The verse that sounds like a Christmas carol is actually a traditional lullaby song called "Illi Illi Tulog Anay".
The whole song and mv are paying homage to those parents working overseas just to be able to provide for their families. We often call them OFWs or Overseas Filipino Workers.
Since OFWs go to work for long periods of time, like years, the most common way for them to express their love to their children is to send money for their kid's birthday party.
Notice those boxes being ripped open at almost the end? Those are called "Balikbayan boxes". They're full of gifts that were carefully chosen and packed by OFWs. Those are often recieved by their loved ones around Chirstmas season. Christmas season (September to December) is the time when OFWs misses their family the most because Filipinos have always spend those holidays together with their family.
The song also greatly talks about how their children should be grateful for their parent/s sacrifices.
What fascinates me the most is that ALAMAT members sang and rapped using 6 Filipino languages. There are more than a hundred languages in the Philippines. It's uncommon to have that many local languages in one song. ALAMAT's music is definitely a game changer to the local music industry.
They delivered significant representation and deeply rooted culture of the Philippines 🥺👍💖

@@ikwakutau840 On a quick google search, the top featured snippet showed a DFA site used "dialects" instead of "languages". I was mistaken to think and not confirm the information just because it's an official government website. Some 2021 articles also used "dialects" instead of "languages".
Clearly, people can be mistaken about this since even the government hasn't updated this information on some of their websites.
In conclusion, thank you for informing me of the misinformation I shared ❤🙏

There's still a wide misconception when it is dialect or language.
Language is quite official but I take it as a Philippine Language, i.e. Ilocano.
Dialect for me is the variations of the Language for example Ilocos Ilocano, La Union Ilocano, Cagayan Ilocano, Benguet Ilocano etc...
Similar but have some terms that aren't the same and the intonations, texture, tone of how words are said are different from one another.
That's how I interpret it, it's how some elders passed on to me. 🤗

The story behind this song is the typical Filipino children and parents being separated while their parents were working abroad to earn a living. Their kids bearing so much pain and sacrifices while longing and missing their parent’s presence. They portray that money isn’t always what makes them happy but a complete family and togetherness. Thanks Purple Twins for your reaction videos to our PPOP. ❤

alamat is a very unusual ppop group as it has the very unique goal of making very insightful songs that touch on history, culture, social class and so many other things. this song, in particular, touches on the double-edged sword of parental love. as our country has so many striving to earn a living in foreign countries while their children stay behind in the philippines, the song shows the gamut of mixed emotions both children and parents feel. it's seriously poetic and very passionate about it's statement.

Tone and melody are distinctive in Philippine music. Each song has a deep meaning behind it. This song is about a child longing for the love and care of their parents. There are lots of cases in the Philippines where children are always left behind by their parents because they need to work abroad for a better future. Even on the most special occasions like birthdays and such, they can't attend because of their work and they are far from their loved ones. The gifts symbolize abstract things. It feels like they don't need any material things. They have received all they need is the love , care, and guidance of their parents. They include the song "Ili-Ili," the famous Filipino lullaby that is sung by Filipino mothers to their children. The lullaby symbolizes love and care that they long for. ❤️
    Hello, Church here your fan

A number of Alamat’s songs are social commentaries. ABKD is another song from them with a deeper meaning. So is “kasmala”, where one needs a background on what it’s about. IlyIly is about how families are broken because millions of Filipinos decide to work overseas. The visuals of the group are very Filipino. Also, fun fact, most, if not all, Alamat songs have at least two Philippine languages integrated in the song.

To think that you were able to pick up on the sad and serious tone of the song andV means that the overall production was super effective.

PPop or OPM doesn’t limit to those lyrics which is catchy only but mostly if deeper meaning. Not limited to promoting love song but also of love of family. As well as idols are not limited to 1 position but maximizing what else the members can be great of.

The concept of tne MV is about Filipino families being separated because their parents or loved ones has to leave them to work abroad. So that, they can provide and support their loved one back home. However, some of these children longed to have their parents near them that having the money, gifts in exchange of their absense. The MV speaks SOCIAL PROBLEM of OFW Families.

Hi! I rewatched your video reaction to our boys, Alamat. If you ever consider my suggestion to watch their recent ep which is called 'Dagundong' I would be grateful!😊
Their wardrobes are on point and to emphasize the clothes people wore during the occupation in the Philippines. I would love to see you have your reaction for their music videos later on. Thank youu!

Please react to their live performance of this song on the wish bus. You can really see their vocal prowess there. Their wish bus performance of their song 'Say U Love Me' is amazing as well. It's an RnB song so I think you might be interested in that.
