"To Try" in Spanish

  • To say “to try" in #Spanish is often very confusing for new Spanish language learners! The verbs intentar, tratar, probar, and procurar can all be used, however they don’t all carry the same meaning and can’t always be used interchangeably.
    - Intentar: This is used when we claim that we will attempt to do something or try to do something, with a clear goal in mind.
    - Tratar: Use this when someone is attempting to perform an activity or making an effort to do something. This includes attempts at curing ailments, which can be also translated into English as “to treat.”
    - Probar: This can be used in different contexts for trying something out, whether you’re trying out a new dish or trying on a new pair of pants.
    - Procurar: Use this verb when someone is trying to procure, obtain, or secure something.
