- The Visby-class corvette is a formidable warship packed with advanced technology. At its forefront is a Bofors 57mm 70 SAK mkIII gun capable of firing up to 220 rounds per minute over a 17 km range. For distant threats, each corvette boasts eight anti-ship RBS15 mk2 missiles, with upgrades to the RBS15 mk4 for enhanced range and anti-jamming capabilities. Submarine threats are countered by ASW rocket-propelled grenades and torpedoes designed for the Baltic Sea’s complex underwater landscape.
Defensive measures include Sea Ceptor missiles with high supersonic speeds and ROVs for mine detection and disposal. A sophisticated CETRIS command system coordinates operations, supported by a radar suite, sonar systems, and the Saab Microwave Systems Sea Giraffe AMB radar for air surveillance. Stealth is key: the ship's flat, angled surfaces and "GHOST" technology minimize all detectable signatures, making it nearly invisible on radar.
With a lightweight carbon-fiber structure, the corvette achieves impressive speed and maneuverability, powered by combined diesel and gas turbines, reaching over 35 knots. This blend of firepower, stealth, and speed positions the Visby-class as a pivotal force in modern naval warfare.

The Swedish Navy is a force to be rekoned with. Thier patrol boats, Corvettes and non- nuclear Subs are specifically built to win in battle.
Luleå-class corvette is the next generation of corvette first ships we will be in service 2030
Tack Tony. LHF❤
Du är den första som jag ser nämner denna info. Glöm ej en svensk Tiger... 😉
@@maxcore5815svensk tiger??
@@maxcore5815Saab annonserade det för drygt ett år sedan
@alle8956 word play, means a Swede is a tiger or a Swede is silent (as in doesnt talk about defence, the enemy might be listening after all). Its heavily implyed that a Swede is both.
Stealth Corvette
"Gun" means that it aims and fires directly on targets in view. The opposite is "howitzer" that provides indirect fire where a specific area is targetet through calculated trajectories.
Yumpin yimminy! Dos Svedes are smart! Seriously, Swedish military expertise is world class, whether sea, air or land. Think SAAB Gripen fighter jets and the CV90 IFV (infantry fighting vehicle). These plus Sweden's VERY quiet lithium battery powered submarines make for extremely advanced weapons platforms. PLUS the Swedish military personnel are HIGHLY trained which itself is a "fierce multiplier".
THe US Navy should contract Sweden to make these corvettes for our Pacific fleet, where this stealth would be invaluable. LORDY! A carbon fiber hull - the F-1 of warships.
Hope we can get peace again
It is named "sea giraffe" because it is a marine version of the GIraffe land based system, normally mounted on a telescopic mast.
technicaly that is a cannon, its an auto cannon.
Sweden has always done more with less and punchen way above its weight.
I love the joke about the check engine light!
Smaller Zumwalt
Bad a** Corvette/PT boat.
They have never been in battle so with that said looks good on paper like all western countries say that all their millitary equipment are the best...
Remein to bee seen
If you don't know, it's a war in europe. There are pretty much OLD western weapons doing a greate job.
Perhaps the NEW western weapons are better then the old ones.....
cannon is a generic name, a gun in artilary is a weapon that has a flat trajectory, most common were the ww2 flack guns.
What the Australian 🇦🇺 Arafura class Offshotre Patrol Vessel should have been. Rather than an unarmed pleasure craft.
'Place an order' 😄🇸🇪
Different mission objectives.
Australia needs long range endurance on their patrol vessels....not speed, firepower and stealth...thats what your Frigates and Destroyers provide...well except stealth.
Anyhow, Australia got some mighty fine surface combat ships, alot more powerful than anything Sweden has.
But i agree, the Visby is kicka**, especially for its particular role in the Baltic.
Cheers from Sweden, mate🇸🇪🍻🇦🇺
Ps. If you see that Raygun fella, tell her that she 👎at the Olympics.
@@uranusismightybig5111 yes but given our small fleet vs huge coastline and patrol zone, the firepower component might be nice. Cheers 🇦🇺🍻
@@Wedgetail96 oh i think you got more than enough of Crocodiles, Sharks and poisonous snakes and spiders in Australia to compensate for firepower😂....but i get your point, and agree.
To be fair tho, i do believe those patrol vessels are in part modular...in case of conflict electronics and basic weapons systems can be added.
And your fleet in general is evolving and growing...
Interesting to see if they go after a light/medium carrier after the nuclear subs...
Haha sorry i'll stop "talking" now.
Have a nice Sunday down under
Bofors is pronounced "Beau - Fors", not BOFF-ERS. FWI.
As a Swede with years of experience with the Swedish and foreign armed forces. I beg of you to stop blowing smoke regarding capabilities. I can not support and interpret it no more than bragging. You haven't got a clue what is going on. Read the history about the Swedish military, it's not like it was in the 70's and 80's. Everyone wants to brag how good, fit, large, dangerous and effective they are. The cutbacks on military spending have been severe for over three decades. You think that is going to chance over night?
The core problem for these ships is that now Sweden has joined HATO the only enemy they are likely to be going up against is the Russians, and that is a pretty little boat with fancy things on it but how long do you expect it to survive trying to stop the Russians accessing Kaliningrad or the Atlantic ocean?
The suggestion that the Visby has been supplied w/ RBS15 mk4 Gungnir ASMs is BS. There's been no such announcement. The upgrade was announced to great fanfare back in Farnborough 2018 and not a peep since.
The mk 2 version of the missile that you reference only has a range of 100 km not 200. The mk3 version is the one w/ 200 km range. It's been added to German and Polish ships, but no word on whether the Visby got them.
Just like with the coastal batteries - Sweden was supposed to skip the mk3 iteration and go directly to the mk4 version. But apparently Saab has its head up its you know what and hasn't gotten around to getting the upgraded missile operational. That's caused them to miss out on numerous tenders for ASM contracts - including for their neighbors in Finland who went with an Israeli missile instead.
The anti-air capability is also not operational. It's just something on the wish-list. Who knows when or if it'll be operational. Saab and announced deadlines don't mix well. Saab's A29 subs are a decade behind schedule and Gripen E isn't yet operational with the SwAF either. Don't know what's wrong w/ the Swedes and Saab. Very disappointing.
FMV procured RBS15 MK3 to replace all of the current MK2 variants. It was announced in December 2024...
@nTnz_ there was an announcement that the coastal batteries would get the mk3 iteration. I've seen nothing indicating that they'd be supplied to the Visby's as well - though it's possible that I missed an announcement. Regardless, it's an admission that the mk4 is way behind schedule and not coming soon. That's a problem, because the mk2/3 aren't air-launch capable - which is supposed to be corrected in the mk4 Gungnir iteration. Again - what's wrong over at Saab?
Gungnir is reel, ask yur friens in SVR
Visby? Must be IKEA.
Öhh ?
ZzZZs
In the sence that it is good value for money.
@@tremula1 sense* (just had to do it)
And all russ love it IKEA is everywhere
Worthless, has no airdefence.
It was suppose to have anti-air missiles from the start and will get that as part of the mid life upgrade. The 57mm gun is more than capable to shoot down incoming missiles against the ship itself though. It is after all an anti-air cannon and meant to do that. But it can't really protect other ships with it. It would not be easy to hit the ship itself with missiles for many different reasons.
It is also not meant to operate in the open sea but built to operate in the very island heavy Baltic sea protected by air and submarines in the shallow waters. Sweden alone have close to 15% of all the islands in the world... it is built for a specific purpose. ;)
Y are missinformed, see the video again or ask you friends in SVR
Does it take a Kh-22 well?
Just asking, How should the kh22 find and target the ship? Is'nt this kh22 made for target kindergardens and resident buildings. Korkskallaroch galna orcs
