As someone whos worked in the auto industry in Alabama for almost 5 years, and who has a lot of friends on the lines, thank you for covering this. The workers of our state stand to gain a lot from organizing
I went to high school in Montgomery 15 years ago. We had programs in school that were intended to set us up with jobs in this Hyundai plant during our senior years. Knowing this is what they were trying to set us up for before we knew how bad it could be long term is genuinely upsetting

Alabama is number 6 in the US for the number of people receiving some form of government welfare assistance each month. That’s over 16,000 people for every 100,000 in the state. It’s time these folks get decent wages and a safe working environment. It’s 2024 and CEO’s are making millions and their workers aren’t making a living wage and getting injured on the job. I did subcontracting work for Ogihara when the auto plants in Alabama were only a few years old. An electrician's apprentice was killed one day. They shut that plant down and OSHA brought the hammer down til they were within regulations. It's so different now.
I worked for Hyundai Mobis for 4 months before I was fed up. It was one of the worst company cultures I had ever experienced. I hope this union can turn it around.

Perhaps, the underlying cause of these individuals' injuries might be linked to their unhealthy lifestyles. If you closely observe the video, a significant number of these automotive workers are either obese or morbidly obese. Introducing healthier individuals could potentially reduce the likelihood of injuries.
Your state created the scenario where they could lure an employer w/ promises of immunity and protections for them vs. you. I do understand that people w/ few opportunities for work can get desperate and start such lowest-common-denominator approaches to employment. That they simply want to work. But it is only a matter of time before you face the fact that current US economic policies and certainly non-traditional manufacturing states trying to lure manufacturing to their areas, are not balanced in their approach. You might be a voter, but until you have $, they don't care.
