the way I look at it, in the 80s 90s and early 2000s Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis were basically in a band called Janet Jackson

Another interesting fact about janet that I love. I think because her voice is more of a lighter lyric soprano people don’t truly pay attention to her vocally. She does vocal stacking which I love, meaning she harmonizes with herself several times on a track to create a wall of sound. This shows that she is a technically sound singer in my eyes. I love Janet’s harmonies.

Jam and Lewis started out in a band called The Time, that was associated with Prince. During the 80s they became highly successful producers. They wrote and produced a lot of hits but they're probably best known for their work with Janet (which started in 1986). "Janet" was actually their third album together.
As far as other Janet songs are concerned I'd recommend "Got Til it's Gone" next.

Loved Janet since the 80s. She was one of the few stars who were celebrating their black identity, singing political songs about racism/equality and also changing pop music instead of following trends. Icon

I was thirteen too! Loved Mariah Celine Whitney and Janet and Madonna. I was ur opposite. I remember the first time I heard this. She caused a scandal with the topless album cover and parents wouldn't let me listen to her. I had a Walkman raidio and the anchor announced 'new song from the new sexiest woman alive, Janet Jackson! that's the way love goes!' Memories....

Janet will always hold a special place in my heart. From her Early acting days on Good Times and Diff'rent Strokes to her growth as a Pop/R&B Singer she and her songs are a part of my childhood. She was my #1 artist (well til Mariah debuted) but Jimmy Jam and Teri Lewis are synonymous with Ms. Jackson(cause im nasty 😉🤭) because their collaborations are Legendary. Janet is so Versatile, she can sing any genre i.e. BLACK CAT

I like when people discover old hits, and Janet Jackson had quite a few, especially in the USA. Jackson, Jam, and Lewis were big collaborators for ten years or so until she decided to try a little something without them.
While she skews pop (duh), her production values and message are always top notch. I think her album "the Velvet Rope" is her best one, but not nearly as popular as janet. or Control. Her song "Got 'til it's Gone" is also a good listen as she pays homage to Joni Mitchell, with help from Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest. "Black Cat" was another hit of hers when she tried her hand at hard rock (which you may appreciate), and went into the top 10 of the Rock charts according to Billboard. But her forte is dance and New Jack Swing, imo

I was listening to Alternative music at the time also. Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Babes in Toyland, but also as a child was listening to Gogos, Pebbles, Paula Abdul, Neneh Cherry, Seduction, and Madonna and Janet.
My favorite Janet album is Control.

Lets go on a janet journey? If you want to hear great music production you're not going to find anyone better than Janet Jackson...I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map.
1st- "Rhythm Nation long form music video"
    2nd- 1987 Grammys/American Music awards live performances
3rd- albums Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet., the velvet rope.
Trust me when I say the music production janet brings is next to none. Great review. New subscriber

She released an album in 2015 and the first single she released from taht was called No Sleeep (not a misspelling) and is reminiscent of this track - she did a version alone and one with J Cole (the best one)

Janet has a streak of four solid albums. Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet., and the Velvet Rope. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis can do no wrong. I don’t see how every pop star in Hollywood isn’t trying to work with them or Patrick Leonard.

Nice reaction. I would start with the Rhythm Nation singles first and then review the rest of the Janet album singles from 1993. Her best album for many fans was the 1997 Velvet Rope album.

Love the lyric video. I know this song by heart. If you get a chance to see the music video, you'll see a young Jennifer Lopez as one of Janet's girlfriends dancing in the room they're hanging out in. This album showed a new, mature woman. Showing more skin in her music videos from this on forward and being in touch with her sensual/sexual side. The album cover for "janet" (lower case J) has her topless, arms raised over her head and hands (of her then husband Rene Elizondo) covering her breasts. When she does interviews, however, she's still comes across shy and reserve.

Jam and Lewis ruled pop and r&b. You should check out Alexander O'Neal who's second album Critisize was huge in England. The S O.S. Band, and Cherrelle are also acts produced by Jam and Lewis.
