I have never found a game with that variety in characters, movements and at the same time pretty damn well balanced (not only 98 but all franchise) that is why KOF is my fav fighting game of all times
actually, only KOF 98 and 97 are popular in China. 97 has too many defects and is not mature enough so pretty much only old players still hang on to it. 98 is the one that receives the most positive reviews. 94 to 96, 99, 2001, 2003, these have very few players.
Dakou's kyo is absolutely amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing !!!!!!!! Playing KOF is very exhausting, you always have to stay hydrated otherwise you can really die of it.
@@lawd.8354Dakou is really fancy and it is pleasing to the viewers so he is really popular despite of his many losses against Xiaohai whereas Xiaohai is also fancy but he is not that aggressive as Dakou so I guess that's where both of them differ.
My understanding is that way back when street fighter 2 came out thus necessitates a 6 button cabinet - arcades centre in HK oftens buy a motherboard only and retrofit them back into existing cabinets. Regardless of what jamma cable if may be - the top row of 3 buttons were always ABC this when retrofitting neogeo board onto existing 6 button cabs, thus the "logical" way back then was to retain the ABC on the top row and add the D button onto the bottom row - creating a different layout that was most popular in HK and in a certain extent, China due to the following reason. Bearing in mind that in the early days of arcades games, used cabs/board from HK were often shipped (smuggled) back to China (there were no other way the games could have enter China officially) by arcade owners in HK to regain some capital for new purchases - hence the same layout stuck.
To supplement my previous comment - as far as I can recall - never saw a proper official neogeo cabinet in HK before (the ones with memory cards) They were almost always retro fitted into existing cabinets
@@bassram3337 How is KOF XIII getting that criticism but not OG02/02UM/XIV? XIII is literally using the same system from 02 but with an additional meter that grants Special>Special Cancels/Super Cancels. And most KOFS before XIV are better animated.
@@HadesHatredEdge because 02/02UM don't have joggling combos aside from Angel's infinite combo in 02 and Whip's which are extremely tough to pull off under strict circumstances, also, combos in 2K2 depend on time, means you have very small windows to confirm your next chain, and there is no autoRun, so once you cancel to Max Mode you need to dash manually to catch up while the opponent is still stunned which is very hard with many characters. also combos from normals are hard because they are not buffered like later games. and you don't need long combos to deal huge damages.. you can go old school and you still can do considerable damage which makes grapplers very useful characters, later games, the heavy dependence on Max Mode made grapplers useless. and Max Mode in 2K2 is expensive. it takes two meters to cancel to Max Mode. so having 3 meters after cancelling into MAX, you will be lift with one meter..which you can use to cancel into super move if you still have Max meter.. and the whole thing will only do like 50% damage while you can deal the same amount of damage or even more if you combo with normals and command moves only using 1 meter. Yashiro's st.C f.A qcf.A+C qcf.C qcfx2.A can literally deal 60% damage. this balance in mechanics is not present in newer games
@@bassram3337 Characters in XIII/XIV still do a good amount of damage. In fact, in XIV and XIII high level players still use regular DMs for more damage. Regular combos still do good damage. Yeah, it's easier to do a BC activate in XIII/XIV but it's not some jugglefest. The biggest complaint I've seen about XIII is that people hate seeing Team $10 aka Mr. Karate/Classic Iori/Kim. And I do agree with how grapplers struggle with Max Mode later on. With so many grabs, they don't get much flexibility.

I was playing KOF 97 back when 1 GAME = 1 COIN. I think that for someone who plays so much during the day, the final step would be to study the CODE behind the game. And so to be able to create its own game, probably. If you really want to go to the roots of things! I still do sometimes play that old-school 2D-fighter on-line. The Web is amazing :)

Nah Sprite art is where this shines the most SFV attacks always look like they lack impact to me. And like Hilario Cesar says 2002 / UM is that sans the graphics and it's like the best FG ever.

Dakou usually don't miss chances to complete a combo. In this match, he missed his combos completion and lost the game. Dakou was not strong enough as he normally is, still a very good match between my two most favourite KOF players.
