I'm in York Co Pa and a few years ago at a festival I found a local gold panners club that a member found enough gold in the conewago creek here in York Co in one weekend to make his and his wife's wedding rings made! I found that to be fascinating! Great video 💯👍🇺🇲
My high school science teacher used to sink a box in one of our local creeks and collect from it about once a year. He claimed he would harvest about an ounce of gold from it every year. He would leave it in the creek to do its job. He was a very interesting teacher and knew a lot of things that I had an interest including beekeeping. He actually had hives in our courtyard. Anyway, he's long passed and I remember the name of the creek. I was surprised by it. I'm guessing that you only mentioned the bigger creeks in our state that hold gold. Some of the creeks in Northeastern Pa were a surprise for me when you mentioned they held gold. I used to fish the Tunkanhock with my father as a boy. Where dad built his summer home is basically coal country. Thanks for the information.

Law enforcement and the judicial system are run by people. It will never matter how good something is in theory if it is run by people... it's run by flawed creatures. People get things wrong. People pay the price. The law has been dead wrong a million times. There are crooked cops. There are all kinds of judges and all kinds of kangaroo courts and all kinds of "oopsie... we never got your registration" (Except you absolutely sent them your registration) etc etc. The scariest thing on this planet is blind loyalty. Anyone who assumes anyone who came in contact with the law is wrong... is one lucky and wrong SOB. Just for example... my girlfriend was pulled over (for not a single reason)... and then because it was after midnight (her shift just ended)... they called her "lethargic" and unlawfully searched my car without either of our permission... they found her PRESCRIPTION of xanax... and arrested her. I had to go get her out. Total cost... including a lawyer... 7 thousand dollars and 50 hours community service. They would not provide their body cam nor dash footage during discovery. Why? Because they were also sexually harrassing her and they had absolutely zero reason to do any of it. Zero. She used to think cops were good and she was on their "side". She literally was terrified to drive for an entire year. I had to do it. Every single drive. Because ya know... EVERYTHING can be fucked up. And the ones that ALWAYS are... are the ones that have people blindly defending them. There are much... much worse stories. But yea... the whole system failed. My girlfriend got pulled over for having a job... and then arrested for having a prescription for anxiety. And guess what? I paid for most of it. Because she couldn't work for a bit. Because she was terrified of driving for a bit. SO yea.... I'd say... rethink what you said. My nearly 8 thousand dollar hole in my pocket and heart (it was my moving out money)... they want to slap you silly.

In fact, my brother's lawyer was sent to prison a couple years afterward, and I could say more, so try not to make assumptions why this person moved. I would do about anything to be able to move.
Super pumped to learn Slippery Rock Creek is on the list- you mentioned the Morraine deposit- does that mean any other stream on that deposit could have gold? I live in that area, specifically on the Connoquenessing been meaning to try on there for a while
I’m not familiar with that one. Best way to get information is to join groups on Facebook and ask the members. There’s a lot highly experienced prospectors out there
I’ve worked the Towanda creek many times. There’s gold but it’s patchy but it does have good pockets. I recommend getting a strong magnet and test the areas for maganite/iron/black sand. If you find good black sand in Towanda creek you’ll be in good shape

ive found a small amount near conellsville pa working in a local creek ,plus in some of the old iron ore workings crushing the stone not much but its fun to look for ,alot of iron pyrite locked in stone also
I had a theory the other year about glacial till and where they could be drained out from and what mountains would have been a dam like effect. Hint susquehanna leaks out the mountains in Potter county. Also....a book was written year ago with maps about gold in pa. Geri Jones the state geologist made it.
I know Brady’s run yes. I don’t know if it’s allowed but most parks won’t raise a fuss if you pan without going crazy digging holes. Little hand shovel and a pan just poke around and sample won’t bother anyone. Leave the place smoothed out the way you found it.
Do you have a video on the methods of mining and prospecting in Pennsylvania that are allowed.. as well as do you have to be a member of an association to prospect in that state..
Harrisburg area here. Never thought the Susquehanna would have much gold in it, but you're right about the bedrock. Never thought of that i think I'm gonna try digging out some of the potholes like that. Is there any groups in my area? I really want to get me and my son into prospecting and panning but have never actually done it before and could use some mentors with experience willing to teach us. Or at least people to help with questions and advice. Also what about really shallow creeks? My aunt has one in her backyard it's pretty big but usually VERY shallow. Not a lot of boulders but plenty of bedrock. I wonder if it would be worth checking out with one of those portable sluices
Depth is a factor in HAVING gold, but plays a role in actually harvesting gold. Shallow is good, it provides access. Truly, water ways value is that it washes away lighter overburden. Western Pennsylvania gold prospectors is a Facebook group that has people from all over the state and even a few other states, including geologists that can answer questions

Nice! Thinking about heading up to Slippery Rock today to scrape out some cracks. Im building a mini hand suction pump to use up there. However it seems like every hardware store i go to is out of the Caps i need lol. Go figure.

Are glacial erratics a good sign to look for? I live in western PA, there is a nice stream by my house that has tons of those house sized and smaller boulders. I wasn't sure if there was gold in PA. I always wanted to try panning.
Fascinating, thing I learned today, I had no idea. I'm taking it that "bedrock" is the source of the gold and basically we're waiting for it to weather out, or look for ice age deposits to have done that job for us. I mean, I knew the ice shields made it to southern PA but never put two plus two together that there would be a "Moraine" state park, will have to check it out, beautiful areas regardless.
No the gold will settle onto the bedrock. Gold is heavy so it sinks to the bottom. The cracks and crevices in the bedrock is where the gold gets trapped as the river pushes it down stream

It really depends on your location but all of the ones I listed have public access in neighboring state parks. Cost is strictly the equipment you use. Gold pans are like $10-$20 online. Thanks for the kind words I will keep them coming!

I don’t know the specific spots, but peters is very popular so I’m sure there are designated areas. For the most part anything associated with state parks, panning is legal

I sent two random samples in for assay here in Schuylkill Co of the red iron stone from 2 different areas and the report showed invisible gold up to 5g/ton, silver 2g/ton, and quantities of all 6 of the PGMs... I was kinda blown away.
Geri Jones the state geologist said every creek in Pa. has some gold. Peters creek is mostly private, but a Geological survey showed evidence of the early 1930's when they used mercury to extract the gold from creeks. They found slag residues that looked like clumps of lead after they cooked off the mercury.

I live in central PA and fish creeks all over the state and i never once saw anybody panning for gold. I am an avid fisherman . Yea i been thinking shy would there be no gold.

Is there any possibility there are streams and creeks in Lower Bucks Co. Near N.E.Philadelphia that have gold ? I live near Neshaminy Creek . It seems like there are parts of this creek that fits the characteristics of the top 9 creeks you mentioned. Thanks 😊
Definitely a possibility, gold can be found in a lot of unsuspecting places. The quantity will certainly vary. But you should pan 1 full 5 gallon buck of classified material to get a good gauge

I live minutes from hammer creek (#6 ) in lancaster county . Do you know which area of hammer creek is the best ? Asking cause there are splits in that creek . Any info on middle creek ? Tia
I don’t know exact areas, this was a submission from friends of other gold groups… but typically in PA, a creek with gold should have traces all throughout. Look for the drop zones where gold accumulates

Prospecting? Tom massey of the GPAA says this, "It's not about having the gold, it's about FINDING the gold [anticipation and fun with friends and family]". Tom once found so much in one river hole in CA that he saved it all just as is. The hole was between two steep mountain hills in a deep river crevace--in a spot 80' deep that they dove down to. People ask him, "What did you do with it all?", and he always answers, "I still have it!" I can't remember how much gold it was--seems like they said 80+ pounds??--not sure. I know it wasn't grams. But he is cheerful, down to earth, is not competitive with others and just has fun "finding" the gold. His late father founded the GPAA. Anticipation that's healthy is hope, and good for great downtime, so as far as health, yes, even if you only ever find a crumb.
The only thing with panning in these creeks is it would take forever to even make a decent amount of money doing it when you only get a couple flakes at a time

Just make sure you're allowed (property wise). One and only thing that matters that none of these youtubers talk about, rules and regulations. Depending on where it's at you might not even be able to take prospect it
@@shenanigans8apeach Usually state parks let you pan, but sometimes no machinery, just hand-panning abd opened equipment, and leave it clean and fill in any holes. As far as private property, just ask permission. Prospecting groups you can join often have more specific guidelines they've researched. I'm in southcentral PA.

Also they mine off goldmine road in lebanon county, which the stream that flows out of that mountain is swatara creek. also off goldmine is another treat, the chinese wall(a natural upright wall) the rolled quartz and other minerals int he conglomerations is awesome. then theres the gold delta triangle that is talked about in gerrys book ...gold in pa. hes a geologist that did a yearly demonstration in a gold bearing creek. Lancaster, reading area shows a ton of quartz dug up. I also question phoenixville with there pyromorphite finds. up north there were dedicated gold mines. in potter county they talked about the creeks outside of coudy with gold, garnets etc in it. off route 6 one year i got a small nugget in the spring, lol, then left after a timber rattler thought id might be warm spot to hang out on.

The one plac eintrigues me the most which i cannot get to it because its pa state game lands is off 850 near honey grove. the creek is riddled with conglomerates, and flour in quarts.

Building your own stuff is part of the fun, but with hand dredges, it’s fairly reasonable to buy them online. The money saved building is negligible.

Yes definitely good sign! Dig in hillsides near the bolders, right where the water level is

It really depends on your location but all of the ones I listed have public access in neighboring state parks. Cost is strictly the equipment you use. Gold pans are like $10-$20 online.

I don’t know the specific spots, but peters is very popular so I’m sure there are designated areas. For the most part anything associated with state parks, panning is legal

I sent two random samples in for assay here in Schuylkill Co of the red iron stone from 2 different areas and the report showed invisible gold up to 5g/ton, silver 2g/ton, and quantities of all 6 of the PGMs... I was kinda blown away.
Geri Jones the state geologist said every creek in Pa. has some gold.
Peters creek is mostly private, but a Geological survey showed evidence of the early 1930's when they used mercury to extract the gold from creeks. They found slag residues that looked like clumps of lead after they cooked off the mercury.

I live in central PA and fish creeks all over the state and i never once saw anybody panning for gold. I am an avid fisherman . Yea i been thinking shy would there be no gold.

Definitely a possibility, gold can be found in a lot of unsuspecting places. The quantity will certainly vary. But you should pan 1 full 5 gallon buck of classified material to get a good gauge

I don’t know exact areas, this was a submission from friends of other gold groups… but typically in PA, a creek with gold should have traces all throughout. Look for the drop zones where gold accumulates

Prospecting? Tom massey of the GPAA says this, "It's not about having the gold, it's about FINDING the gold [anticipation and fun with friends and family]". Tom once found so much in one river hole in CA that he saved it all just as is. The hole was between two steep mountain hills in a deep river crevace--in a spot 80' deep that they dove down to. People ask him, "What did you do with it all?", and he always answers, "I still have it!" I can't remember how much gold it was--seems like they said 80+ pounds??--not sure. I know it wasn't grams. But he is cheerful, down to earth, is not competitive with others and just has fun "finding" the gold. His late father founded the GPAA. Anticipation that's healthy is hope, and good for great downtime, so as far as health, yes, even if you only ever find a crumb.

The only thing with panning in these creeks is it would take forever to even make a decent amount of money doing it when you only get a couple flakes at a time

@@shenanigans8apeach Usually state parks let you pan, but sometimes no machinery, just hand-panning abd opened equipment, and leave it clean and fill in any holes. As far as private property, just ask permission. Prospecting groups you can join often have more specific guidelines they've researched. I'm in southcentral PA.

also a well being dug in perry county and a couple ounce found. Also they mine off goldmine road in lebanon county, which the stream that flows out of that mountain is swatara creek. also off goldmine is another treat, the chinese wall(a natural upright wall) the rolled quartz and other minerals int he conglomerations is awesome. then theres the gold delta triangle that is talked about in gerrys book ...gold in pa. hes a geologist that did a yearly demonstration in a gold bearing creek.
Lancaster, reading area shows a ton of quartz dug up. I also question phoenixville with there pyromorphite finds.
up north there were dedicated gold mines. in potter county they talked about the creeks outside of coudy with gold, garnets etc in it. off route 6 one year i got a small nugget in the spring, lol, then left after a timber rattler thought id might be warm spot to hang out on.

@@Gasp7000 in ickes...old newspapers showed a well was dug and a gold layden quarts was removed from the bottom of the well. also Red shale has something to do with what was a large mudd trap for gold. The one plac eintrigues me the most which i cannot get to it because its pa state game lands is off 850 near honey grove. the creek is riddled with conglomerates, and flour in quarts.
