Idk I feel like the second song missed the entire vibe of the original. It's supposed to be a somber haunting piece about a young man begging and pleading with death who craves and cares for only one think, your eternal soul.
The song seems written from the view of a young guy dying of a fever. But Ralph Stanley was up their in age when he sang this I believe. Ralph Stanley does my favorite type of music. For me the second guy took a good song that has depth and soul and ruint it.
I'm not saying the Khemmis version is bad, but the song is so much more impactful and haunting without all the instrumentation. I don't really know how else to say it other than they were trying too hard. Just my opinion of course.
Khemmis is ridiculously under rated. I started listening to them shortly after Hunted released and they never miss.
Ralph Stanley
1927-2016
Godfather of all bluegrass
That's wild dude. Imagine how strange the world looked to him in his final years compared to in his youth.
O Death is written from the perspective of a young man dying of a fever.
I started listening to Khemmis last fall and they're incredible. Very underrated yet so talented. I hope you give them more reactions.
Love me some Ralph Stanley!! Also, O Brother, Where Art Though is such a good movie!! Can't count how many times I've seen it. Glad y'all did this one
Childhood memories came flooding back
man this always puts chills down my spine.
Wow! Caught me off guard. Ralph is amazing. Great reaction choice.
In this same vein, you should listen to "Death Don't Have No Mercy" by Rev. Gary Davis.
Watch some of your reviews. I'm glad you two are doing Khemmis. It's my favorite band

I don’t know about Khemmis. I need that Appalachian twang on O Death.
Ralph Stanley's version hit's way harder, it doesn't need all the embellishments that the 2nd version has.
Ralph Stanley is metal!
RIP Dr Ralph Stanley
I just googled the origins of this exact song a few hours ago. I'm very curious what you say about it. ^^

Ruined
But yes I agree they ruint a masterful and haunting song
nah, Khemmis's was much better than the original. Would not even bother to listen to the original a second time.
I have to agree... more isn't always better.
@@criseist9786 the Khemmis version is lame.

Ron Staley's version is far better because it is authentic. He really died two years later
Definitely prefer raw version by Dr Ralph Stanley.
