so excited to have this project. And the opportunity to have a place to stay in Europe every year. So much warmer than Denmark.

    You have done a wonderful job. Great that you filmed both before and after for memories. I understand your feelings on the matter, but personally I believe that if you had rented, you would still be going as the dead rent money couldn't have been spent on your home. No time lost to travel either. Wonderful that you can laugh at some of the things now, which sort of makes up for the 'downs' of the rebuild. Best wishes.

      Thank you so much Shirley! On that you are absolutely right. The first 6 months we rented an apartment about 50km away from the house, so every day we spent about 90 min in the car driving back and forth. That's why we decided to just go with it and move into the house when we did. However, we could def have done with 3 more months in the apartment for the sake of our mental health haha.

    Hi, guys! Thanks a lot, you are an inspiration! :))) my husband and I are also dreaming of moving to Italy some day, so thank you for all your tips and tricks :) Maybe you could tell a bit more on your work with geometra (sorry, if spelling is wrong!), as far as I understand they play a vital role in finding the construction workers and in terms of permits. I think a lot of us „dreamers“ could use your advice! Thanks in advance!

    • @OurItalianDreamHouse
      @OurItalianDreamHouse  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Anastasiya, thank you so much for following our journey. HA, the geometra situation is a tricky one for us. For now all I can say is (unfortunately): dont trust your real estate agents recommendations on geometra. And make sure that the one you go with is licensed and have real references from previous renovations like yours 😂 having a good geometra with local knowledge and respect in the community is key to have a successful renovation. Unfortunately we hear about many other bad experiences so it’s important to do your research very well on who to hire.

      @OurItalianDreamHouse  8 месяцев назад

      wow Barbara, thank you so much for your kind words ❤️ Our kitchen is the classic IKEA Metod with Lerhyttan fronts, Havsen zink and Delsjön tap. We have painted all the fronts in the same dark green (NCS S7502-G) as the walls, the counter top is a 3cm Carrara marble and we have brushed brass with leather handles from Beslagsbutiken in Sweden 🥰

      @Barbara_M. 8 месяцев назад

      @@OurItalianDreamHouse oh thank you so much for these info! I've just bought my very first house and I need to go shopping for kitchen although mine is almost a corner rather than a full room arrangement.... I really like the paint you choose very matte but I'm afraid I won't be able to paint it myself is the paint from Ikea too? I like green as well either grey-green like yours or blue-green... and frankly both top and handles are very much my taste 😊

    • @OurItalianDreamHouse
      @OurItalianDreamHouse  8 месяцев назад

      @@Barbara_M. Wow, congratulations. That's huge! In Stockholm our kitchen was a lot smaller and we had similar painted fronts (same colour but IKEA Bodbyn), you can find pictures on our Instagram under the highligt "previous projects" ☺ The paint is not from IKEA but is just a regular universal paint, in Italy called Smalto. We found that the paint we had in stockholm was a lot easier to work with and didnt leave brush marks as easy as this. We just sanded the fronts lightly first (pretty sure it's in an old youtube episode about the kitchen) so you should give it a go. Maybe buy One front and try if you can do it, haha. I love the functionality of IKEAs kitchens. And since the kitchen is something which gets heavy usage in our home, I find it really great that you can just replace things if they get manky, haha.

    I'm watching your u tubes starting at the beginning and have gotten to where you lost the contractor. So sorry. I'm a furniture and cabinet maker/ contractor my self and in 45 years of business I have never walked out on any job unfinished. even working in not the best environment. Or losing money even. Not once. It's really awful what happens in this field.
    My question is.......where are you guys from? I thought at first you were from Canada. but it seems you're Swedish maybe. I'm assume you must have addressed this somewhere else, but I haven't run across it yet.
    I am wishing so much i could do this as well, and I live in a hundred year old house here in Houston that I re did twice. I am 75 so this might be a little late for me.But I still dream about it.
    you guys are doing great though. hang in there. also, what are your names. sound quality and all, I never seem to catch them.

      Thank you SO much for such a sweet comment, Wayne!
      Really happy to have you following our journey.
      Regarding the contractor we actually found out later on that it was all due to a dispute with our so called "geometra" who has done an absolutely awful job and annoyed everyone involved in the project - several other contractors have refused dealing with him and almost walked out as well (some walked out, but more about that another time). But hey, my Italian coordinating/yelling/hustling-vocabulary is now great 😂
      You are partly correct - I (Emelie) am Swedish but Edward is from the UK. He has almost completely lost his British accent though over the years so it might be hard to pick up on, haha.
      Oh Wayne, it's never too late to follow you dreams. We're rooting for you 🥳
      Again, thank you so much for your support!

      @@OurItalianDreamHouse Oh that's too funny. It's him who seems to get stuck for the right English word sometimes. you often feed him the word. hahaha
      We just got back from Scotland and I'm hoping our next trip can be Italy.
      I am serious, I'd love to do this, but I don;t think I could ever get my wife to leave our kids and grand kids behind. We don't have the money to have as an extra house. we'd have to sell out and move there. but we could easily finance a rebuild if we did that.but I do enjoy watching several of you on u tube doing this. carry on. I live vicariously. Love that funny puppy too.
