  • Video of Michael Evanko fly fishing Laurel Hill Creek in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, as well as the Casselman River in Garrett County, Maryland. The section of water fished on the Laurel Hill Creek is part of Pennsylvania's Keystone Select Trout Program. This video was shot on St. Patty's Day 2018. The trout caught in the video were caught on Green Copper John, Prince Nymph, Squirmy Wormy, and Hares Ear patterns.

Nice video, Mike! On Select Harvest DHALO, don't they stock big fish? I'm disappointed there were only small ones.

    Mike
Finally got up to Casselman yesterday afternoon, also worked the the same piece of water with similar results they really like that Hare's ear. Worked up to the bridge still large amount of fish there but the Temp dropped & wind picked up started freezing my eyelets shut.
Again thanks of the job you doing look forward to hitting some new water.

It's really cool when you find a run or pocket that holds multiple fish in an otherwise shallow stream. That could be my favorite type of fly fishing. Last season in the Sierras though was like fishing Niagara Falls because of the heavy snow melt. The copper John is a very productive pattern here in the West as well. Thanks for the excellent video Mike!

Nice Video Dude! Loved both of those streams. The Green copper john looked interesting. I tie my own squirmies but never with a chartreuse bead! I bet it gets their attention!

No. Laurel Hill Creek never touches the castleman. It flows directly into the yough just north of confluence. The castleman joins the yough just south of confluence.

    Hey Mike,
I hit Casselman that morning unfortunately the river was very slushy visible ice on water. It was 17 deg. my flyline, leader and flys all froze up..Maryland DNR had just stock the day before. Glad to see it warmed up for you. The day wasn't a total loss I hit Jennings run near Barrelville tricked a few rainbows into taking fly. Can't wait to get up there this weekend.
Great job Mike keep it up..

It's great to see a video like this fishing water that I know and fish all the time. I live near the casselman and I fish laurel hill creek alot too. You should try fishing the creek that runs into laurel hill lake above the park because they stock that pretty heavily with brookies. And also the spillway at the head of the creek holds a good many fish too. Then with the casselman they always stalk that very well and u can even go out at the hottest parts of summer and catch trout. I've lived here my whole life and fished these waters and it's great to see a video like this one them. Great video man, keep it up

To bad you didn't fish the boy scout camp on the Laurel Hill stream , that is the where the big trout are . Turn off 31 at Bakersville .You will have to walk in this time of year because the road is closed for snowmobiles . The road opens at the end of March . Another great video , thanks

so how many fish between the 2 rivers hit the first top fly and do you thing the Casselman trout are more wild than the planted stocked fish at hill creek?/I have learned Wild fish jump and fight more than stocked plated fish.

    • @WoolyBugged
      @WoolyBugged  6 лет назад

Italian Troutaholic I think all those fish were stocked trout. It’s possible Laurel Hill has a wild fish but not likely!

    • @WoolyBugged

That Casselman looks like some real clear water. You are a real expert at flyfishing and it's always nice to see new water. Wanted to ask you, do you use a certain size lightning strike indicator? I bought a different brand and it's always too small and gets submerged.

Eileen, the sign in the video explains it all. You can fish year round there, but you can harvest (keep fish) only between June and September.

I believe this is the DHALO section of Laurel Hill near Paddytown off of Humbert road. Laurel Hill is close to the Casselman and the Yough at that point.
